I don't really want to sidetrack his thread into draft stuff, as I'd like it to be more about Matt the player.
I love the draft as well but we'd have close to 25 kids easily under 25 after this draft.
There's also a bit of a cap limit to how much elite talent you can have on the list long term...
i don't think people are disputing the fact that you can find genuine superstars with late round selections, it's just that they are sceptical of collingwood being able to correctly identify a talented player in our pick range.
Chad Warner (39); Tom Stewart (40); Josh Daicos (57)
Darcy Cameron (48); Willie Rioli (52); Jack Graham (53); JackPayne (54); Luke Ryan (66); Tyson Stengle (R6); Jack Henry (R16); Zach Guthrie (R33); Gyran Miers (57); Liam Baker (R18); Brody Mihocek (R22); Noah Answerth (55); Darcy Fort (65)...
With the benefit of sleeping on it.
Whatever. Who cares. It looks crap on paper but we clearly rated the kid and wanted to get him. We may not rate next year's draft, and from the looks of things a bunch of other clubs don't either. The F1 may not have been the epic bargaining chip that we...
Table update. It's been a while! Clues has moved from the 'possibly living' to the 'missing DOD' list. The rest are all moves from the 'possibly living' to the 'recently confirmed' lists (RIP).
Hopefully these notes give people the impetus to have another crack at some of these longer cold...
...first picks started in 2013
2013
Jordan Bourke, Isaac Conway, Jono Freeman
Harris Andrews (212 AFL games), Eric Hipwood (177), JackPayne (68), Jasper Fletcher (41) all premiership players.
Keidean Coleman (65), Shadow Brain (9), Bruce Reville (12) all still on the Lions 2025 list.
Ben...
If we don't think there is much between Harry/Alix/Jobe/Jack then it could be an option. I want Kayle, followed him since early last year, hope I'm wrong but like Souup said awhile back that he would like us to pick a couple of gun smalls, I don't think we are going to do that or my favourite...
interesting piece by mark mcgowan. the age.
"Capped contracts, draft concessions and pick purchasing: How AFL player movement could change
In the second of a two-part series on the direction of player movement in the AFL, we look at how Tasmania’s entry into the AFL could play out, as well as...

I think the knockers will love this draft (in five years time of course).
Its looking possible that for every pick taken by every club, there will be a fair chance a later pick will turn out to be a better player.
...Oscar Allen, Tim Kelly, Noah Balta, Liam Ryan, Sam Taylor, Bailey Fritsch and Tom McCartin.
After them Cahrlie Ballard, Worpol, JackPayne, Gryan Miers, Zerk-Thatcher, Dylan Moore, Lloyd Meek, Xerri, Switkowski, and Guelfi.
I think the front end looks a little better than that year and...
I forgot about Kiddy, such a good player. And perhaps Eric. Not too worried about the rest. Although the extra development resources is important in the growth of talls like Payne, Chol and Ryan. The afl needs to find 200cm athletes wherever they can.
And Eric Hipwood, Keidean Coleman, JackPayne, Jaspa Fletcher, Ben Keays, Mabior Chol, Bruce Reville and Samson Ryan.
I agree, but the AFL won't get off their butts and do it themselves.
Sydney took a MSD selection. Not sure if they had a spot free for that, or if there was an injured player put on the Inactive List. If the latter, then the MSD selection will use up a spot.

In raw numbers, it is an interesting exercise, and every year, you could adopt different strategies, but perhaps looking at who else was available after pick 12 and 14 might show different outcomes
Acres, Impey, Merrett, Barrass, Aliir, Laird
Lever, Steele, Miller, Maynard, Dale, Langdon...
Where the hell are 450 Rugby Union schools in QLD?
It’s primarily played in private schools, and there aren’t that many private schools in QLD.
I’ll be genuinely shocked if there are more Rugby Union players in QLD than Rugby League players.
...than AFL.
A kid like Kalyn Ponga was chased by AFL but settled on Rugby League, now with the Newcastle Knights on $1.4 million p/a
JackPayne had an athletics career, potentially an olympic discus thrower but the Academy got him to AFL.
Tommy Fullerton was really good at AFL at 16/17 years...
...genuinely have players taken in the 60s that play AFL footy. It reminds me heaps of 2017 with a bit less obvious front end but depth all the way through it. 2017 Dylan Moore, Zerk-Thatcher, Xerri,Switkowski, Guelfi and Meek all went outside pick 60. JackPayne and Gryan Miers went in the late...
...player.
There's been at least two cases where teams have straight up drafted their own academy player because they only had one live pick left, no bids had come, and they wanted to list the player and didn't think they'd get to the rookie draft (GWS with Lachlan Tiziani, Brisbane with Jack...
two teams just played off in a GF with lewis melican and jackpayne as key backs heck throw in sam frost many thought he was no good a few years back. Every team has a spot for a big back like phillips imo
denver on the other hand. Not to rub salt in as he just lost his job but how any team...
To my knowledge, still uncontracted with St Kilda. So depends whether they delist him.
A few defenders around... but we already have a glut of defenders. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if with Payne, Harris, Gardiner, Doedee, Lester all best 22 quality... one of them doesn't volunteer to...
