Aaron Hall has been strongly linked with a move to North - rather that he joins Rohan in moving to North than either of them end up in Geelong colours next season

Hawthorn made it because they got Hodge, Franklin, Roughead, Lewis with early draft picks.
Richmond made it because they got Martin, Cotchin, Riewoldt, with early picks.
Bulldogs got Bontempelli, Stringer McCrae.
Collingwood had Pendelbury, Didak, Thomas,Brown
Doesn't matter which way you look at it you need some of those top 10-15 picks to be successful.
It's something we just haven't had access to.
No team that hasn't dropped down the ladder at least for a year has one a flag except Sydney who had Cola and academy picks.
The last time I can remember a club trading in a superstar and won a flag was Greg Williams.

Would richmond still have turned into a juggernaut without adding Caddy, Nankervis, Prestia?

Hawthorn traded in Burgoyne, Gunston & Lake. Three pretty handy players. May not have won three on the trot without them.
I agree that you need to pick up quality players in the draft, however there also other ways you can bring quality players to the club.

The trend is that you recruit and develop a core group of young players through the draft and then use trading/FA to address needs as the premiership window opens.

Would be a great deal for us, find it hard to believe that they'd push Hall out for that value though.

Dew’s interview earlier in the week was pretty clear that they wanted GHS and both Hall and KK were finished there with no contract extensions on offer.

Hall part of the god squad with Gaz and Smith, and KK obviously has his brother. As to whether we could (or would) try to get either or both, who knows, but add them to Dahlhaus and Rohan, and we’re building quite a collection of midrange whipping boys.

the landscape has changed
what you do is NOT reach with first round picks, and get one in 10 years to play 200 games
and then not make sure you offer overs in trades

Do you have any news on something worthy of getting excited about ?

Has the landscape really changed? Was there a time where getting that 1 in 10 /200 g player was acceptable?

We have to now get into a draft position where there is no need to reach , where the pick is the low hanging fruit.

Last time we had a top 10 pick we reached. Adelaide picked the better player with the later pick we gave them.

The last time we had a top ten pick.. we should have gone with the guy with crook knees? Isn't that something thats been talked about as well.. sound like Wells would have been admonished no matter which pick he took
