Review Bulldogs secure 6th place with a huge win against the Plastics.

Finally got home. Well the weather held off, but not the players. From the opening bounce we applied relentless pressure around the ground and put the game on to our terms.

Thought our ability to defend the wind was outstanding. As much as the fact we capitalised on the wind advantage ourselves.

I thought our delivery in the first quarter was pretty poor. Opting for long floaters inside 50 to crowded packs, when the wind was causing crazy hang time, and the Giants were playing a loose man in defence was the wrong game plan. Thankfully we moved to creating more space and faster ball use by hand to open up the forward line more in the next three quarters.

Every time the Giants pushed back, we pushed our foot down more and responded ourselves. Most impressed by the likes of Jones, Gallagher, Freijah, JOD to stand up in key moments today. Especially in the final quarter.

Proud of the team. But it gets much tougher from here. We have the hardest side of the draw in the finals. Play a red hot Hawks who have had our recent measure. Then either Port away who smashed us last time, or a Cats team that has found some form again. Then away in NSW.

The players and coaches will need to step it up another gear. The current team is playing with belief and intent. We won't give up without a good fight.

Ranked #1. Not bad for a coach who “doesn’t rate defence”

*Freo yet to play

There are many great things about our comeback this year, but knowing Cornes has to lie there at night knowing all of his hot takes about Bevo are imploding is high on the list.

And? Heaps of other Dogs players have insta, that did not play today. And none of them have posted a single thing about the game.

Why is Baz being singled out?

At least he attended an event yesterday in club colours and was at training recently. What players do or do not post is irrelevant to me really.

The regular pile on by people here, that is based on what people think he might do, and unverified info by ITKs. Is a bit ridiculous. Wouldn't blame him looking elsewhere.
Well he looks like a ****ing idiot so yeah

Interesting to note that Bev mentioned in his presser answering a question around Richards going into the midfield. He stated that Williams is another that could play inside.

Which is something a few of us have said in the past. Definitely think he could be a weapon in there if ever called upon.
Glad Bev has it in his mind at the very least.

Given our position on the ladder, we've been playing under finals like pressure for weeks now.

We're match hardened and well positioned for a huge tilt at the Premiership.

Go Dogs.
Unlike the Hawks….loss to GWS, Beat a cooked Blues, then the two worst teams in the league…hopefully they’ll be over confident

I can just see the pivot now “they have the greatest list of all time and should be undefeated”.

Great win, and a great shame that we couldn't secure top four in such an even season. That loss against Essendon was the killer, IMO. The others I can live with. But Essendon are our regular bunnies and are as vanilla a team as they come.

Anyway, onwards and upwards versus the Hawks!

Cant forgive the recent crows loss either

Jones' tackle was a single motion, no sling. The AFL want you to pin one arm, then if you don't drop it it's holding the ball. Surely Cadman is expected to drop the ball and protect his fall. Otherwise the AFL is just encouraging you to play for a free and put your head in danger.
That's what I was thinking.

The AFL have now called that the 'perfect' tackle that'll get you a htb free.

So the ball carrier has some responsibility.

I thought at the time anyhow that his head didn't even hit the ground. Shoulder first with some jarring.

We currently rank third for points conceded.

The two teams who have conceded fewer points than us are PA and Freo. As long as both teams score 60+, we'll end the H&A season ranked #1.

Just shows how good Pratt has been and that Grant was right to take the decision out of Bev’s hands and move on Bubba.

Our point against is a little bit deceptive. Deeper look into the stats this season suggests that it's not the defensive unit itself (while obviously good etc.) but the midfield with up the ground pressure, clearance wins, intercepts up the ground. Obviously backmen have some job but not entirely.

Opponents are actually getting an above league average shots per I50.

So proud of the boys for how they played today. Their pressure was absolutely relentless and overwhelmed GWS constantly. As it stands there is only one matchup in the finals that worries me, Port Adelaide in Adelaide is the one we want to avoid if possible. But if we can get them at the G in the big one I reckon we have their measure.

Our best football is the best of any team if you ask me (I know I’m biased but I think the stats actually back that up if you also ask Champion Data). We just need to be mentally in the right space and kick with an at least average degree of accuracy for goal or better and I think we can beat anyone anywhere.

This is probably the first time I can remember us going into a Finals series with this sort of profile and this sort of momentum. I know we are sixth but we actually play the other team with the most momentum in the first week. Hawthorn have been fantastic but I still think if we bring pressure like we did today we will have their measure as well. They will try to tag at least two of our mids and then hope that Meek beats English and they can use speed to beat us. English needs to break even at least and then Richards has to put pressure on so they have to think twice about tagging Bont or Treloar has to get loose. The forwards have to be on their game and kick straight when we have our chances.

We are in this Premiership right up to our eyeballs. Realistically should not fear anyone. A healthy team with so many players in best form. Even our younger players like Freijha, Gags, Jones etc are playing well. Strong defence led by Jones and Lobb and key forwards who all look dangerous and can mark anything.

C’mon Dogs this is our year!!

Great day! We are into the finals.

I just loved how we went about it today. Our pressure would have been over 200 for most of the game. Really good without the ball.

Bailey Dale was great as was Ed Richards. Really liked Gallagher?s game today and Freijah very good again.

Libba slogged his guts out. Good game.

Darcy again very good.

Bont doing Bont things I wonder if he gets 3 Brownlow votes?

A bit of a shame about Liam Jones. Will probably get a week.

Just great to be in September!

Shoutout to Bailey Williams, who played on the outer wing against the win and covered an absolute mountain of running and did smart play to control the game against the wind. Big impact with possession against the strongest wind of the day in the 1st with a lot of time wasting.
