Gather Round is great - mighty Geelong Cats are 3-0. Make every week Gather Round!
Pies have won 10 in row at Adelaide Oval. It's really hard to lose there. Shows what a massive advantage the SA teams get playing 13 a year and home finals there.

This little stat highlights the Vic privilege in terms of not having to travel much.

‘EXTRAORDINARY’ STAT FOR YOUNG GIANT

When Giants youngster Harvey Thomas took to the field at Norwood Oval, he eclipsed Collingwood great [PLAYERCARD]Scott Pendlebury[/PLAYERCARD] in a stunning stat. Fox Footy’s Dwayne Russell revealed Thomas’ 2025 debut match (23rd career game) was held at his 12th different AFL venue.

That number is more than two-time Magpies premiership winner Pendlebury has ventured to in his entire 408-game career.

“Harvey Thomas has played at more venues in 23 games than [PLAYERCARD]Scott Pendlebury[/PLAYERCARD]’s entire career,” Russell shared. “Can you believe that?”

Fellow commentators Alastair Lynch and [PLAYERCARD]Mark Ricciuto[/PLAYERCARD] were shocked by the stat. “That is an extraordinary stat,” Lynch said. “That’s a hornet’s nest you’re touching there,” he added laughing.

Ricciuto said that fact would be “getting the Collingwood fans angry” but again highlights the fixturing of Victorian teams versus an interstate outfit.

Pendlebury's played over 300 of his games at the MCG, from memory. Incredible.

This is such rubbish. All that matters is if you have an advantage or a disadvantage, not "how many different venues you play at"

Port and the Crows get the privilege of an extra home game given to them because some idiot decided Gather Round was a good idea (spoiler alert, it's a dumb idea)

Most of the games Victorian teams play are neutral games with zero advantage for home games. It's a total false narrative, and, quite frankly, a steaming pile of crap

DEFINITIONS
Advantage games:
Games where you host a travelling opponent, or in the case of Geelong playing a Victorian team (or any team) at Kardinia Park.

Neutral games: Games between Victorian clubs at the MCG or Marvel, and the derbies and showdowns in Perth and Adelaide played at shared home grounds

Disadvantage games: Games where you travel on a plane to an opponents home state, or in the case of Geelong where Victorian teams travel to Kardinia Park. GWS playing at SCG, Swans playing at Engie, Gold Coast playing at Gabba, and the Lions playing at People's First Stadium.

Comparing your club with mine this year.

Fremantle:
11 advantage games
3 neutral games
9 disadvantage games
PLUS 2 net advantage (11 minus 9)

Essendon

5 advantage games
12 neutral games
6 disadvantage games
MINUS 1 net disadvantage (5 minus 6)

Port Adelaide

11 advantage games
2 neutral games
10 disadvantage games
PLUS 1 advantage (11 minus 10)

You are not victims. You are just a bunch of biased sooks.

Does 1 team now mean the other 9 Vic teams are advantaged?
We just played in SA 3 of the 1st 5 weeks, travel to Tasie, NT, and every other state
We haven't hosted GWS at Marvel since rnd5 2019!!! Our finals are played at a venue that isn't our home ground

The Giants playing Collingwood in Sydney instead of Canberra is evidence of Pendlebury and Co not travelling much and Vicbias? Are people really this dumb? Pies playing Giants in Canberra and adding a venue to his tally would be an advantage to the Pies because it means the Giants also have to travel, and to a venue where the Pies would have more supporters.

Earlier in the year one of the bloKes in the SA footy media was going berserk about playing the Dogs in Ballarat. For once his co-worker didn't just agree with him and said would'nt you prefer to play the Dogs in Ballarat rather than their home ground in Docklands? The berserker kept going berserk. The sane one said - why don't Port get the same advantage then by playing a couple of home games in Mt Barker. The berserker responded with: Why would they give up their home ground advantage and play at Mt Barker? ...

No it's not.

You have to look NET advantage.

If you travel 9 times, but host a team who travels to you 11 times, then you have a NET travel advantage.

Why does this even need to be explained? The false narrative about travel spewed by biased individuals is as sickening as it is ignorant.

It really isn't hard to do a quick search instead of just making up shit. Pendles has not played anywhere near 300 games at the G.

Considering he is playing his 20th season, and the MCG is his home ground, how many would be not incredible?

If he was an Eagle that would mean 19 completed seasons x12 H&A games = 228 games plus finals and already knocked over an extra couple in 20th season....so would expect him to be what up to 220-230 games at Optus/Subiaco

Guess what, Mundy played over 200 games of footy at Optus/Subiaco....is it really incredible that players who play 18-20 seasons play 200+ games at their home ground?

True, guess he's only played 257 games at the MCG, so over under 40 short of my estimate.

Okay so help me out based on those definitions

Kangaroos playing my sad lot the eagles atm in Bunbury at Hands Oval...thats a neutral game right ..not a home ground for both clubs ??...but because the kangas travelled its a disadvantage ??....is that right?

So when the eagles travel to Marvel to play Collingwood thats a neutral game for the pies because its not there home ground...or is it disadvantage to the eagles due to travel ??

confused

That has the worst take I've ever seen.

Marvel Stadium is used 45 times a season, is familiar for all Victorian clubs, and any Victorian club playing there hosting a travelling team has an obvious advantage due to crowd support and the fact their opponent has to get on a plane.

Playing at Bunbury, whilst both teams travel, to suggest that is not an obvious advantage to the Eagles would be showing intellectual dishonesty. The Eagles travel 175 km's, the Kangaroos 3,000 km's for a "home" game to a state where they have few supporters against a 95% Eagles crowd.

Not as simple as that. Some teams have to travel a lot more miles and more frequently than others.
