A bit like here in Australia with the LNP, it looks like the Tories are looking at what they are losing to the right, rather than what they are losing the left (as in towards the centre).

going to be an interesting election to watch

Because the right faction of the Conservative party have deluded themselves into think that they are the centre and that everyone to the left of them must therefore be fringe woke extremists. They are about to learn the hard way just how wrong they are on this.

If we assume recent polls are reasonably accurate then it seems a foregone conclusion that the Tories will lose this next UK election, the only question is by how much.

It'll be interesting to see if a similar scenario to what played out here in Australia at the last Federal election occurs, where many of the seats the Liberals lost were the more moderate and sensible types, leaving the right faction as comfortably the majority voice within a much smaller Liberal party room.

If so, this will make winning back the moderate middle of the bell-curve where the majority of voters sit (and where elections are won) far more challenging. For what it's worth I think this would be a bad outcome for UK democracy as a whole, as it leads to a lack of accountability for the sitting government.

The right side of politics right now is a civil war with many eager to copy the MAGA style.
