Analysis Father/Son Selections

I'm working on a proposal to submit to Peter Gordon, in which we have any head of recruiting killed should he force us to use our first pick on a father son selection. I was thinking of calling it the Ayce Cordy solution. Thoughts?

I think we should identify any father/son and make them play in the Sydney country league, so we never have to pay a first rounder again.

Ive heard that Ayce Cordys younger brother is an absolute gun and is set to emulate Ayce in becoming one of the greats of the FFC!!!!!

You can rest assured there is certainly no 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounder coming up in the next 2 years. Maybe a rookie list based on who they are, rather than how they play.

Hold on based on comments from McCartney today on Bontempelli
Reach, height and football intelligence are just some of the attributes that McCartney believes Bontempelli will bring to the young Bulldogs side.

He says he's confident the left-footer will have no problem transitioning into the team structure.
"He's already shown he fits the team, he understands what the team needs, which is not common with every young player," McCartney said.
"They come to the game with extraordinary talents, a lot of them, but he just understands footy and where he sits in the team."

Ability is obviously no criteria with Bulldog 1st pick.

Zane Cordy is now a certainty to be a 1st Rounder.

PS: Sorry to Zane he is actually a developing player with promise, it's just sometimes McCartney says the dumbest things and makes them sound reasonable.

Maybe just doesn't want to pump up his tyres too much?

Got rid of your bolds. Bolded my own bit - doesn't talent(s) mean the same thing as ability?

Yes it does, however he is talking about draftees in general there.

Fair point and agree you don't want to put too much pressure on a kid before his first game, I would have been happy if McCartney just kept it simple for a change and said something like "the kid shows good promise, will add a different dynamic and has adapted well to our game style."

I think its pretty safe to read between the lines when he says "they come to the game with extraordinary talents", that he is also referring to Bonts. regarding your second comment... that is essentially what he has said using different words.

I want to claim being first with the pun ... coz I know I won't be the last:

Could we have Linsanity and InZaine in the one side? It would be madness!
And then make them co-captains - inmates running the asylum, as the old over-used metaphor goes.

Was standing next to Libba Snr on sat when i was leaving.
He's younger son is now playing basketball and is pretty good at it from what i heard.

Hi guys saw Zaine play yesterday -----holy shit can he play smooth fast perfect chb will go first round for sure
Can you give more info on how he played? Lock down defender or provided some rebound?

Sounding pretty good, sounds like your ideal 3rd tall defender. Most forward lines will have at least 3 talls from now on you'd think (2 forwards and a ruckman is a pretty standard set up up front) and I haven't seen ZCordy play but he should end up tall enough, and from what I've read about him he's really good defensively but can win his own ball and uses it really well too (11 marks is pretty handy too) so he could make a pretty good set up with Roughy and Talia. Young and Wood are both looking okay too.

Wish we signed Foster to Footscray. Would have been good to have him training and learning off guys at the club to see if he can make it as a forward or not for us.
It might be better for his development to play against kids his age & get a bit of confidence up. Doubt he'd get a game at Footscray.

I have heard that Nigel Kellet has a son playing in the Melton area and is an absolute gun. About 14 or 15 years old I think. Any other info on him ??? Nigel just qualified by playing about 102 games I think.
