After having a bye, the Hawks will be back in action with a Gather Round semi-final rematch against Port Adelaide in the last game of round 5. Will Hawthorn have James Worpel and Connor Macdonald available? If so, who loses their spot?

Preview discussion in here.

Cmac didn't have the greatest start to the year so you never know may have to return through the 2's.
Potentially Ginn to make way?

Ward has really impressed me with his inclusion, and it would be a shame for him to exit the side for Worpel.
Finn has an important role so not sure if he hangs on.

Good problems to have

I’ve given up on team selection. Sammy has proven his genius, I’ll back him whatever he does.

Cmac and Worp straight in.
No idea who goes out.
Love Punky but he clearly comes out for one, maybe Cmac gets a run in the VFL til the other out becomes obvious?

Wouldn't be against giving Ginni a spell in the 2s but I wouldn't blame the club for not messing with a winning team too much.

Some real selection headaches coming up.

All of Frenchy, Ward, Finn, Morrison and CJ are playing really well and have improved, it would be rough to drop any of them.

Going to get worse when Lewis and Dear come back too.

I reckon it is Breust & Gini making way. It shows how much strength of depth we have when players get dropped when not really deserving too.....just because we have better player coming back.

If we stay relatively fit, it is going to be a log jam once Scrim, Lewis and Dear return and we still need to find room for HH, Serong and Frost if they keeping putting in top performances.

Ginni to play and make a statement like he did against Collingwood.
I feel this.
I know players would never publicly admit it, but I recon more than a few of the boys has this game circled on the calendar when the fixture came out. We will be right up to this.

I can’t wait, heading up for this.

I think the boys are hurt by what happened last year and will use it as motivation to knock Port into the Stone Age.

God I hope so - I was fortunate enough to witness both games live at Adelaide Oval last year against these pr&cks with Port supporting mate & I am still suffering from PTSD from the one where we were up by 7 goals & lost so much so I am not comfortable when we are 5 goals up at 3/4 time any more

We owe them!

St Kilda beats Port well and old mate will tap out before we force their club's hand.
This is not what we want for mine. Better for them to have a win against the Saints as they have an inferiority complex and love having their backs to the wall.

Ginni has to play this one. He would have to extra motivation to stick it to Hinkley. Playing a team first role and his time will come.

Bruest out and if there is a second omission it’ll be harsh. Ward, Finn, Harry and CJ have all performed well and are usually among the guys still running hard in the final quarter, along with Moore.

Even though he played well last night, perhaps Gunston is the other out if both CMac and Worpel are back. Would be incredibly harsh and not advocating for it but it’d be a possibility.

Must send Nash to Butters. He’s their barometer in the midfield.

Personally, CMac should return via the VFL. Competition for spots is that tight at the moment:

Impey Barrass CJ
Sicily Battle Amon
Morrison Newk Massimo
Moore Gunston Ginni
Watson Chol Dimma
Meek Nash Day
Frenchie Ward Worpel Weddle
Sub: Finn (harsh but he’s the most versatile)

My concern is if they do there will be the usual "backs to the wall, us against the world, everybody against us" game. It happens time and again. It's the only way they seem to hit peak performance.

Nah, I've heard them admit it. They want to punish Ken more than anything else bar win a flag this year. At least some of them do, anyway

Croc in for Breust, that one is easy.
And harshly, Worpel in for Ward who is not doing anything wrong at the moment, but that’s just where we’re at - he’s bottom of the midfield pecking order.

Finn offers something unique and may need to go to Butters for periods.
And it’s not necessarily showing in his numbers but our best offensive patches in games are when Ginni gets involved in our chains. We need to persist for now.

It’ll be tougher when Scrimshaw needs to come back, because Gunston was his replacement but he needs to stay in.

Good. I want to smash them while their "backs to the wall" and see the look in Ken's eye when it happens

Then when you figure out who is in and who is out, there's the sub issue. For mine, Finn can't be the sub, as you are removing one of his weapons: his tank. Morrison is logical choice in one sense, because he can pick up the pace of the game in a flash, can play anywhere and is so reliable. But you also want his consistency for 4 quarters if possible. As others have said, all good problems to have.
