World Cup 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup (Round of 16) - On SBS

Yeah, perhaps that was a bit of a stretch, but we've all seen similar or even larger deflections not be called own goals. Just felt a bit like they can't even let us get credit for that.

World Cup 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup (Round of 16) - On SBS

Can't agree that the skill gap decided the game. I think the reputation and entrenched soccer culture factor had more impact on the result. They got two goals which were both greatly assisted by brain fade mistakes rather than skill errors by our players. Granted Messi's goal was a class...

World Cup 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup (Round of 16) - On SBS

The importance of a Goal Keeper's performance at the WCF level has been highlighted once again. And I think it is particularly important for 'outsider' teams like us. Mat Ryan played his role really well in our two victories but unfortunately made costly errors in our two losses. Ref was biased...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Of course, our defenders need to take some share of the blame, it is a team game after all. However, I find it difficult to understand why they are taking the lion's share of the blame, whilst Matt Ryan's continued poor performance at this level is overlooked and\or excused. Atkinson had to...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Do you honestly think a great keeper wouldn't do any better? The defence is nervous because there is zero faith that our GK will bail them out if they get beaten, which when you think about is the central job of a GK.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

I certainly agree the squad should have been different, and understand there are concerns over the back-up options, but still think they are worth a go. I don't think we would do a lot worse if we decided to just put a GK uniform on meth-addict experiencing a psychotic episode and plonked him...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Seriously? How low are our expectations for the GK, if we consider Ryan’s performances adequate? So to summarise: He doesn’t make many notable saves and his general positioning is so bad he typically doesn’t even get close to stopping the goals scored against us; he doesn’t seem inclined to...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

What are the chances we swap our GK for the next match? We have conceded 18 Goals in our 7 World Cup Finals matches with Mathew Ryan as Keeper. Losing 6 out of 7 and conceding an average of 2.57 goals a match. At this rate he is an outside chance to challenge the record for most goals...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Some interesting ideas. I think the talent scouts could also be a bit more proactive, perhaps target some of the physically gifted AFL and Basketball playing kids and try to entice some of them across to soccer.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

You are exhibiting a classic case of soccer\football supremacy derangement syndrome and effectively illustrating my point. You are essentially calling people stupid for watching AFL without justification, as if it is simply obvious. You attempt to undermine it only by ridiculing its salaries...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

This is perhaps a good example of why soccer is struggling in this country. Too many people involved in the game locally seem to hold a view that it should naturally be the number 1 sport in this country just because that is the situation in most other countries, no, Australia is an independent...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

😆 I appreciate they might not be world beaters, but watching us play three World Cup finals in a row with the same completely ineffectual keeper is beyond ridiculous.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

It’s very hard to believe the other keepers could be any worse than Ryan was today, and they have both been picked in the squad so they should have something going for them. At least it would send a signal that such a performance is completely unacceptable. If the back ups put in shocking...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

I think we have different definitions of ‘pretty good’. Perhaps 2018 wasn’t completely terrible but not exactly great either, and certainly not good enough to make him the National Keeper eternal. Don’t forget that he was diabolically bad in 2014.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

His previous World Cup finals performances would have been enough to end most international careers immediately. Now somehow they are a justification for keeping him in the side perpetually? When will it be time to give someone else a go?

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Hard to be far worse than a guy whose primary skill seems to be picking the ball out of the back of the net. If Redmayne isn’t up to it then play Vukovic. Matt Ryan provided us less than nothing today. Can’t believe the criticism levelled at others whilst he continuously seems to avoid scrutiny.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Can someone please tell me why Matt Ryan is captain or better yet why he is still in the team? He almost never makes good saves, rarely even makes mediocre saves, regularly looks nervous handling back passes, and his distribution is an absolute liability. He also personally set up France’s...
