I was referring to key forwards.

but yes, small forwards will definitely be high up on the wish list. We did want Kako apparently. But midfield depth was also important don't you think? For life after Viney, Oliver and Trac. I wanted Tauru at pick 6 though for life after Steven May.
Midfield class is what we were short on... Windsor, Lindsay and ??? should go a long way to sort this.

Been pretty happy with our draft strategy in recent years. From here though I would be investing way more into smalls forwards than key forwards with the way the games going. You look at the scoring power of Hawthorn, Brisbane and GWS. Only the Giants have a decent key forward and he's been injured.
Team defence systems make it really hard for tall-forwards to find any room.

The Saints had one of the best in the positions your referring to, without success. sMilne... And with Riewoldt in that side.

The Saints weren't good enough all over the ground. And didn't get there.
Hmm, I get the Saints didn't win a flag, but f* they should have won 2. I get our delivery isn't perfect, but you still need talent down there. Kozzy still inconsistent and playing a chunk of time up the ground now, Fritta has been poor for awhile and JVR still developing. The rest aren't even worth mentioning. No defenders are losing sleep over any of our forwards. Maybe Koz. Trac is our best forward.

shoulda coulda woulda.

They were very good, but simply batted to shallow, and lacked the disciplines, hardness, etc to push it over the line.

We have been in that basket as well, many time in past decades.

IMV a lot of it is in the vision some players possess. being able to go places others are afraid to go for.
the differeces say between lindsay (hypothetically) and Lever/Salem. some have it some don't
Fritta has been poor for awhile

and JVR still developing.

Huh, I was the one calling for him to be drafted with our 2nd pick right thru the draft period, boys.

I wanted Jagga, then Lindsay and Berry.

Ok fair. you got me :) I didn't really like Lindsay until I saw him at the trainings. I wanted Tauru mostly, but that was more the earlier pick. Time will tell with all of them. Looks like a bumper crop.

This why i don't vote (It's actually because i don't follow the draft anymore and have no idea who to rate where. So apart from looking stupid later on, i'd look stupid anyway because i know nothing)

Me personally I just go by the vibe, my dog's name is Harvey so that was a big plus for that Langford guy, aesthetics is also very important. I don't want to cheer on some guy that looks like a donut.

I was concerned about Tauru, as I didn't see wheat all the hype was about.

Not so tall but a good leap. Good hands. Maybe an exceptional 3rd tall forward.
Or maybe a top smallish key defender.?

I was later on thinking maybe we should split our first pick, IF we miss Jagger...

I'll reserve my judgement on Langford as he's a big boy... who is just getting started, against bigger boys.
We have time for him, as both Tracca and Oli are in fine fettle... so far.

We still lack some class, imv. looking forward.

Of this lineup. I see issues, and the need to replace some players in the next 2 - 3 yrs.
Langdon, Fritsch, are both softish and weakish...a liability for future GF's.

We stole the show on gut running for our last flag. But were are not ahead of the pack now, if not behind about 7 or 8 sides.

The way I see it, we are short on another Windsor, Lindsay type runner. to replace Langer's, in not to distant future.
We need another 'Kid Ruck'. cough. Truly tho.

IF... we pickup young White, at end of year, He might add something to our key backs. Maybe a mobile skilled CHB type.?

I see we need another mobile 3rd (marking aerialist). One full of courage and effort.
And we need another nimble nippy small forward.

All this whist watching our Mays and Gawns aging.

We need someone who can launch themselves deep in our forward-line.
Tauru may have been this one, OR maybe not.?

BUT all said and done, we have to build on our kicking abilities... without sacrificing or contested hard work.

Yeah, SugarHealey was calling for Lindsay back in September. 🎓 He is officially your guy, not Dan's.
Of the running players I liked the look of Lindsay and Berry. Nice kicks with run and carry ability and vision. Berry imo, could be used ahead of the ball, or behind the ball as Qtr-back type. To set up plays, and run and carry.

No-one knows everything...
But depends on the vision you have for the style of footy we want to play.

Just a few years back was Richmonds run from the back-half, which won them silverware. They're small running players.
I liked they're style method.
It was a a bit alike the old Carlton style, with the mosquito fleet.

Now today's style is with Hawthorn. Again that running overlap game. This is what I like. BUT without losing the tenacious contest work.

This is why I was so persistent about Baker of Richmond last year... And the Berry.
