I'm sure there's at least two more Selwood boys coming through the ranks.

I am a teacher and I remember seeing Josh Fraser play football when he was in grade 6 in Mansfield.
I told him in my years of teaching he was the best primary school footballer I have seen and will play AFL. So you can imagine my cockiness when he was drafted number one. Anyway the friend I told said to me a few years back that there was a future champion from Bendigo (and my friend is a good judge) called Selwood. When the twins were drafted i asked if it was one of them he said no a younger one that is better.
So when I read this thread it made me think of the story. I think you are on the money.

Get a pen and paper and write down the name Brett Deledio, from Kyabram in country Victoria. Almost certain Top 3 pick next year, and absolute gun. Seen him first hand and compared with Goddard at the same age he is marginally better. Has some attributes that I've never seen in a 16 year old before. Seems like an arrogant prick though.

Mitchell Clark and Lance Franklin are two W.A. boys that will also feature prominently. Clark is a KPP who can take a great pack mark. Franklin is a tall Aborigine with amazing agility.

S.A. have a kid Angus Monfries - absolute ball-magnet. Played SANFL seniors this year at 15. Watch out for him. As well as a guy whose surname is Salter and another whose surname is Stribling.

Next year's draft will be exceptional. Expect a couple of Tasmanians to be high in the pecking order.

The reason I know all this? I was at the Under 16's Championships in Adelaide this year and saw these kids. They are the benchmark at this stage, but I'm sure there are a number of others who were too old for the Under 16's but too young to get drafted who will also be thereabouts.

SA boys for next year:

Angus Monfires: made league debut for the reigning premiers at 15, got plenty of the ball too

Josh Sampson: reserves at 16, highly skilled, hard at it

Cameron Wood: Kepler bradley like but with more skills and more pace

Scott Bricknell: bottom age player if not next year hgh in 2005, good utility

Toby Stribling: 16 year old from North Adelaide

Brad Sugars: unnown to many but already rated highly, starred in the college football competiton for Sacred Heart, could be another Mackie like pick

Yeh saw him playing for Calder (pretty sure) in Tac GF and Kevin Sheahan was talking him up big time.

Eddie Betts (Calder) - Lightening quick Aboriginal forward pocket. Has incredibly good ball handling skills, always hits the footy at pace. Small but should make it, AA this year.

Dale May (Calder) - Small onballer who has already played for Vic Metro

Jesse W Smith (Calder) - Son of Ross Smith, looks very classy already, key member of their premiership side.

Stefan Garrubba (Dandenong) - Silky onballer, yet another off the Caulfield Grammar production line. Definitely one to watch.

Travis Cloke (Eastern) - Brother of Jason and Cameron. Bigger, not as polished yet.

Fabian DeLuca (Eastern) - 202cm ruckman, raw but promising.

Chris Knights (Eastern) - Ball magnet, already played for Vic Metro, ultra impressive.

Adrian Tapscott (Eastern) - Laconic onballer, has good skills though.

Jarryd Roughead (Gippsland) - Had a very good under 16's carnival, has big wraps.

Brett Deledio (Murray) - This kid excites me. Won't turn 17 until April.

Marcus Drum (Murray) - Tall defender, doesn't turn 17 until May.

Chris Egan (Murray) - Very much in the Koops mould, needs to work on his discipline though.

Brendan Van Schaik (Murray) - 200cm ruckman who did his knee this year.

Nathan Anderson (North Ballarat) - KPP, ruckman.

Ryan Herring (North Ballarat) - KPP, already represented Vic Country.

Ryan Jackson (Northern) - Talented onballer.

Ryan Willits (Northern) - KPP, already played a few TAC games. Northern have about 10 others too, should have a good squad building up.

Nathan McLean (Northern Territory) - Has that touch of magic about him, youngest player at the 2003 carnival.

Richard Tambling (Northern Territory) - Already represented NT twice.

Ben Sharp (Oakleigh) - Smooth half-back flanker, very fluid and balanced.

Jesse Wells (Tasmania) - Ruckman who showed a little this year.

Brendan Tyquin (Western) - Raw tall who needs to work on his kicking.

There are many more of course, be interesting to see what happens in 12 months time.

GOALden, have you seen much of Travis Cloke? No doubt he's been over hyped like buggery to date but there are big wraps on him. What is his current height? I read an article in the H/S that I'm sure is wrong which said he was 200cm already and expected to reach 210cm. I think it should have been expected to reach 200cm. If he’s a 200 cm Cloke body he’ll create some havoc if he has anywhere near the ability he’s been reputed as having.

I want to have your therapists ATM card if T Cloke is a lemon.

You are obsessed.

Some people count sheep at night. I count Collingwood potential ruckmen. If I don't fall asleep I count the premierships we'll win if we ever get one in the near future.

In all seriousness I have heard good things from people who's opinions I respect. I have also heard and read some things I doubt are true - eg the H/S saying he's expected to get to 210 cm.

Anyway, reagrdless of his being a lesbian somehow, when he's a part of the Shaw/Cloke Collingwood premiership dynasty, don't say I didn't warn you. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to have wake up now....

I love you Mark, you crack me up.

Anyway, I think Travis is still a touch under Cam's height, but odds are good he'll add another couple of inches before he's 18 - 19, so that'll put him at about 6'6 - plenty of height for a ruckman.

Fair enough. Personally, I count Collingwood flags in the past 50 years. There is only so many times I say the word one before boredom makes me sleepy. I go to sleep happy though.

The Herald Sun have credible facts and insightful stories on a dart board. All are right in the middle bit that no uncordinated hack journo can hit.

Father Son selectsions are weird. We haven't had one yet, but Phil Krakoers kid Myles will be at North next year from what I have heard. While we are dreaming, I hear he is excactly like Phil but is 6'2 and runs like the wind.

I have Cloke listed as 195cm and 85kg, although he looked a bit heavier than that the one time I have seen him play (school game). He looked very awkward to me, particularly his kicking.

He has only played 1 game for the Ranges so far, get a much better idea of where he is at during 2004. But he should be tall enough to ruck if he grows another inch and works on his leap.

Controversy!!!!

Actually he attends Trinity and might not play TAC cup because he wants to study some smart persons subject at Melbourne Uni.

Fancy that - iIt's seriously genetic isn't it!

Plenty of tall kids look awkward though. Cameron has improved over the year in that regard.

You have had one, David Bourke, just happens that his dad played for another club:)
You got ross Smiths son training with the team ATM. Reasonable pedigree there

Jeremy Krojs from Western Jets U16'S plays a ruck-rover, CHF... this guy is a star in the making will see him in the national draft in 2005-2006 (Kouta like player)

Bourkey doesn't count as a father son at North (he shouldn't at Richmond either, but that is another issue entirely!!).

Jesse Smith (WTF Ross? Tough blokes don't name thier kid's after female poodles!!) is training with us, but will most likely be picked up next year. I don;t think he is 17 yet.
