MCDFL - 2011 PRE Season

It's sad to see what is happening with royal park. Any news on that proposed merger? Can only be good for footy in the central goldfields as a whole, in my opinion

Based on the (very generous) recent article in the Bendigo Advertiser, it would appear as though Royal Park may be willing to talk about the proposal for next season. While that should be good for the game in the region, you have to wonder if the combined resources of those clubs would still fill enough teams! What do all the people of Maryborough do on weekends?

Been very quiet on here what are the predictions for rd 10 and the rest of the season all of the top teams play each other at least twice before finals with maybe Newstead having the hardest run home.

Pretty good photo on the cover of yesterday's advocate! Very impressive, someone's got a handy camera and a good eye for a speccy!

Yep back on leave for sept.
Hope to see Carisbrook Reddies in their prelim final

Think it's Sat. week and this week's round of finals to sort out the other 2 prelim. final clus

I went along and saw the game yesterday, Princess Park was in very good nick for finals footy :thumbsu:

I got to see most of the reserves game and there was a bit of chaos at the end with the scoreboard. With only minutes left Trentham kicked a goal to bring the margin back to less than a goal. The match continued and the saints kicked a point and most of the crowd knew they were still losing except the people in the scorers box put it down as a goal and when the siren sounded the maldon players celebrated until they saw up on the board that it had trentham were up by 4 points. A bit of confusion occured for the next few minutes before the goal umpires came over to the box and changed the score to a 2 point win to Maldon.

In the seniors Navarre had a fairly comfortable win where they were in control for most of the day. They jumped out of the blocks real early with some quick goals and made it an uphill battle for Trentham for the rest of the day.
Speaking of going uphills, the tempo of the game was lost a little in the second quarter when a footy was kicked out on the full and it went over the hill and into the lake. After about 10 mins with the new ball it happened again :D
The hoppers backline was exceptional in the first half restricting the saints to only 2 goals to half time, running back in numbers and mopping up anything that went to ground and constantly having 2-3 players go back to outnumber Priest at the marking contest. I dont know what the stats were but Navarre had a massive amount of marks in the defensive 50.

To Trentham's credit they battled out the second half and won the last quarter which resulted in a respectable scoreline. A couple of times in the second half Trentham would look dangerous and work hard for the ball only to have a bit of lack of discipline (ill admit the umpires were a tad harsh on them but still) to swing the momentum back towards the Hoppers who made the most of it and hurt them on the scoreboard.

Overall it was a good days play and one of tough, physical finals footy in pretty good conditions :thumbsu: look forward to see how the next few weeks pan out.

Very good comments and a fair reflection of the day. Congratulations to Navarre, they obviously did their home work to shut down Trentham's playmakers, had a team plan and followed it and were the better team on the day. I must admit as a Trentham supporter that I was frustrated when the ball was lost in the lake three times while we were attacking. Not saying it would have made any difference to the result but it did interrupt our attacking flow. I also agree with the umpiring decisions being a bit rough and costly to the Saints, but thats footy and they usually even themselves out.
As far as the scoreboard goes it was a joke all day and is something that the League will have to look into before Grand Final Day.
To finish up congratulations to all the Trentham boys on a wonderful effort to achieve what you have this season and to Coach Dale Cowell thanks for the work you have put in and living up to your promise of changing the culture around the club from being easy beats two years ago to real contenders A terrific effort.
Good luck to all of the teams left in the Premiership race for this season and look forward to next years challenges with great anticipation

Trentham have appointed Assistant Coach Clayton Scobles to take over from Dale Cowell. The two have worked well together over the last year and Scobes is looking forward to finishing the job that Dale started two and a half years ago. We would like to thank Dale for his committment and the professionalism that he brought to the club. From easy beats to genuine contenders in such a short time is a great effort

Much news circling around the league in the off season? C'mon surely something is happening with comings and goings ;)
I saw on another thread that the Lawson bros have left Trentham which is a massive blow for them.

pretty much all of the Werribee recruits barring Justin Hoffman, who is staying, and the Lawson boys , who ve gone to Kyneton. Heath Hunter has landed his first coaching job at the newly formed Manor Lakes, and most of the Werribee crew have headed there to play. End of the day they will be missed ,but realistically with the travel some of these blokes do to train and play its understandable that they re heading closer to home.
Now the recruiting process fun.the plus is that there are a lot of local kids coming through from the juniors . Clayton Scoble senior coach this season any and all player s looking for a game are most welcome to come down for a look. promise there wont be any snow...............yet

Thats understandable with them playing closer to home.
How many of the 10-15 Werribee boys (No. quoted on other league forums) played senior football for Trentham in 2012 regularly?
Glad to see you guys will be promoting the kids :thumbsu: realistically what are the Saints goals for 2013? Finals footy?
Who is recruiting heavily at the moment or at least talking big in the MCDFL?
Who will be the big improvers to look out for in 2013?

there were about 20 werribee guys of which 15 were regular senior players . Tough thing is ,that when the bulk of your recruiting is from one area , when they move on ,its a fair few to replace. ..We have had a few come down for a look so far but no definate signings as yet. Realistically , unless we can recruit 10 to 15 senior players with experience, we will struggle. But in saying that we ve a good senior coach in Clayton Scoble and some handy kids that have played 15 -20 senior games that will give it a good crack, so its not all doom and gloom.
Who knows, maybe after Christmas we ll have a mad rush of players wanting to play at Trenm.

:thumbsu: not sure of details but u/stand regional hub in charge of mcdfl has given bushy park certain performance indicators
If they can't match these and live up to the hub's set standards things will be bleak for royal park

Your right King Rich.... Let's try and get it going a bit.

TEAM SET TO IMPROVE- HARCOURT- DAN SMITH is a Premiership Coach at the Club and while the Lions have some big ground to make up on the Premiership contenders expect them to jump back in the finals fold at the least.

ON THE SLIDE- MALDON & LEXTON - Have lost some good cattle so it will be interesting too see what they've picked up but at this stage these two could slip out of the top 4.

NEW YEAR PREMIERSHIP FAVS- No reason why it shouldn't be CARISBROOK.. they list is pretty solid so they will be hard to toss again.

Thoughts guys?
