It is what it is, Not like we haven't been on the receiving end ourselves over the years.

Happens to a club that isn't us and everyone suddenly loses their ****ing minds.

Would I be pissed if it was us? Yes
Am I turning my nose up at four points? Hell no.
We had an incorrect free kick given to Max King last year in the goal square that resulted in the winning goal for St.Kilda.

I’d rather see games lost on non-calls instead of bad calls.

Exactly. Here is the push in the back from O'Brien on Witts 8 seconds before the Rankine situation for those who haven't seen it. Literally the same sequence of play and O'Brien gets away with a two handed push in the back that should've been a free kick to Witts and if the umpires had made the correct call there then we never get that Rankine situation playing out. Swings and roundabouts.

The throw in the goal square that wasn't paid was blatant and would have put us another goal in front

We at Richmond told you how good he was, glad he's fitting in so well. You guys look pretty sharp this year.
I was always a big fan and 1 of few happy to overpay for him.

Looks good so far! Adds something we’ve never really had before

After re-watching the game I have to say the game was even better than I thought when I watched from stands.

Great battle, both teams went after it, tried to move the ball fast, high pressure. Atrocious conditions with wet ball from sweat hence a lot ball bobbling up. AFL never ceases to amaze me. Why not to swap game times with Tigers vs Lions or even North vs Swans? Let's see how it will impact Crows in 5 days.

We did have Crows on back foot for most of the game despite they clearly got better of our midfield. Somehow our forward pressure, causing turnovers, good defensive positioning helped us to counter it. They did expose us several times. We were not able to put them away.

Ainsworth surprised me with some nice deliveries inside 50.

No doubt we got some favourable frees at the end. I still remember in the past we were automatically 2-3 goals down when going to Melbourne. Unfortunately, that's AFL. Professional umpires would help I guess.

IMO, Crows could be a serious challenger this year. Some excellent additions, midfield was excellent, potent forward line, a lot of talent.

A lot of learning for us from the game. We did not play those last 3-4 mins particularly well. Peatling smothering Humphrey kick with 1 min to go, lost key set up clearances.

Perfect start to season. Let's see if we can keep it consistent.

Nobody probably knows how serious is Buddarick injury?

BTW, I hated long waiting time for food. Crazy bad.

Only big downside was how we dropped off when witts came off for a rest, read got beaten by a machine no question read was trying but a bit of food for thought going longer into the season may pay to throw moyle in v teams with two rucks.

We also dropped our shape when Collins was off (part of the reason for sure he plays such a high % game time) and faded in the end of all 4 quarters.

But it was an intense, high pressure game so the latter is a bit understandable.

Xerri for North is a bit of a beast. I wouldn’t mind swapping in Ned Moyle for Read. The Ned and Jed show!

Can you stick this on the main board match day thread? Might shut up some of the whinging.

This is the biggest reaction to one of our wins in history… I love it.
If we were still a laughing stock when sides would send their reserves teams up to play us no-one would care less.
Now when it might mean the difference between making finals or not there's more melts than a Broadbeach cafe on a Sunday morning.
As for Adelaide-couldn't happen to a better team.
I still have nightmares about Scott Thompson running up and down the members wing unmarked picking up 51 disposals in 2011 and the whole Rankine thing.
Nasty little provincial town with bad water-and it comes out in their supporters

Looking at some stats.

Only WC and Melbourne had less possessions than us. But we gained the 3rd most metres of any team this round (only giants and Geelong had more)

Crows only took 4 contested marks. (While we stopped intercept marks (thank god)), it’s clearly obvious our defensive structure was quite there)

Per expected win% play that game 100 times and we win 83 of them.

Crows kicked 9.0.54 from defensive half transition of their 14 goals (only giants scored more)

While us 8.10.58 from our forward half majority from turnovers repeat entries (3rd highest for the round)

We were the Third youngest team from the round (only WA clubs younger)

BUT THAT ONE FREE!!!THAT ONE FREE!!OUT OF ALL THE FREES NOT GIVEN AND GIVEN AND THAT NEVER WERE!!!
THAT ONE FREE!!!!!!!!WE WERE ROBBED .THE AFL INSTRUCTED THE UMPIRES.AND THE MOON IS A GIANT SPACESHIP.

Keep on coming Crows fans with the comments(Or heck even some fans of other teams haha).

I love them! You would have thought we punched one of their players in the face and got away with it based on the backlash from people. We have never gotten any kind of calls since we started in the league, had to happen sometime. Fantastic win, 3-0 on the season!

Let people cry and be salty, hilarious to me. Its just a sport!

P.S. Thilthorpe is now my most hated player :)

I can't speak for all, but no one I've heard from is saying you guys weren't worthy of the win; they're melting against the appalling standard of umpiring that the AFL refuses (why??) to professionalise and to hold accountable, and which detracts from the spectacle of the contest. This has caught you guys in the cross-fire, I get that, but every team has been the victim of atrocious decisions and you'd benefit just as much from improvements in this area.

No need for insults, just to say I'm glad it turned out to be the great game we all hoped for, and the rematch should be a cracker

Appreciate the rational words.

I think alot of the sentiment comes from the implication that because the umpires (Alledgedly) got it wrong it somehow invalidates our performance.

My cardiologist would prefer if it was less of a cracker but looking forward to the return fixture at your house.

One could argue Rankine doesn't have control here, Collins isn't touching him St this point either.
I was literally right at the boundary facing him and the ball popped out/slipped out NOT as a result of Collins, he def didn't mark it but certainly you could argue Collins gave a free away

At the start of the year Dimma was talking about 'moments' in games that we did not handle well last year and how we needed to be better.

Did pretty well on the weekend overall but we still failed a couple of 'moments' in that last quarter where we should have had control of the ball into our 50 but instead fluffed it and the ball went straight back the other way with not enough pressure and they scored two goals. One of those was a good opportunity for us to score. Dimma mentioned those in his press conference.

Take better care of the ball in those moments and the match looks a lot different. We were in front and even scoring a point would have made it harder for them, plus taking more time out of the game. Given our midfield was beaten, very good result with lots of really useful stuff to work on and improve.

It looks and feels different this year.....
