i dont believe in the irish experiement, time would be better spent looking at leftovers in subruran leagues rather than teach a lad to play the game...How many have become elite Vs the time effort expended to get most to just ordinary standard..EG Begley, O'Halpin types...was it worth it:confused:

Considering that there are going to be draft concessions for a while and international rookies are outside the list then not getting at least one would be remiss of the board.

Just a coincidence or has Marty Clarke got every Irishman barracking for Collingwood now Tadhg Kennelly is no longer!? :p

No (thankfully), an Irishman who played magoos footy with my club for half a year on his Australian odyssey is a bona fide Dees man. Though he does have a soft spot for M.Clarke

It's Barry O Reilly. Cavan Minor captain this year. The lads just 18. A pretty poor county, a good player but it will realy hurt Cavan, they don't produce a lot of talented lads.

County minor captain on trial with AFL club

Barry Reilly, the captain of this year's county minor team, is currently on trial in Australia with AFL outfit North Melbourne Kangaroos.

The Kingscourt Stars clubman has been closely monitored by much-publicised Australian agent Ricky Nixon and his scouting team and they are believed to have been impressed with the 18-year-old Cavan lad's all-round game.

Nixon, currently featuring on RTE's 'The Oz factor', personally visited Kingspan Breffni Park to cast his eyes over midfielder Reilly during Cavan's Ulster Minor league campaign on his last visit to Ireland.

Obviously he was impressed with what he saw, as Reilly has been invited 'down under' – without attending any of the trial camps that have been held on these shores in recent times, including one which was controversially staged at Breffni Park.

Reilly was asked to the last camp that Nixon staged back in April, along with another Cavan prospect, Swanlinbar midfielder Gearoid McKiernan, but he was unable to attend the camp at that time.

The talented footballer departed last Thursday and is not expected back until next Sunday, which will see him miss his club's senior championship match against Denn.

His absence will be a big loss to Kingscourt Stars as they attempt to build on from an opening victory over Lacken but the chance to travel to Australia in a bid to win a professional contract does not come around too often.

Reilly has been tipped for quite some time as a potential Cavan senior footballer and has played in key positions for the county minor team for the past two years. This year he started at midfield as Cavan were defeated by Down at the quarter-final stage.

The Kangaroos, who last won the AFL title a deace ago in 1999, are one of Australia's leading clubs but whether Reilly can master the oval ball remains to be seen.

As Nixon continues his recruitment drive in Ireland, Cavan football looks like it could be hit hard with the agent closely monitoring talented GAA players – particularly from this province.

So he's not even on trial with us?

Ya that just occured to me there. There's a young lad, Jamie O Reilly, plays U21s for Mayo (I think) it could be him, but I've heard nothing, there's nothing in the papers, nothing around the GAA boards, and it's a bit of a coincidence that there's a Barry O Reilly who they say is on trial with a different club..so who knows. I'm sure it'll get cleared up in a while.
