Just putting up his WAFL watch for easy reference, think he might surprise a few this year

Round 19
Peter Faulks (PT) 30 disposals (18 kicks, 12 handballs) 10 marks, 4 tacklesPeter really challenged Zac Clarke for the WAFL player of the round this week. He has had a very consistent season. He played key back and had 30 disposals, 12 spoils, seven ground balls and took 10 marks. Out of the 25 goals that West Perth kicked only one of those was kicked on Peter. That showed it was a dominant defensive display. He played on a mix of tall and smalls, and he was one of the better players on the ground in a team that was well beaten. Peter demonstrated great effort, his defensive positioning was very good and showed good attack on the ball and the contest.

Round 18
Peter Faulks (PT) 22 disposals (10 kicks, 12 handballs) 8 marks
Peter played key back where he controlled his opponents well and then had a defensive forward assigned to him to attempt to limit his rebound. His positioning, ability to win one on ones and win the ground ball were positives of his game. He showed great change of direction and attempted to play on often.

Round 17
Key defender Peter Faulks put in another strong defensive performance for Peel Thunder on the weekend, but it’s the offensive development of his game that’s really pleasing Fremantle says senior development coach Simon Lloyd.

Faulks was Freo’s WAFL Player of the Round after his 21 disposal, eight-mark effort in the Thunder’s upset win over Subiaco.

Lloyd said Faulks’ defensive positioning had been solid all season, but he was also becoming more damaging with the ball in hand.

“From an offensive point of view, Peter has really created an aspect of his game where he is trying to run hard on the rebound, characterised by some strong, long-running efforts,” he said.

“With his use, he has shown good penetration and accuracy, which is what we want to see from him.”

Lloyd shared his notes from all Fremantle defenders who played WAFL or Foxtel Cup on the weekend.

Peter Faulks (PT) 21 disposals (15 kicks, 6 handballs) 8 marks

Peter played in defence. He has had a number of solid performances at WAFL level over a period of time, and has been impressive both defensively and offensively. The way he is positioning at the moment is causing at lot of uncertainty for opposition ball carriers.

Round 16
Peter Faulks (PT) 22 disposals (9 kicks, 13 handballs) 5 marks, 4 tackles
Peter played key back in a team that was under a fair amount of pressure at different times. The big thing for Peter’s game is that he is positioning really well. He will release his opponent into congestion and run some really good defensive angles, which resulted in a lot of East Perth turn overs. Another angle to Pete’s game that he has been working on is his drive and attack. He did this on the day and gave a lot of run to receive when Peel won possession.

Round 14
Peter Faulks (PT) 16 disposals (8 kicks, 8 handballs) 5 marks
Peter played a really solid game in defense in Peel’s win over the Bulldogs. He played an aggressive game consistently over four quarters. He was only beaten in a couple of contests. Peter has really improved his defensive positioning and, when Peel won the football, he looked to really get used on the spread and was confident with the ball in his hand. It was a good game from Peter.

Round 13
Peter Faulks (PT) - 11 disposals (4 kicks, 7 handballs)
Peter played back on Tim Geapen, whom he has done well against in the past. On this day he found this challenging in a team that was under siege. He did put his head over some ground balls. Peter played one of his better games a couple of weeks ago, so he just needs to get back to that form this coming week against South Fremantle.

Round 11
FAULKS, Peter 21 possessions (15 kicks, 6 handballs) 10 marks
Peter played as a key defender and was solid in defence. He showed a strong work rate, particularly to run and spread to create outlets, and his kicking was also good. He was solid with his one-on-one spoiling, too. Peter’s having a solid patch of consistent football.

Round 10
Peter Faulks (P) - 8 disposals (2 kicks, 6 handballs)
Peter was very solid defensively and demonstrated a couple of great efforts in the second half through his one-on-one defending. His rebounding is also developing well. Peter is very solid defensively but we are just looking for him to constantly work on rebounding more when Peel win the football.

Round 9
Peter FAULKS (PT) - 11 disposals (3 kicks, 8 handballs), 5 marks
Peter played in a defence that came under a lot of pressure with the amount of inside-50 entries. He tried to play in front of his opponent and took five marks. The positives in Peter’s game were his effort and attack on the ball and he looked to provide some rebound out of the 50.

Round 5
Peter Faulks (PT) - 20 disposals (10 kicks, 10 handballs) 4 marks
Peter played key back all day and was excellent defensively. He gave a lot of rebound from defensive 50 and he dropped off his opponent when he needed to. His positioning was very good. He knew when to leave his opponent or come back to him. Peter is really building his consistency.

Peter Faulks’ weekly WAFL efforts are showing the improvements in his game that his coaches have been looking for from him.

The 23-year-old was Freo’s WAFL Player of the Week in round 5 of competition for his 20-possession performance from Peel Thunder’s defence.

Freo’s coaching staff have been working on the attacking side of Faulks’ game, and assistant Simon Lloyd said last weekend’s display was one of a number of good recent showings from the former Sydney Swan.

“We’ve always known that Peter’s been very good defensively, but there’s the part of the game when we win the footy,” he said.

“We want him to be attacking and get used as part of the rebound.

“That’s something that’s been a big change in mindset for Peter, but he’s got his head around it and we’re seeing it on the field.”

Lloyd said that, in today’s game of AFL, even key defenders had to have an offensive edge to their game.

“To be an AFL defender, it’s a part of Peter’s game he has to develop and he’s showing that he is developing it, which is great,” Lloyd said.

Lloyd said Faulks had come a long way in just over a year that he’s been at the club.

“In terms of conditioning, last year he was breaking down at different times and he’s now really durable,” he said.

“He’s gone from a defender who was all about defending his man, to defending his man but also working off his man to be an attacking influence as well.

“His game is growing and that’s a real positive.”

Round 4
Peter Faulks - (PT)- 20 disposals (5 kicks, 15 handballs) 4 marks
Peter played in defense and performed well. He showed good defensive positioning and is displaying some offensive drive. He was very good at one-on-one contests.

Round 3
Peter Faulks (Peel) - 17 disposals (10 kicks, 7 handballs) 7 marks
Peter played deep in defence to start and then played higher across the 50m line. His man-on-man contest work was very good. One of his focus areas from the previous week was checking his opponent and not getting turned inside out. He did that very well so we were very happy. His offensive transition was proactive and he took a number of strong marks for the day. Overall, it was an encouraging game from Peter.

Round 2
Peter Faulks (Peel) - 15 disposals (8 kicks, 7 handballs) 4 marks
Peter played on a variety of talls and mediums, spending the most time on ex-Port Melbourne player Callum Sinclair. In regards to his defensive efforts, he played a very strong game for three quarters, spoiling well. Late in the game he was involved in a number of opposition scoring chains, but he was covering for his teammates on several instances. A real positive for us was his involvement in counter-attacks in the second half. That’s something we’re working on, the attacking side of Peter’s game.
