The dynamic midfielder was leading Richmond’s best and fairest count before a complicated ankle injury ended his 2009 season at round 14. Impressively, still finished third at the club for handballs (223) and hard-ball gets (79), and has worked hard to improve his defensive skills. 2010 was a year Foley would rather forget as he battle further complications with his body, in particular his ankle.

After 4 games the RFC Medical staff decided it was best for Nathan and the team that he prepare for the following season. As he started his rehabilitation early, Foley will hopefully be fit and firing in 2011 as an integral part of Richmond's midfield rotation.

Hardwick said Nathan Foley (leg) and Trent Cotchin (Achilles) were among those set to resume full training later in January.

"We're never going to rush Nathan," Hardwick said.

"We've just got to persevere and take some time with him."

Foley was leading the club's best and fairest count before suffering an ankle injury in round 14, 2009 and played only four games last year.

Watched a game from 2008 today. Hadn't forgotten how electrifying and truly great he was, but wow, to watch him get 6 score assists, including running out of the centre circle and delivering lace-out to Richo, it gets me excited if he can get 100% match fit this year and explode all over again.

Cotchin / Martin / Foley / Deledio...future best midfield in the competition. Go tiges.
