Yeah very true I've seen a little of Ginbey and maybe could be ok. Chesser no idea whats happening there - seems to be lost of the wing and doesnt look like a natural position for him
...yet have the young players you can point at and say, that’s Yeo’s replacement, that’s Kelly’s replacement, that’s Sheed’s, Gaff’s, Redden’s, Hurn’s, Shuey, Naitanui, Cripps, McGovern’s replacements. And a few of those players have been retired for 6 and 18 months already.
That’s why they...
...its comparable to last year is what I meant.
Our defence should absolutely clean up, Larkey has been well held this year, even against much weaker backlines. Hurn was the Larkey matchup late last year and I expect TB to do an even better job. Hough is much better than last year. We will be fine
Our backline is significantly better, and our midfield is stronger with Flynn in there now. Hewett in his first few games and Sheed as our second mid was not a strong midfield, Yeo + Ginbey this year is at the very least comparable.
Forward line weaker, but their backline is significantly weaker...
...at home against them with this lineup:
Admittedly Barrass and Gov down back is a huge boon but we are really not lining up much different
- Hurn, Bazzo, Hunt. Long, Hewett, TK, Allen
+ Barra, Gov, Yeo (struggling), Ginbey, Flynn
Our midfield is probably worse. Forward line probably...
How did dumping senior players and just playing kids who might be up to it, work out for them.
Why are so many so adamant we follow the player management strategies of the only team worse than us?

If it was up to you, we’d be playing U/9’s just to see if they’re up to it.
People need to understand, our list is shockingly poor, anyone outside our 22 wouldn’t make the cut in some WAFL teams.
Before today our WAFL BOG was almost always a non-AFL listed player, either Ruscoe or Sparks...
...North Melbourne right? A team who's average age last week was 1 year and 8 months lower than our average age this week.
It's more like throwing a kid to the kittens than to the wolves.
I reckon if it was up to you we'd have Nic Nat, Shuey, Hurn and probably Schofield and McInnes still on the list
This is what I liked about Hurn, Duggan does it too, sometimes you just want to be tackled and make it look like you can't get it out.
Some players get the ball in D50 and fight like hell, get arms free and then get pinged HTB. It's not always the best option to give off a handball under huge...
...a positive look on things.
Comparing this side to the one that went down by 8 points to the same team last year, we have:
OUT: O'Neill, Bazzo, Hurn, Hewett, Allen, Long, Hunt, J. Williams, Shuey
IN: H. Reid, H. Edwards, Cole, Kelly, Waterman, Jones, Ryan, Flynn, Yeo
Much better lineup this...
...kicked 5's 6's and a 9 on multiple occasions.
You say our delivery was rubbish last year compared to this year but last year we had Shuey and Hurn in the side and career best years out of Witherden, Hunt and Kelly. We've replaced that with Yeo, who's basically a long bomb to the square guy...
There's always a bit of hit and miss in the draft. Luck does play a part.
Injuries.
Morabito for one could (and probably would) have been a star without injury. I'd have drafted him in an instant if he'd been available.
How many guys have lost their career before it really started. Brad...
...The average difference in games played between pick 15 and pick 40 is like 25 games.
To be fair cox was 20 years ago and darling slid because he rooted too hard haha. Pick 13 for hurns position is pretty high.
Our top three games record holders are Hurn pick 13, Cox rookie draft and Darling pick 26, so by your logic the whole draft system is basically a blind throw at a dartboard.
The “old guard” I was referring to was more Kennedy, Natanui, Hurn, Redden and Schofield.
West Coast thought they could squeeze 1 more flag out of the group.
They were wrong & Kelly came into a side falling over the cliff.
Having no young talent enter the club for 2 years delayed the required...
...in and intercept marking where he gets to decide how the body contact goes, not the opposition. Wouldn't mind trialling him down back in the WAFL for a game or two, we're ok on tall forwards at AFL level so it's the area we probably have most room to experiment in. Could be a Hurn replacement
I certainly wouldn’t call it a “very good” season but it’s definitely better than last season and his form over the last few weeks has probably been the peak to date. There’s good arguments (such as yours) to keep Witho (and Rotham), but I don’t have either of them in our best 22 when everyone...
Witho has put together a very good season, particularly the last month. Rotham goes before him. I though he was on the chopping block at seasons start but he is proving to be a very valuable part of the back 6 with his organisation down there. Fill some of the Hurn void.
Yeah I obviously heard and read all the hype and watched the highlights but his disposal wad never really mentioned as a strength (could be wrong) I didn't expect it to be so good. His pinpoint pass to Cripps on the weekend as an example. Rarely wastes it at all
I have a memory of him touching on this briefly many episodes ago.
Jake Waterman was one, Matty Allen was another. Apparently Nicoski and Hurn had a real good go at each other one pre season fwiw.
...Speaking of his disposal, the only other Eagle I've seen who can weight his kicks to his teammate's advantage as well as Reid is Shannon Hurn. While Hurn did it over 60 meters, Reid's kicks, though shorter, consistently put his teammates in advantageous positions. After just 9 games, it's...
