Most talented hawk of all time (not best or most decorated pure talent)

Can't say I saw them all play, but Cyril's ability to weigh up a situation and make snap decisions that enable him to win a contest (mark the ball / dodge a tackle / secure possession for a team-mate) is unmatched from what I've seen. Not even close. That being said, I've never seen a player...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

I know it was reported early on that it was WCE choice as to whether it was our F1 / F2 or Carlton's they took, but maybe as talks progressed, we took that choice away and specified ours as part of the deal machinations. Even if Barrass is only at the hawks for a good time and not a long time...

Preview 2024 Semi Final : Port v Hawks, AO 7:10pm Friday 13th Sept

Just noticed the date of our game will be Friday the 13th. I am super confident we get the job done... finals, Moore's 100th, Punky's 300th, we'll be on. I expect Port to be fired up and play far better than last week, but the only way they win is if they put our midfield to the sword, which I...

Preview 2024 Semi Final : Port v Hawks, AO 7:10pm Friday 13th Sept

Really disappointed about the Frosty news. Others posters like SYL have captured the situation well imo. Despite some the vfl reviews on easy, he looked assured in his AFL debut and I find it incredibly convenient, almost fateful that our next opponent and venue are the same. Pretty sure billy...

Oppo Camp 2024 Finals Discussion (other games)

Just finished watching the last quarter. That Heeney mark was bloody fantastic - the follow-up goal minutes later was also slick - loved watching the reactions of Heeney & the coaches box. Either result was going to present a tough challenge for us. I find Warner so unpredictable, makes him...

Game Day 2024 Elimination Final: Hawks v Dogs 7:40pm. @ MCG

The boys are trying to bring Chol into it.. Ideally we'd have a Chol get over his "first final" nerves this game rather than carry it into next week.

Game Day 2024 Elimination Final: Hawks v Dogs 7:40pm. @ MCG

Gee our cooler heads have been critical for us - Sicdog top of the list with Croc and Ginni both terrific. Our tall fwds seem to be getting in each others way which is annoying. Hoping Weddle can settle into the game a bit more.

Oppo Camp 2024 Finals Discussion (other games)

I wish that was the case, but i imagine they'll come out pretty fired up. I'm quoting ancient history here, but the Bombers absolutely monstered the 'roos in the 2000 QF (100+pts), who we subsequently lost to the following week.... come to think of it, pretty sure the 'roos got monstered by...

Oppo Camp 2024 Finals Discussion (other games)

Typical Port isn't it? They've been losing finals like this since Choco Williams was coaching them back in 2001 (we all know what happened the following week in the SF!) and despite a new coach and playing group, they're doing the same thing 20 years later.

Preview 2024 Second Elimination Final: Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn, 6 September 2024, 7.40pm @ MCG

If CJ was good to go, i imagined he would come in. From the match reports earlier in the year, CJ chopped in the VFL during his managed minutes and rightly came up. Based on yesterday's consensus reports, he is not coming up. Ward has better disposal than Finn, but is by no means an elite...

Preview 2024 Second Elimination Final: Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn, 6 September 2024, 7.40pm @ MCG

Forget ladder positions, given the form of both teams, this is match of the round isn't it!? Do we see the Caleb Daniel vs Watson match-up? Surely Jones goes to Chol, Dale runs off Gunners and Lobb tries to nullify Dear's aerial prowess with sheer height. Not sure what O'Donnell does, unless...

No Oppo Supporters General AFL discussion and other club news

Personally I'd rather not play the dogs first up so we can both progress beyond week 1 of finals. GWS would probably rate their chances vs the Swans. If we win the 6th vs 7th battle, do we play the loser of 1st v 4th or 2nd v 3rd ? Surely the AFL schedule our game against the dogs at the dome...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Massimo D’Ambrosio

Loving his work at the Hawks. He has a well-rounded game... willing to get back, can accumulate, reliable in front of goal, provides good run and has a laser left foot. The thing that impresses me most though, is his toughness. I wouldn't have picked him for being a tough bastard, but he has...

