Great to see McNamara Medallist Reilly Old try his luck in the GV at Seymour. Nagambie have quite a few of their young guns out on loan playing higher level footy at the moment. Look out for when they all return with a couple of mates each and a wealth of experience.
So of the historic...
Had a quick look at the previous fixtures. To be honest we've been more interested in which clubs we host as that makes a huge difference to the financial position across the year. It's great when clubs are up and about as crowds come to watch. Our gates are huge when we host Shepp East...
The SDJFL 11/13/15 arrangement went completely against the Junior Review. I still have no idea why it was allowed to pass. This decision is what doomed the GV U16s to fail, also the Wang Junior League not releasing Benalla and Mansfield to compete.
That's one way of looking at the fixture.
Clubs are able to put in requests and many do. I know that Girgarre and Lancaster have requested to play each other early as its such a big gate for the home club.
For Murch-Toolamba hosting clubs like Shepp East and Nagambie has proven to be great...
Back to Mooroopna, Young Scoob came out for a top age year of 3rds with Sleethy. Then impressed and got a Senior gig.
Good to see him back in the GV to challenge himself at a higher level. He’d be turning 20 this year.
The Shepparton region also just lost their version of magic hands, in Harry Brittain. Reading through the thread above sounds like these guys attended the same school of massage and manipulation.
We used to joke whether we we cured or if the nerve endings were just fried due to having tendons...
I stumbled upon this page that gives a recent history of Senior ladder positions in the KDL. It's interesting reading to see the spread of finalist and how the league has evolved over time.

Tatura in the GVL used to use the same tactic and with a very good strike rate. It appears too hard to manage now with player points requiring steadiness of lists to be able to bring in high calibre players.
Not suggesting that the KDL would ever aspire to be the pinnacle.
I do however like the idea that you can be actively involved as a player of either football or netball from 9 years old until 49 years old if you wanted to push for that long. Forming some strong connections with people from...
What can be done to improve the standing of the KDL? We've got some great little clubs doing some solid work at present. I do wonder what can be done to improve the reputation of the league.
The times of doing both sports has passed for many. Pre-seasons starting after Australia Day were the norm 20 years ago. I am not sure who thought it would be advantageous to start training in November and December. It makes it a really long season.
I remember thinking of the likes of Sam...
This is how it should be, great young district players progress up to the GV ranks. They'll do well and then return home in a few years with a few mates.
Not necessarily, but they probably should, the GV has two Bombers (Echuca & Kyabram) at the moment.
Bendigo has two Bulldogs (Golden Square & Gisborne) and two Magpies (Maryborough & Castlemaine, Moama woud make a third!). Even the KDL has 2 'Lions' with Undera and Stanhope, then Violet Town...
I reckon the All Blacks would be better off in the KDL, they'd then be able to field their own junior teams again with their Senior club. At present many Benalla juniors are choosing to head to Violet Town for that opportunity.
In essence a community works together to buy an annual source of entertainment. This entertainment provides a valuable way of connecting with not only their own community but with neighbouring communities. The community involvement is paramount and does indeed keep the town alive.
In recent...
I see Avenel have announced a few Nagambie U18 premiership players recently. I presume these boys are former Tabilk juniors and will be one pointers for the Swans.
It's been a few years now that Avenel haven't had U18s. Will they be following suit and joining the U15 ranks with Nagambie?
That’s another part of successfully navigating the player points system.
Not only how a club can stay under the points through retaining recruits for a number of seasons, but also keeping track of former players that are one pointers so that when the time is right they can return to the club.
Group of guys that we signed at Murch-Tool during covid. Sadly, due to the circumstances we didn’t get many games from them.
Great fellas and should get VT back into calculations.
It would give Echuca-Moama representation across 3 leagues: GV, Murray and Bendigo.
Plenty of choice for the area, plus the outlying clubs in the KDL, PDL, LVL and HDL.
Great post mate.
I know that I have been one to judge players like yourself for changing clubs so regularly… and yes, I judged you on this also.
As we get older we realise that we all love the same game, and as much as we ‘hate’ the opposition, we do get to make life long connections.
