Separated by half a game, the Coney Island Warriors trek to the icy confines of Waverley Park to take on the East Side Hawks in a match that will either further congest the ladder or relegate the Warriors to battler status.
The Hawks leapt into 7th spot by coming from behind to defeat the Dragons FFC in round 7, whilst the Warriors went the other way, tumbling from 5th to 9th on the back of their second successive loss, a heart-stopping loss to the Baghdad Bombers. With new captainette Wooshette still to find her feet and recapture last season’s form, the Warriors need to win to keep in touch with the 8, but they come up against the surging Hawks who can charge into the top 4 with a win.
The Warriors have been shuffling their team, leaving out stars like Mobbs Medallist Freofalcon and Wooshette herself as they try to find a winning combination. Rookie Jazny has found her niche on the wing. At the Hawks, once Doctor Colossus realised that he couldn't rely on the same tired faces every season (unless you're the Roys) and went out shopping for rookies, they came to life
Key Matchups: Jazny v Mr Eagle – rookie winger v veteran Eagle-Hawk
Reginald Perrin v The Filth Wizard – former full-forward wistfully watches opposing spearhead dominate
Wooshette v sanity – as the Warriors’ slide continues..
Tip: The Warriors look too disjointed against the late-blooming Hawks. Hawks by 20 points
