Heath Shaw

Player Information
Born: 27-Nov-1985
Age: 21
Hgt: 181cm
Wgt: 80kg
Recruited From: Diamond Creek via Northern U18

AFL Debut: 2005, R17 vs St Kilda at Telstra Dome
Games: 28
Goals: 10

After a long-awaited AFL debut, Heath, son of former club captain Ray, and nephew of premiership skipper Tony, showed plenty of signs, but in 2006 when he came into the side as a late replacement, would keep his place for the rest of the year in what was the majority, a top 4 side.

Shaw, after playing a best on ground, 30 touch game in wet and windy conditions at Pt. Gellibrand for VFL affiliate Williamstown, would have an impact in the Pies first win of the season. On ANZAC Day, Shaw would have more game time and continued his consistency off half-back, having 25 touches and an amazing 15 marks. A week later he would earn a NAB Rising Star nomination for his 23 touches and 10 marks against Port Adelaide.

Shaw continued his amazing consistent patch, claiming more than 25 touches a match between rounds 4-10, and would be a focul point running out of the backline. His ability to catch oppositions off guard was special, whether it be to find space to set the play up, or read the game and steal possession.

Shaw, as consistent as he was, fell away with the team in the second half, but was still one of the better performers, including a best on ground performance against reigning premiers Sydney, where he showed poise and courage. He would once again pick up when finals were a month away. A career best 33 touches, along with 11 marks, and a booming 60 metre goal against Port Adelaide would help them to a nail biting victory.

Shaw's courage, proffesionalism and consistency saw him have an awesome breakthrough season. A top three finish in the NAB Rising Star, equal 4th in the club best and fairest, missing by three votes, the Gavin Brown award for his brilliant courage (where he would blitz the benchmark, and also his team-mates), and would also receive the Phonse Kyne Award for his services to the club.

SCOTT PENDLEBURY

Guernsey Number: 10

Height: 189.8cm

Weight: 81.4kg

Recruited From: Gippsland

Debut: Round 10, 2006 v Brisbane Lions at MCG

Date of Birth: 7 January 1988

The former Gippsland Power star, who was the Magpies’ second selection, at No. 5 overall, in the 2005 AFL Draft, overcame a bout of glandular fever in the off-season to play nine games in an immensely promising debut season. Poised, classy and athletic, Pendlebury pressed hard for selection in the first half of the season with a series of impressive performances for Williamstown, and was finally given his chance on the big stage against the Brisbane Lions in round 10. Looked composed in each of his appearances, he showed he can certainly find the football against quality opposition with 23 possessions against Fremantle in round 10, and with further physical maturity should develop into a fine midfielder for years to come.

All directly from the Collingwood website but this is a work in progress , there is more pendling . Errr , I mean pending

The reason I chose Scott is because with a senior player you already know what you are getting . Whilst it would have been great to glow in the radiated shine from Bucks , Scotty Burns , Presti or Dids etc I will take a lot of joy seeing how Pendles develops this year and what he has in store for the Collingwood Football Club .

Travis "TC" Cloke

Guernsey Number: 32
Height: 195cm
Weight: 85kg
Recruited from: Park Orchards/Eastern U18
Debut: 25/04/05 - Round 5 Vs Essendon.
Date of Birth: 5th March 1987

After a stunning debut season in 2005, Travis endured a fairly quiet first half of season 2006, but throughout the second half of the season produced some extremely impressive games at centre-half forward, before injuring a shoulder in 21 and missing the rest of the season. Showed why he is considered such an important part of the Magpies’ future with his best-on-ground display in gathering 22 possessions, hauling in 12 marks and booting two goals in the big win over Hawthorn at the MCG in round 17.
Travis Cloke recieved the Round 10 Rising Star nomination in 2005, Cloke had 15 touches, took six marks and kicked a goal in that match for the Pies at the MCG. Travis represented Victoria in volleyball, (and would have been an Australian rep)
He had a face reco at the end of 2004, reason why he wears braces!
I can see great things happening for Travis this year and for the rest of his career. Which is the main reason I chose him to be my buddy for 2007
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,21234467%5E19763,00.html, This is a link to an article released on him on February 16.

Re: Official 2007 Magpies Nest

Tarkyn Lockyer - Collingwood Star

The oft maligned courageous ball carrier appeared to start 2006, on fire. He made 20 disposals in nearly all of the first 14 games, with Sydney, Geelong and Hawthorn clashes the exceptions. The small backman appeared to have his confidence shot to bits by Jeff Farmer in Round 15. The Collingwood man bounced back with a strong game against the Eagles the following week before starting a successful stint in the forwardline for most of the remainder of the year. Maligned for his effort against the Bulldogs, the small player gathered 22 disposals and was, in all reality, one of the Pies better players. Had perhaps the most under rated season in 2006 Collingwood has seen. Is pivotal to the squad in 2007.

Rating for 2006 7.5/10
Decision for 07: Keep

Ryan Cook

Height: 186 cm
Jersey number: 29
Weight: 78 kg
Recruited from: Rosebud/Dandenong Stingrays (VIC)
Date of birth: 16 February 1988

Cook is a lively midfielder/half-forward who kicked three goals and had 19 disposals to be one of the Dandenong Stingrays’ best in their losing TAC Cup Grand Final against Gippsland Power. The Magpies’ fourth pick at 23 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft, Cook is fast and displays great endurance, as evidenced by a 13.7 beep test result.

