List Mgmt. 2025 AFL Draft

Any idea if the 9 x 17yo are from 2027 crop that they grab a year early like GWS/GC did or 2028 crop? Think they said its only ones born Jan-June of relevant year and a year out thats tough. One thing was interesting that they don't get pick 1 in their 1st draft so if things go real **** up for us we won't be affected like previously.

This explains the current plans around the Devils list build

Mini draft sounds like 2028 draft, which they have to trade them. Say we trade a surplus KPF he plays for Tassie and we pick the best of the 2028 guys in mini draft.

Sounds like tbey can pre list a bunch of 2027 draft in advance for themselves.

Reading that, we just have to load up this year and next. Throw everything we can at buying picks next year. We need a very good young core that is older than the Tassie crop. GC was a failure, GWS have been pretty good and they learned a bit, Tassie I think will nail it.

We've timed our rebuild perfectly taking into account last year's super draft as well.

Will purely depend on the talent crop of draftees.

Do they get Josh Toy, David Swallow, Sam Day or Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene, Adam Treloar etc.

The mini draft will be interesting. GWS cleaned up more picks while GC got ordinary players from them as you're picking a year early.

Really feels like we have set ourselves up so well for the next 5-8 years in one draft. We've got so many talls that we should have all positions covered so it's only mid-sized/smaller players we will need to top up with which shouldn't take as long to come good like some of the talls. Two more top 10 picks this year. Maybe a free agent or two the following years to replace a few of the older guys. A few teams are going to be in rough shape when Tassie come in and won't have access to the picks.

Spot on. We will have 9 or 10 1st rounders (depending how Armstrong projects) in 3 years before they even arrive lol.

It's the equivalent of our 2004-09 draft picks 🤣🤣

It would be fascinating to know our plans for all this.

I am sure where some clubs will try to avoid trading good players, or key players to Tassie, Richmond are likely to embrace it, and have already started this process well before now, collecting & compiling a list with a surplus of players in key areas of the ground - and key leadership prospects - to trade for some of these juicy picks they will have.

At present we have:

4 rucks(every chance one of those goes, even if it is 33yo Nank.)

15 key position players - clubs normally carry 11 or 12 max. Many of ours will be ready to step onto decent contracts for 2028.

3 other Tasmanians(apart from Nank) who are all likely to be right in the new team's wheelhouse - Banks & Mansell for leadership, and Campbell to excite the crowds.

+ by the time we can trade with them we should have a nice surplus of inside mids, Taranto, Hopper, McAuliffe, Smillie, Lalor/Hotton, + likely at least 2 more, possibly 3, over the next 2 drafts.

Blair and the club both have a history of being patient with our list building, happy to release a bird in the hand for 2 in the bush most of the time. We could end up with another big injection of high end 18yo talent over the 2027 & 2028 drafts, meaning top end talent from all of the 2021, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 drafts & a likely shopping cart full of free agents into the bargain. The other 17 existing clubs will not know what has hit them. Blair likes to be the house.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

It'll be annoying if we mature Tassie player s than they leave. But if they will pay overs for AFL quality mature Tasmanians then we are in the box seat for a great payday in return.

Depending on our list profile we might just have a maturing contending list, that loses some players but gains a few more A graders. Could be a long time on top if we get it right / are lucky.

The AFL will want Tassie born players in for the branding and image. If both Mansell and Banks have a couple of good years they will likely get us good compensation, let's face it, both of their positions are pretty easily replaceable. Nank would be at tail end of career if still playing so we wouldn't get anything but if he wants to be part of their team I'd be happy for him.

You forgot Seth Campbell

Hasn't he said he doesn't want to go back?

Don’t know, was just pointing out another taswegian on our list.

Honestly, think it’ll be hard for any to go back as they’ll spend the next 3 years with us near bottom of ladder, going to Tassie will just put you back at the start of that process (unless we turn Norf putrid and don’t look like getting off bottom of ladder) based on GC and GWS.

I lived vicariously through you blokes and blokettes on draft night last year because the Lions' picks were already a foregone conclusion, and I had a blast watching your team draft well and take advantage of North's utter incompetence 😂

The Lions are taking academy prospects again this year so I may as well follow Richmond for the draft again. It's nice to see an organisation that knows what it's doing.

I see there are two highly rated tall mids firming for the top 5, Riley Onley and Ollie Greeves. Is there still any need for a tall mid for you, since you already have Smillie?

I think our two biggest needs midfield-wise now are a defensive mid and an inside/outside mid with speed and skill.

Rodriguez and Duff-Tytler are the ones to watch for us.

I assume West Coast will want Rodriguez unless they finish above you/North or trade their pick for Warner. Hope you get him!
Last time we were certainties for the spoon/worst team since Fitzroy they managed to tank their way below us so wouldn't put it past them.

Fred does seem the best fit for us. Sharp probably the better fit for them if Harley stays, someone to do the dirty work and feed him.
