Test Who will be in the next overseas Aussie Ashes test team?

If he was fit I'd be taking him to England. Good in English conditions and it suits his bowling.

    Next Generation

Not sure he even needs that.....the cupboard is bare.

Test Pick a likely Australian Test team for next summer's series against India

One of the issues that we have is that Marsh and Head are essentially the same type of player - a counter attacking middle order batter and a useful relief bowler. I agree Smith would be better at 5 - for him and to balance all the counter attackers but that creates a few problems (noting that...

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

No, it isn't - but we are not bunting a Test opener who averages 50 for Renshaw/Bancroft/Maddison/Harris.
  5. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Averages 50 in Test cricket and something like 56 as an opener. He's the most safe of any batter, considering what is offer to replace him.

Selfish Captain Woke Denies Carey A Century.

Hmm yes but does he bother you more than Smith? IDK if that's the answer but it seems to me that we have four slow starters in the top 4 (two of which are horribly out of form, one might retire anytime and the other is just finding his way), then three counter attackers (four if you count...

Great win. Amazing work from Carey, some people will have to find a new player and WA candidate to replace them now.

    Too much doubt

Hmm I have a Teams meeting in an hour with four Kiwis in Christchurch........

Importantly, by scoring quickly Carey has taken the second new ball out of the equation. It's a new ball wicket.

Very important innings for us - and for him.
  13. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Look at the most hated player on this board playing a critical innings for us.
  14. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

He's been a major factor in a number of wins for us, often on tricky pitches where nobody else can score. But in terrible form since the WC. The innings last night was better though, he knuckled down and played to the match situation.
  15. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

He hit that perfectly..... To point.
  16. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Never fear, the wise and calm at the crease Alex Carey is batting now.
  17. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Catching practice. At least he tried to knuckle down for a while.
  18. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

We could do a lot more - but we don't. But agree that this being a two Test series is not on us.
  19. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Well our board does suck in that regard, England and India do more than we do to play the lesser nations.
  20. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

That's what I read somewhere, not sure it is true - but it does make sense.
  21. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

As I understand it, this series we wanted three Tests, but NZ wanted two and the T20i's because of the WC coming up this year. I don't think they have lost money on this series looking at the crowds.

I knew someone was going to cop a champing in this thread.
  23. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

This is the problem. If Smith was moved down, say to 5, then Marsh goes out. I don't really have an issue with that other than Marsh deserves his spot atm. And whoever we bring in to open is NQR and we know it. Plus Uzzie could retire at any time.
  24. The 747

Welp that day didn't go so good....
  25. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

Reckon the Kiwis are missing a trick not having a short leg to Head. He's hit at least three catches to that spot.
  26. The 747

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

NZ have also bowled very well with the new ball today.
  27. The 747

Well Trav is playing semi sensibly today.

They didn't want a three Test series. We did.
