Coney Island Warriors (7-8-1; 7th) v West Coast Wonders (6-10; 11th)
Van Cortlandt Park
The Warriors hosted the Baghdad Bombers and started the game well, holding the Bombers to one goal while kicking three themselves. That was as good as it got for the Wazzas as the wheels fell off as they scored just one behind through their next two quarters en route to a 29-point loss. pantskyle had a huge day in the middle collecting 17 disposals, 12 tackles and two goals.
The Wonders had an outing they’d rather forget against Roys FFC, going scoreless in the third quarter and barely registering a whimper in a 62-point loss at home. It was hard to find a standout for thte Wonders last week but AnUltimateRessie picked up 16 touches and six tackles as the Wonders’ best player.
Losses to the Demons, Swamprats and Wonders last week locked in the Warriors’ finals berth so they will be playing for home field advantage in an elimination final. They will be looking to A Swallow to lead the way as he has all season, sitting third in the league for handballs and disposals through 16 rounds.
The Wonders have slipped to 11th but can play finals by beating the Warriors by more than the Swamprats and Demons win and the Royals losing. It’s an uphill battle but certainly not impossible for them. The Wonders don’t have any outstanding individual players but rank first as a team for kicks and hitouts and second for disposals, handballs, marks and Dream Team points.
