Wrote this on the Port board yesterday but glad you started a thread.

Vale Dean Woods. Champion cyclist.

Went from world junior champ in the individual pursuit to gold medalist in the team pursuit at LA 1984 Olympics all within 6 months and along with Kevin Nicholls, Michael Grenda and Mike Turtur changed Australian cycling forever, knocking off the yanks and their NASA designed bikes with disc wheels never seen before the Olympics.

Finished 4th in the individual pursuit as an 18 year old in LA and then won silver 4 years later in Seoul. As a 30 year old, won bronze in Atlanta in the team pursuit.

Won another world championship, about 12 national championships, wrote a couple of books about cycling and was one of the first people to use the net to distribute bikes.

Road in the Vuelta in Spain a couple of times and some of the other road races in Europe below the 3 grand tours.

Battled cancer for several years. 55 is too young.
