Central Murray 2013

As we well know football these days are a business, not just a pastime. The big clubs like Kerang weren't successful because of mergers of 3 clubs. When Appin merged there were only 3-4 that played seniors in 1996. They are successful because they had a committee that worked on any weaknesses, like marketing yourself to prospective recruits to make it attractive to play there and getting community involved with sponsorship. The results have been spectacular.

The money Kerang are paying would have nothing to do with it either!!

Kerang are also very fortunate to have a great group of locals who are excellent player. Coates, Mathieson, Davis, Thamm the list goes on and on. They have a great core of locals and then can top up with recruits if need be

They are very fortunate to have many ex locals that want to come back and play at the club, they do well to get them and good on Kerang for doing what they do, but those locals are getting paid very well which helps with retention.

Why is it that barham and Cohuna have not seen the same results they have both had the best colts and even reserves teams over the past decade but it has not happened in the seniors Kerang have done extremely well holding on to their kids who could have got paid a lot more to go to a golden rivers side so money has not got everything to do with it I believe Kerang spend near the least on players in the central murray

If u can answer that Norman then u hit on the secret of their success. I am sure Cohuna have tried each year to Beth the likes of Archard, the Bartrem boys, the Andersonville etc back but for whatever reason haven't been able to. Kerang local boys play at Kerang and they are successful

Kerang has built a culture that starts from the top with the committee. The local players that stick around play for the right reason, mate ship and success. The locals that don't play for those reasons go elsewhere, e.g. mallee eagles. Kerang have been at the top now for over 10 years. If they spend big money like people suggest 200-300k how could a town of 4 thousand sustain that? (2-3million over 10 years)

What happens to all the raiders gun juniors? Kerang have certainly turned the tables from when they entered the cmfl, they would now be the envy of clubs through the state with how they keep their locals, how they transform from colts players to quality senior players and their selective recruiting of local district players and tipping up with a couple of quality recruits, through local connections

The majority of juniors move on (uni, work) after they finish secondary college and it's too hard to get them back due to the travel, the sooner Cohuna move to another league to the south the better. The common response trying to get these juniors back "if Cohuna was as far as I had to travel, I'd would be playing there"

Cohuna has a new coach Rick Easton, after the last one took the money and went back were he came from
the club has made it well known there was no money change hands or a contract signed or costs paid etc... only time wasted, should be flying under Rick (that's tongue in check), Cohuna will not win 1 game this year, pencil them in for last
