Reddit Comments' Section, referring to the above SA GR female boom, also mention that the female GR growth is helping community clubs.

2. Female GR & elite comp. AF are progressing very strongly in SA- which bodes well, in the medium term, for Port's entry into the AFLW.

In a major shock in the NAB National Female U18 Championships just completed, SA has gone undefeated in its 3 matches.

"SA U18 Girls create history in 2022 AFLW National Championships • Glam Adelaide

The U18 Girls Team has created SA football history after remaining undefeated for the 2022 AFLW U18 National Championships".

SA defeated WA by 84 points, Vic Country by 92 points, & Vic Metro by 3 points.

Vic Metro was probably lucky to lose by only 3 points.

SANFL said
"Goals from two 50m penalties in the final term assisted Victoria Metro in its unlikely comeback, only to be continually thwarted by SA’s desperate defending in its back half".

It can be assumed that SA GR female snr & jnr club, & school, AF nos. will probably continue to boom in the next few years.

Very interesting that the grassroots Womens game is travelling better in Adelaide compared to Perth. The scoreline from the SA v WA match is probably indicitive of the state of play in each State.
Also they are U18`s not seniors so the lower levels organisation is much better it seems.

In SA's Eyre Peninsula & West Coast, for GR female AF comp. nos. (from an initial small base)
" Participation rates have grown a staggering 574 per cent between 2014 and 2019 in the region, and participation levels look set to continue to increase after the success of the inaugural Port Lincoln women's football competition earlier this year".

(Boston FC Captain)"Jemma Schilling says female players are obsessed with football on the Eyre Peninsula".

The Port Lincoln Womens League, started in 2022, had 5 women's teams (another 6th expected to join in 2023)- & the 2022 GF, won by Boston FC, attracted a crowd of 800.

"Port Lincoln Football League operations manager, Quinn Dutschke, said the league did not expect the popularity of the first season, but was already working to improve the experience for the players next season".

There are concerns, however, with the major lack of appropriate female facilities at most clubs.

"The only sport I've ever wanted to play is football, so for all of us to be able to play and play for the club we love is pretty special," Ms Miller says.
Re the Port Lincoln district women's teams, G. Johncock said

"I think the competition has been fantastic for the community. It's brought a lot of enthusiasm and excitement".

The Hostplus SANFL Women’s League continues to evolve, with the introduction of a salary cap planned for the 2025 season.

Significant advancements in South Australia’s premier women’s football competition have been a feature since its 2017 inception, prompting the next major milestone through player payments.

Following extensive consultation with SANFL clubs and approval from the SA Football Commission, a salary cap of $30,000 per club will be implemented for 2025 and will increase to $32,000 in 2026.

The 2024 Hostplus SANFLW League season, which kicks off on the first weekend in March, will also mark the first time the minor round will expand from 12 to 14 rounds, allowing each team to play each other twice before the finals series.

After an admission fee was introduced for the 2021 and 2022 SANFLW League finals series, it will be expanded to cover entry to the 2024 Hostplus SANFLW League minor round – $10 for adults and $5 for concession.

When a SANFLW game is played on the same day and venue as a Men’s game, the admission fee will be in line with existing fees for entry to Men’s games – $20 for adults and $12 for concession ($18 and $11 respectively if pre-purchased online).

Matching the Hostplus SANFL League, entry for children U18 will be free throughout the season.
