The issue isn't pure clearance numbers. Look at our contested possession differentials when he isnt around.

Pure Clearance stats aren't as important as post clearance CP. Without Darcy there to hoover up loose balls like he does our midfield was made to look really shabby against Norf and for a half vs Carlton.
We're shit in that with or without him.

What does any of that crap you just typed up have to do with you acting like we've beaten better teams without him when that's far from the truth since Melbourne and Gold Coast (who you can argue have more impressive wins compared to us with Cats, Dogs, Crows) are leagues better than the s**t we've beaten in the last 4 weeks.

And if Ridley didn't get subbed off against Port and we didn't choke against the Pies in the last qrt that completely changes things.
What have we achieved with him? Nothing more than we’re showing now. Port destroyed us in midfield and rebounded off many of his clearances

Your argument was pointing to our pure W/L record with him vs without him with no regard for any context of opponents.
Don't move the goal posts now.

That young midfield you are referring to got their asses handed to them against North Melbourne and for a half versus Carlton - two bottom 4 teams atm.
The key issue against North was the ball use inside 50 and having no key forward. McKay looked like Alex Rance because Weideman can’t take a contested mark.

Tell us you don't watch our game without telling us you dont watch our games.
If you couldn't tell that a pediatric midfield of Phillips, Wardlaw and Powell kicked the asses of the young midfield we threw out there (plus Merrett) then you can't be helped.

How many times can you change your argument before you run out anyway?

You think Parishs’ defensive efforts would have stopped them?
What part of my argument has changed? Run out? I don’t rate Parish as high as many on here?

Beat 16th, 11th, 14th and 3rd with Parish

Beat 12th, 18th, 17th and 15th without him.

So we beat s**t teams without him and beat a Top 4 premiership chance as well as a team in the mix for the 8 with him.
Plus Setterfield out last 4 and Shiel either missing or playing injured - it’s hard to assess impact of Parish missing when 2 other first choice midfielders are also out or not right.

Think it’s fair to say we played our best footy v. Dees and Pies when most or all of these guys were available. As good and Hobbs and Caldwell have been, think we are better with these guys playing.

In no way can i see us trying to trade him unless he wants out.

What I'm interested in seeing is how the midfield dynamic is once he returns and what it means for guys like Hobbs and Caldwell who have really stepped up over the last month.
I think it will be good.

? for me is where shiel fits in in all of this

I'm not saying it's the fault of Parish. I'm pointing out that much of the argument ITT about keeping him is because we apparently get destroyed in the clearances when he isn't there.
I thought absence was meant to make the heart go grow fonder? Instead I am reminded that football memory lasts three weeks.

Not sure how that makes their opinion invalid . Not like the club has a long record of making the right decisions. I have floated the trade idea personally as far as long term list discussion goes but my mail has always been he would be staying and the club had zero interest in trades. They just have to make sure they get the right blokes around him to allow him to do what he does best.

Definitely better when Setterfield is around.

Parish back to gun status this year in my book. Looked jaded;disinterested last year (like most of the list)

Carn man.

would rather his role was to be split by players who're either dangerous going forward or gun defensive runners. parish is not really either. amazing at accruing the ball. maybe one of the best i've seen. but not really sure that implicitly helps a side win games. perkins can get better at hunting the ball, stringer is never going run defensively (though he can blockade physically). are we going to drop stringer from the centre rotation? or teach him to work as a forward?

would much rather have a look at the midfield we saw on the weekend + setterfield than sink 800k-ish into and go back to parish getting epic stats every week while we are beaten around the ball.

do any recent premiers (or even grand finalists) have a player like him in their team?
