As the 2018 sponsor for Ainsworth; it's time to get cracking.
I picked the dark horse of the draft, Brayden Ainsworth'
Not highly rated by any of us really; most in the draft knew nothing about him.
Most of us still know nothing.
So in an effort to educate the uninitiated; we BEGIN!

First up is who the heck is this guy I'm actually sponsoring:

Too much reading?

'Elliot Yeo reckons first-year Eagle Brayden Ainsworth could be a round one dark horse if he holds his form this pre-season.'
'but Yeo said several players and officlals took note of his composure, tenacity and courage.'

'Duffield said while he wasn’t totally convinced Venables was ready for an AFL debut, he liked the look of Esperance product Brayden Ainsworth.'

Named on an extended bench for Round 1 after rocketing into the mix for senior selection during the JLT series.

Probably will miss out, but if he does debut he'll be the 235th Eagles player, the eighth player to wear the number 33 guernsey (after Hill, JJones, Fido Matera, Godden, Dale Kickett, Kemp and Don Holmes) and the second Brayden. He'll also continue a long tradition of Esperance products playing for West Coast - Quinten Lynch, Mark Hepburn and former captain Murray Rance all hailed from the area, as did initial squad member Don Langsford.

WAFL Update:

Round 4:
Playing for the Royals; Ainsworth racked up 23 disposals; 5 marks; 3 tackles 4 inside 50's and a goal.

Good start for the young man after having limited game time due to his 'emergency status'

Round 5:

Bigger game from Ainsey with 26 disposals; 4 marks; a tackle and 2 behinds.
Promising signs again. As I don't live in WA anymore; it's tough to see from an eye perspective of how good of a player he is; but looks to have settled in well as a midfielder and seems to be a bit of a ball magnet.

In other news:

Unlucky to miss out on selection once again with Dom being out of the team; but it's only a matter of time until he debuts.

Additionally:

Ainsworth has resigned for an additional 2 years; locking him in until 2020.

Named to debut this week against GWS with both Shuey and Petruccelle coming out injured. All the above is still true except with all the debutants that got in ahead of him, he's now the 241st Eagles player.

Miguel is correct!
Ainsworth to DEBUT!

For Ainsworth, an Esperance native, it has been a rapid rise from reserves football with Subiaco last season to make his AFL debut. His toughness inside the contest and clean ball use has been a feature this season and will thrive on the challenge of facing one of the league’s best midfields in the Giants.

Ainsworth Debut - Round 8

With Shuey and Sheed going down respectively with injuries, Ainsworth maanged the opportunity to sneak in and play his first game for the blue and gold.
He wasn't overawed by the situation; typical tough hard at the ball and excellent defensive pressure with 8 tackles. Lacks the upper body strength and size to play constantly in the midfield; and will take another 2 years in the pre-season gym to get to a good size. Showed plenty of compure in close; however when he had time and space his kicking let him down.

Overall it was quite a solid debut from Ainsworth; and he would have enjoyed getting the first clearance of the game.

Stats:
7 Kicks
8 Handballs
15 Disposals total (7 Contested)
3 marks
2 Clearances
8 Tackles

WAFL Round 7

Ainsworth was sent back to the WAFL with some experience under his belt.
In an absolute flogging; he still racked up plenty of the ball.
Equal highest disposals in the game; but its the 2 goals that especially is exciting for us.

27 Disposals; 9 Marks; 3 Tackles and 2 Goals
