Pick 66 for Young and nothing for Murphy. The AFL's latest "balancing" act by the AFL Arse Clowns

Moloney, Lynch and Young all got ranked equally. The different picks for compensation reflect the fact that the compensation picks are tied to ladder position, so they were all deemed to be worth a third round pick for compensation but each team's third round pick is at a different position of the third round. It should not be tied to ladder position. That is the main problem.
thanks for that clarification, makes sense of what has happened but still a rough deal for us, oh well move on wont get anywhere bitching. All the best to Clinton, he is a decent bloke who must have found it hard to move but he is now a Collingwood player and will get no favours or niceties once the ball is bounced in 2013

Wondering, if the Hawks knew they would get bugger all compo from the start, whether all they would have gone that little bit harder to retain him? Robin Hood Demetriou and all his brown nosers are a joke !!

I think they should of gone harder to retain him regardless. The consideration that we were handing a major rival a player that is in the mould of the type they are looking for... This should of had some bearing on the contract we offered.

Not surprising from the AFL. Young is worth a second rounder for mine, starting 22 player at a club which is performing well means he is obviously of some value, a third rounder is a bit of a slap in the face to be honest, especially when port get handed 2 second rounders for players who are no better than Youngy. Just another rushed implementation by the AFL, when will they learn.

This is my first post. Have been reading this forum for years but never had the urge to voice out my opinions. Until today ... because I am totally disappointed

Whilst I understand that many has justified his decision with the money offered by Collingwood, I still feel Clinton showed poor form. I still remember reading an article a few years back where he came out and said how grateful he was to Hawthorn for giving him the chance to play AFL etc

and now this compo pick of 66 ... that's really rubbing it in ...

So Cyril I posted in the other thread that is now closed. That we would get nothing for murphy as he was a unrestricted free agent and you told me to read this before you post next time. Well what pick did we get for murphy again.
It had nothing to do with the 'unrestricted' free agent part though.

It's this kind of corrupt tinkering that makes me question the time, money and emotion that I put into following the AFL.

To be honest I feel like jumping ship and giving up on it all together; I'm absolutely livid.

I think I a done too...........

That prick Vlad has to go......he F%#*@d up the game enough........he has to go.

Most of us feel like this, fact is we're not going anywhere. The comission know this and this is why they act how they do. :(

Im not a violent person but I'd happily punch AD in the throat if I bumped into him. If I saw Anderson, I'd punch myself in the throat and sue the little ambulance-chasing greaseball.

Beggers belief really. Youngy is easily worth a second rounder in compensation if Pearce and Chaplin do, and nothing for Murphy. It's a strange formula. This is why I am so frustrated Youngy left it so late to make his decision. We might as well have had a crack at some other free agents rather than settle for this rubbish. No wonder they waited until it was all done and dusted before making the decisions. Bewildering.

Oh well, let's move on and get the best player(s) in that we can. I think Gilham is still weighing up an offer from GWS so we might yet go another reasonable pick in the draft.

No.....actually, I think I am done.
This is the final straw

You guys got majorly screwed with this compensation. Out of interest, if you had have received a second round pick for Young (which would have been a reasonable outcome I'd say), what pick would it have been?

And why no compensation at all for Murphy?

Pick 30-35 for Young and 60-65 for Murphy would have been a reasonable outcome for the Hawks.

I've amended the thread title to suit.

This is just a balancing of the haves and have nots.

Top 8 team loses a player = they can deal with it. Bottom 8 side loses a player = lets give them a higher pick so that they are challenging a lot sooner.

It all adds up to the AFL once again trying to restrict the 'leaders' from getting too far ahead of the pack.

"Hey guys, let's compensate the bottom dwellers for losing players fairly so they don't fall too far off the pace, but the top teams can just suffer in their jocks......it'll be a laugh".

Meanwhile back in reality, Hawthorn lose two players for pick 66, while a skirt like Danyle Pearce delivers Port pick 30.

Get f*cked.

You've summed it up here incredibly well. AFL get f*cked we know what your doing here.

Why do I get the feeling that if Collingwood lost Wellingham through free agency, the same rules wouldn't apply? It's about keeping the competition "balanced" in more ways than one...

As much as I think Clinton Young is a unloyal talentless hack scurrying off like a rat to one of our competitors, it has me a bit worried. What does he know about the club that we don't? Why would he be leaving us now? It's not for more money, and not for more game time... I don't get it.

Any ideas?

Lynch and Moloney were playing in the seconds. Young was a starter in the second best team of the year.

Lynch never played seconds in 2012.

In any event, the compensation for Young is baffling. I think the problem is that it divided compensation into first/second/third round picks instead of a position that actually reflects the value of a player relative to others.
