I had the same condition in 2009. Doctors told my family they didn't know if I was going to make it, and if I did, they thought I would have some amount of brain damage. I was completely unconscious but I wasn't in a coma (there's some technical difference), and I lost about 4 days of memories. The only reason I survived was because of a friend checking up on me after not being able to reach me. She found me unconscious on the floor and called an ambulance. They flooded my system with anti-virals and just hoped for the best. Luckily I came out of it with no lasting effects. It can jump on you very quickly though. If you ever have a weird headache that you've never felt before, go to emergency and get checked out. The time you wait can kill you.
