GOULBURN Valley league club Shepparton Swans (once known as Lemnos) have had a tumultuous year. They lost four dozen players before the season, told senior players they would have to take a pay cut mid-season, sacked their senior coach the next day and recently forfeited a reserves game because they had only half a team. And yet the Swans leaders are remarkably buoyant. President Bruce O’Keefe told The Age this week: "The club will be choofing along beautifully post-season."

ONE of the Swans’ main sources of confidence is the appointment of Perry Meka as coach for the 2010 and ’11 seasons. Meka, 43, is a renowned full-forward, having dobbed more than 2500 goals for various clubs in the Goulburn Valley area. He’s a controversial figure; in 2007, when he was playing at Kyabram District League club Ardmona, he was suspended for two games (reduced from six on appeal) for slapping a teenage supporter and striking another one after a game at Avenel. But in coaching terms he’s a renowned recruiter. At the moment he’s courting half-a-dozen players who would pull the Swans towards finals action. Speculation is rife that Adem Yze, who is Meka’s cousin, will join the Swans. Meka said Yze was likely to continue next year at VFL club Box Hill, where he’s an assistant coach. But with two Yze brothers, Damien and Ramadan, in the Swans’ line-up, it must be tempting for Adem to return to his home town to play footy, if not next year then in 2011.
And the big men fly … for the Eagles
DAMIEN Yze’s four goals for the Swans on Saturday were not enough to save his team from an 80-point mauling at Mansfield. The result left the home team in second place and the Swans ninth. (Rochester is on top and Benalla is last in the 12-club competition). Mansfield is coached by Collingwood premiership defender Craig Kelly, who’s used his contacts as the head of Elite Sports Properties to sign some big names. The Eagles team on Saturday included Royce Hart’s sons Simon (five goals) and Nathan (four), Tim Demetriou (nephew of Andrew), Nick Gieschen (son of Jeff) and Tim Van Der Klooster (ex-North Melbourne). Former Geelong forward David Mensch, 37, is a former Mansfield player who’s returned to the Eagles this year. Meka, a registered AFL player manager, does some work for Kelly at ESP. If Kelly’s recruiting efforts for Mansfield are a guide, expect to see some big recruits with Shepparton Swans in 2010, assuming the club can afford them.

Interesting to see MFL clubs tap into the one GVFL club heavily. Barooga have had this 'relationship' with Shepparton for some time and it now appears Cobram are doing the same with Mooroopna.
Can't be far away. The footy should be good as the top 3 sides are very close and Tat a bit off the pace. Mooroopna appear to be struggling and Seymour is the unknown

Seymour and Shep both have games against the top teams and probably Seymour have the most chance of the two of causing an upset. If they beat Tat they should be locked into the six, also their big % advantage over Shep also helps. For Shep to get in they have to beat Seymour away in the last game and also hope that Seymour don't win this week.
The 2nd position on the ladder is the other intersting one with Ky and Mansfield both jostling for that. Mansield have an easier run with the last game of the year at home to Tat the only danger. If they win the three and Ky lose one then it will be decided on %. Ky have to get over Shep Bears this weekend then have Rochie under lights the next week so that may be the decider for them.
Tat have three hard ones against Seymour, Mooroopna & Mansfield so they could end up anywhere

Tatura gave Seymour a fair old touch up today, their first half was the best gvl footy i've seen this year. It's really out of Tat, Rochy,Ky and Mansfield now, geez you gotta give credit to Euroa who have bounced back big time after a heap of players left last year. On form they are more deserving of a spot in the finals than Shepp, Seymour or Mooroopna.
Yeah they have had a great 5-6 weeks. I still think Seymour is in front of the others. Apparantly Mooroopna have some players struggling at the moment. I know it won't mean much to some but the rd 18 game between Echuca and Euroa might decide who is 'really' the best side outside the top 6. The top 3-4 are a long way i front. Puta deserves some credit for what he has done at Euroa.

Believe he was number 27, was fairly quiet and appeared to be carrying an injury ??