Cook spent his first season at the club playing for VFL affiliate Williamstown, and started slowly in the midfield before being moved forward where he found his spot. Booted five goals against Sandringham in round nine to show his true ability, but his season was interrupted by a couple of injuries. Lively player with good pace and excellent endurance, will be looking to push hard for senior selection in 2007.

"Ryan Cook was very impressive, and he will push now for selection next week in the pre-season cup, round one." Brad Scott after Collingwood vs. Sydney practice match.

draft history: 2004 NAB AFL rookie draft pick no. 21 overall
position: half back flank
AFL Debut: 31/07/05- Round 18 Fremantle
games: 13
goals: 1

After four promising games in 2005, the Brazillian-born O'Brien was elevated from the rookie list at the beginning of the 2006 season following the long-term injury to Sean Rusling, and finished the year with a permanent spot on the senior list for 2007 after nine appearances mainly playing as an attacking half back. Showed his not overrawed by the pressure of AFL football by playing very well on the big ANZAC Day stage in the memorable win over Essendon, and regulary backed himself by running hard and rebounding the ball out of the back half. Athelic and confident, the 20 year old has shown he is capable of playing plenty of games for the black and white.

GUY RICHARDS

Guernsey Number: 21
Height: 200cm
Weight:93kg
Recruited From:Coldstream/Eastern U18
Debut:Round 2, 2004 v Western Bulldogs at MCG
Date of Birth:21 March 1983
Nickname: Stretch
Fact: Largest appendage on the Pies list.

Richards looked to have put the disappointment of an injury-wrecked 2005 season behind him by playing the first five games of 2006, but form and injury again saw him miss large chunks of the season. Voted the Magpies’ best first-year player in 2004, Richards has enormous potential, and once his fitness and form can come together, is expected to form a potent ruck partnership with Josh Fraser.

Could hold the key to the Pies Finals aspirations. If Richards can hold down the No. 1 ruck position, ruck effectively giving the Pies some taps to advantage, this will allow Josh Fraser to roam forward and give our often maligned midfield a much needed edge over their opponents.

Could be a make or break for Richards given the number of seasons on the senior list, for the number of games played. Has completed his 1st full pre-season since being a Pie and his body appears to be in good shape.

One to watch out for.

Collingwood fc website biography:

The No. 2 overall selection in the 2005 AFL Draft started his first season of AFL football like he’d been in the caper for years. The skinny 18-year-old from Drouin showed as early as round one that he certainly has that special touch of class that Collingwood saw in him when he was dominating for Gippsland in the under 18 competition, and displayed a willingness to take on his opponent and apply extreme pressure when the opposition had the ball. His 16-possession, two-goal debut against the Crows was something to behold for Magpie fans, while his two goals on ANZAC Day were crucial in helping to get the side record that memorable victory over Essendon. Played 16 games, mainly across half forward and pushing up the ground, and was the round two AFL Rising Star nominee after his 20-possession performance against Hawthorn.

Chris Bryan

The Write Up:
Well in my view chris bryan could be a suprize pick up for the pies this year. I remeber watching him last years and just being wowed by his huge kick and his moveablity for such a big bloke. As the pies need someone to help out josh in the ruck, Richards and Bryan will definatley get game time this year. The latter of the two an already built machine who can hold his own out on the field. May also be useful as a de-coy this year in the forward line. As they say the tall guys doint get any shorter and will be a hard match up for any defender

Hahaha to all the people who think Clarke will be the next Judd. Delusional.

He is way better than that.

Collingwood Bio

The two time EW Copeland Trophy winner had a solid season in 2006 without being at his absolute best. Licuria still racked up some big numbers in the midfield, like in Rnd 9 against the Bulldogs (35 touches) and in Rnd 21 against the Blues (31) and averaged nearly 23 touches in only 21 games for the season.
He spent some time back at Williamstown mid year after a slight drop in form. It is fair to say that by the end of 2006 Licuria was again playing some fine footy, demostrated when he equalled his career best goal tally with four majors to go with 26 disposals in the round 22 rout of the Kangaroos. One of the toughest and most respected players at the Collingwood Football Club, Licuria, who has played 181 games, will be looking to return to his ultra consistent best in season 2007.

Guernsey Number: 7

Height 178 cm

Weight: 86 kg

Recruited From: Claremont (WA) / Fremantle

Debut: 2002

Date of Birth: 11 December 1981

Traded to Collingwood from Fremantle with selection No.8 in the 2006 draft for Chris Tarrant, Medhurst joins the Magpies after five seasons and 99 games with the Dockers. Was twice Fremantle’s leading goalkicker (2003, 2004), with his best season coming in 2003 when he booted 50 goals. Fell out of favour with the Fremantle selectors towards the end of 2006 and felt he needed a change. Is considered an excellent overhead mark despite standing just 178 centimetres, and with his ability to also crumb very effectively, can provide opposition coaches with match-up problems. Fremantle wanted him to bulk up to play almost as a key forward, but 25-year-old is looking to shed a few kilograms in the hope of being able to spend more time up the ground for the Magpies.

The reliable defender enjoyed an excellent start to 2006 after establishing himself in the side in 2005 and was developing into one of the leaders of the backline. However, a broken leg suffered against the Brisbane Lions in round ten derailed his campaign. Returned courageously in round 17 and finished off the season strongly. Has proved one of the success stories of the club having been plucked off the rookie list in 2004, and with another pre-season of conditioning under his belt, should continue to perform a role in defence each week for the coach.
