The problem that has thrown it into disarray is ANZAC Eve. You can't have Richmond v Collingwood at Etihad.

I don't think we will play them as a home game until at least 2020 when ANZAC Day is back on a Friday.
ANZAC Day will be Saturday in 2020 ... Leap Year.

Also, in 2019 we'll play on a Wednesday night, so it should be the 1st game of the round, rather than the 2nd last. So the round before, we can play on a Thursday night, and then have 6 day break to ANZAC Eve, and then have an 8 day break an play on the next Friday night.

Of course, that's logical, and puts us in prime time spots, so we'll obviously have 9 day break to finish the round Wednesday night, and then a 4 day break to play the next Sunday ... and both games either side of ANZAC Eve will be Away games against Essendon.

Actuall that'd be awesome. Melbourne v Essendon on the Thurs, Richmond v Collingwood on the Fri.

Ideally it'll be:

Round 3: Essendon Friday night, Melbourne + Collingwood + Richmond saturday
Round 4: Collingwood v Melbourne Thursday night (Richmond Friday night, Essendon Saturday arvo)
Round 5: Richmond v Melbourne, Wednesday night (ANZAC Eve)
Round 6: Melbourne v Essendon, Thursday night (Collingwood v Richmond, Friday night)
Round 7: Melbourne/Essendon Friday night, everyone else Saturday

I think the unlikeliest part of this tho is a home game v Essendon

Never mind, we'll just play on Saturday and have a 4 day break to Anzac Eve ... good job AFL.

I'm looking forward to a decent standard game against Essendon, which we haven't had in yonks. The last two years both sides have been coming off the short ANZAC break so the skills have been hack standard, 2015/2016 we played their seconds/VFL blokes and somehow still lost, 2014 and 2012 were upset wins but not great footy for the most part, and 2013 was the disgrace of 148. 2011 our last decent hitout against them.
