Coach Alastair Clarkson - NMFC Senior Coach - Coaching & Football Discussion

Could be a number of reasons. I am lost for answers myself. Here are some possibilities: a) Our assistants are substandard and aren't pulling their weight or aren't able to work well with Clarko b) The cultural problems within the club going back to Brad Scott exit and then the 2020 list purge...

Coach Alastair Clarkson - NMFC Senior Coach - Coaching & Football Discussion

I firmly believe that Caleb Daniel will end up a very good pick up for us. He may need time to settle down, or we will find a slightly different role for him, but the fact is he has all the things we are after. Experience (while still being good age), skill (despite the mistakes we are seeing...

There was the cluster that he has introduced and a number of other tactical bits and pieces. Not to mention the mental toughness required to win week in week out which most top teams have, which needs to be ingrained by the coach you would think.

Simmo would be ideal as a head of strategy or opposition analyst or midfield coach or stoppages coach or something along those lines

I can only assume he says different things to the media and behind closed doors would be ripping them to shreds. Who knows...

There is no VFL this week. What is the benefit of having him sit out a week?

The way we use the MSD, yeah, not a lot of point. But others have picked up absolute gems in it

Coach Alastair Clarkson - NMFC Senior Coach - Coaching & Football Discussion

Speaking of Ross, I remember a discussion about him a while back with Nick Dal Santo and others on Fox Footy, and the key takeaway from that was that some coaches coach effort, others just expect it and don't bother with it, focusing on other aspects of the game. Ross Lyon is one who coaches...

Player Watch #46: Robert Hansen Jnr - Extends to End 2025

I think he has some class with the ball in hand, but is extremely poor at winning 50/50 situations or anything resembling a hard ball. Can this be taught or will it come as his body matures? Not sure, but currently anything he can contribute with ball in hand is unfortunately wiped off with his...

If Xerri's hamstring will benefit from a week off, then he should be rested this week. Has been well below his best the last two weeks and we need to explore the options what can be done to get him back to his best.

I haven't read the thread yet, deliberately stayed away from Bigfooty and all footy media since leaving that debacle at 3/4 time. I don't want to comment on the game itself, as it's pretty obvious what most North supporters could say about it. But what has really pushed me over the edge was...

Definitely a massive game in our eyes. But if we were to win by 5 goals Kane Cornes would just say "North have beaten the injury depleted Swans. Proves nothing" ;)

Player Watch #29: Will Phillips [Part II] - Extends to End of 2025

Everybody keeps talking about his COVID year and glandular fever, but we are in the 2025 FFS. He has had two full preseasons since the glandular fever. He hasn't been tagging this season, I don't think. I think we just need to accept he is a limited player. He just doesn't have it.

Not sure how you can discuss delistings already. Harvey and Bergman can still get a game and string a few together. This time last year Hansen was gone. Now he is only a good month of footy away from a 2 year deal

Player Watch #2: Finn O’Sullivan - out vs the Swans with an illness

Bloody oath. Half back is one of the most crucial positions in modern footy. We have been trying to draft a few but instead use the position to blood young mids through it. That's fine, but we won't uncover a gun half back flanker this way. Ever. Goater is a perfect modern day half back...

Player Watch #38: Tristan Xerri - signed thru '29 - 2024 All Australian squad member - runner up '24 SBM

It's fair to say that our chances of winning the game rest on this. Not sure why we didn't recruit a mature ruck as a back up. I would have even been happy if we brought Tommy Campbell back into the club - he is a perfect backup ruckman who is happy to be stuck in the VFL until required. I...

Player Watch #35: Matt "The Swingman" Whitlock! - set to debut R4 vs Swans

May be able to slot into the Archer role (played by Tucker at the minute) but when Archer is back next week, it won't be required. Wouldn't have thought we can play Corr, Comben, Logue/Pink, Archer and Whitlock in the same backline

Was Harry asked about his own form? I would like to know what's going on. I know he's split with his girlfriend late last season or thereabouts. Wonder if the lifestyle change associated with that may have something to do with it. You wouldn't have thought so, given how professional he is