Autopsy Round 24: Hawks cull the Roos

What a win. I wasn't cognisant of the 170 pt scoreline in the WET until someone on here pointed it out. Massive. Definitely a statement win. I'm not a big fan of fwds mucking around I50, but for Chol, our leading goalkicker to give one away to Gunners like that was a really good reflection...

Autopsy Round 22, 2024: Hawks sink the Blues

What a performance. So many little things across the game to enjoy; Dimma cleaning up Walsh, the Sic sizzle kick to MD etc. The Weddle goal though.. that was a big moment for me. Felt like we broke them after that. Agree we left a few goals out there, but the Blues had almost zero scoring...

    Preview Round 23, 2024 : Hawks v Tigers, 3.20pm Sun 18th Aug, MCG

If CJ is fit he comes straight back in and Mackenzie goes out. I think the footy dept. has prepared somewhat for finals pretty well by rotating our back end; Gunners, Breust, Frenchy, Finn, Ward and now Morrison. My order of preference is: CJ > Morrison > Finn > Mackenzie > Ward.

Autopsy Round 20, 2024 : Hawks murder Crows

The AFL has reported on the Derby sanctions, but nothing on Michalanney or Nankervis as yet. We got a free-kick and a goal from the gut punch on Moore but would like to see the AFL apply a deterrent for how Watto was treated rather than just let it slide without mention. I've lauded Moore's...

Preview Round 21, 2024: GWS Giants v Hawthorn, Sun 4 August, 1.10pm AEST @ Manuka Oval

I am confident that Croc has the running power to go with Whitfield and challenge him the other way. Ditto Ginni and Moore. I like how Mitch has rotated the back end of our 22 so we have somewhat of a squad to pick from. I wasn't impressed with Ward's kicking on the weekend, but I do think...

    Preview Round 20, 2024: Adelaide Crows v Hawthorn, 28 July 2024, 4.10pm AEST @ Adelaide Oval

Don't see why we need to make changes to a team that won by 60+ points. Finn was good when he came on.. it's not a long flight to Adelaide, so no reason to rest Breust fresh off a 4 goal game. I think the weather conditions helped Sicily rack up 30+ on the weekend and it seems like he's still...

Toast Hawks made finals in 2024! - Hawks finals discussion

So ladder predictor aside... Who do we think are the best 8 teams?? For me, Swans, lions, Freo, Hawks, dogs, blues, giants, cats. After that, it's port, bombers, dees, gold coast & pies. I think we're a real good show to knock off the crows this week and the blues. Giants our biggest test...

Toast Hawks made finals in 2024! - Hawks finals discussion

In all likelihood, we miss finals, but the fact that we are playing in these games where a lot is at stake has great value, particularly as we're starting to stand up in them. We set ourselves for the game last year against the Pies, but that was more because it was one of our few opportunities...

    Preview Round 19, 2024: Hawthorn v Collingwood, 20 July 2024 (Sat), 4:35pm @MCG

This is shaping up to be a cracking game. From our side, I don't think we should go into a game intent on playing Sicily up fwd if he is injured.. it was a great move on the weekend as a spontaneous plan B, but i hope we only play him this weekend if his shoulder has continued to improve...

Autopsy Round 18, 2024 : Hawks sink the Dockers

Mmm I dunno man... I know that's the aim, but Freo appeared to mark our kick-ins routinely today and it rarely works in my opinion (i gots no stats). To my eyes, we are consistently outmarked in those situations on a weekly basis - would like to see the stats if available. One of the reasons...

Autopsy Round 18, 2024 : Hawks sink the Dockers

I still think our kick-ins strategy is poor and hope we address it across the offseason. Today's game was a great battle, stoked we came out on top. Loved how Mitch kept throwing up different looks, with Weddle & Sicily up fwd, then in the ruck.
