The kit is made up of very thin horizontal lines, it is not just a flat gradient.

There are not many good images of it but you can see them a bit in this image;

In the four seasons the Heart played they had stripes, sashes and quarters. They could go a charcoal kit with red and white detailing and it would still be a Heart kit in my book. The fact is well over three quarters of City's fanbase were there when they were the Heart, it would be stupid to ignore that side of the club.
