It's important to note though that it wasn't the only contributor - the Deccan traps were well under way at the same time affecting the climate, and although you wouldn't think so, plenty of animal groups survived through to the Paleogene (in particular frogs). So it may not have been the world wide cataclysm often portrayed.

Plus of course, that dinosaurs aren't actually extinct.
