Round 8: AFL Round 8

South-Eastern Polar Bears (4th) vs. Animals run wild (7th)
The Ladyboys (5th) vs. South West Dragons (6th)
Broome Bears (1st) vs. The Cheetahs (3rd)
City Oval Plovers (2nd) vs. Outback Meerkats (8th)

We are officially into the second half of the season which is remarkable, and the Broome Bears are setting the pace, but have a huge clash with The Cheetahs coming up. City Oval Plovers will look to add another win on the board against the Meerkats, while the wounded Ladyboys sit just percentage ahead of the rising South West Dragons. In the other game, fourth placed South-East Polar Bears will look to potentially take a top three spot with a win, while the Animals will be keen to keep in touch the with top four.

Note: Updated to reflect SEPB's win over COP last week which was mistakingly put in as the opposite way around.

So thanks for the extra bit of digging I've had to do for a precendent:

I thought we might have had a 5% (Friday)/10% (Saturday)/20% (Sunday)/50% (not a all) rule for teams submitted late. I know non-submission in the past has just been a flat zero, but knowing you I don't doubt the team would have been submitted. I think it's happened to be before, I just can't find the post.

Looking back at one time when Jordie_tackles asked about late submissions I found this:

1.9 Team Submissions
Teams are to be submitted to fan footy by Friday (Or basically on the eve of the first game in each round) at the latest. A thread will also be created each week, specifying when the teams have to be in, with all the details enclosed in that thread. It’s always entitled, Round #: Team Submission. If a team is not submitted on time, the team will be taken as of last week.

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/lffl-rules-thread.645479/#post-39191836

Going off last week's team, the changes would be Moore to CC (25), McGrath to F (24.5), B Crouch to IM (30) and Fiorini to U (DNP). It would mean a total of 393.75.

I'm inclined given your record of submitting teams to give you something at least as I know how BF can play up, but we have to have a precedent in place that still penalises people that don't, because we'd hate it to be the scenario in a final or something. But as you're actually playing me, I'm happy to throw it open to the others as to what the precedent becomes.

There's obviously:

- Warning
- Last week's team
- % Penalty of some sort

I'm leaning towards last week's team as that's what we used last time. But what do fightingfury_88 Drew23 sr20 as the long-term players think of this scenario? I know for example Drew was late with submission and didn't play the involved players, ending in a reduced score, so obviously there has to be some penalty.

I fell in a similar situation a few weeks back....though think I forgot to hit post as it was still appearing as a default reply when I reloaded the page the next day... As WAG posted after the last game I'd suggest a small penalty to his overall score

Happy to cop whatever but it would suck as in my 7 years i don't think ive ever missed. Also legitimately thought id posted my tram as per normal. I usually jump on during the weekend but had Mother's day stuff on and then the showdown.

Anyway I'll leave it to you guys to make a ruling. xx
I say strip WAG of all premiership points and ban him from the first 2 rounds of the draft. ;)

In all seriousness I'm pretty comfortable that it was an honest mistake by WAG, but whatever decision is made needs to remain consistent with any other similar scenarios that might happen again this season. I think the best way to apply a consistent rule is to just automatically select the same team as the previous week, but apply no % penalty to the score.

I say we let WAG off with a warning and we all move on happy in the knowledge that the right thing was done!

Is it not a bit hard to apply a percentage penalty now, knowing how it will affect results? Maybe good in future but the last week scenario seems fairest.

Do we now need to back date amos scores to the last time he submitted in 2016 to be fair?

So I think I have worked out a fair solution and for future issues where a coach seems to have genuinely had issues submitting.

First time (in a season) - Average points score for the year
Second time - Last week's team
Third and after that - Zero (because if you haven't learnt your lesson by now, too bad and find another way to submit).

I still think there's room to move, but I genuinely believe WAG when he says it was BigFooty stuffing up, so The Ladyboys average score for the season after the first seven rounds is 525.

So it means The Ladyboys 525 defeated South West Dragons 458.5.

It also goes without saying this is site-problem related, not "whoops I forgot". So we'll go by the honesty policy, and it happens maybe once a year, so most of the time this shouldn't get past stage 1. But if there's suddenly an influx in "bloody BigFooty" then we'll revise haha. But everyone is pretty good submitting teams.
