Only New Zealand little brother syndrome finds a way to lose after having Australia 4/34 & 5/80. Pleased for Carey… Cummins could’ve blocked that last ball though

Combined team of the small series....

1 Latham 124 runs @ 31
2 Khawaja 88 @ 22
3 Ravindra 145 @ 36; 1 wicket @ 26
4 Green 238 @ 79: 3 wickets @ 28
5 Mitchell 111 @ 28
6 Marsh 120 runs @ 30; 1 wicket @ 39
7 Carey 125 @ 42
8 Phillips 90 runs @ 23; 6 wickets @ 14
9 Henry 101 runs @25: 17 wickets @ 16
10 Lyon 13 @ 13
11 Hazelwood 10 @ 18

Khawaja & Mitchell lucky poor series for batsmen generally.

Devo for Carey to not get his deserved ton, but a great knock. New Zealand really cannot put the nail in the coffin when playing Australia. 33 years without a series win now?
More importantly he batted sensibly and steered his side home. A swashbuckling 100 would have been worthless if Aus lost. it shouldn't have been left up to him and Marsh, but they came away with the win thanks mainly to those two.

Not necessarily 😆

Alex Carey is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock. Took 9 catches as well.

Hard watching on the TV but the NZ field placings in the last session seemed odd. Players placed to close to each other and no attempt to curtail the scoring. To see 2 players running for the same ball seems a poor bit of field placement.

not sure with that statement.
Most of Carey's runs have been when we have been in trouble rather than when we have been cruising.

He has often given his wicket away going for quick runs when the top order have done their job.

Has Steve Smith ever not reviewed when been given out?

Surprised he hasn't asked for a review if he was bowled.
This guy tried to.

Well this isn't going to last long. Start of play delayed by an hour. Then in the 2nd over Marsh is dropped, with Head getting out the very next ball.

Australia now 5/80, needing another 199 to win... with Glenn Maxwell back home in Australia.

I present the king of "this aged well"

You mean like shoehorning in someone who isn't an opener into an opening spot and refusing to drop a completely out of form number 3? And placing an inexperienced batter into 4?
Paine: If I'm the opposition, I want Smith opening the batting

It feels life everyone except Steve Smith and the Aussie selectors feel the same

I'd love to know how many times he's been out LBW already opening.
Smith's modes of dismissal, since taking over from Warner at the end of the Pakistan series...

LBW - 3
Bowled - 1
Caught (keeper) - 1
Caught (other) - 1
not out - 2

Of 6 completed innings, he's been LBW 3 times - and bowled in a 4th.

From memory (which may be wrong), he was bowled behind his legs, having moved too far to the off-side and exposing his stumps.
