MONDAY night football on free-to-air TV will become a weekly fixture in the AFL's next broadcast rights deal.

And in another blow, one of football's great traditions is bound for the scrapheap.

The Saturday afternoon 2.10pm start will go under the new deal, with the time to be pushed out by an hour to allow the TV broadcast to run straight into the evening news bulletin

Words cannot express my hate for this administration. Selling their f-ing souls.

the 2:10 thing will affect attendances.

it'll probably stop me from going to a game or 2 where i have stuff to do afterwards on a saturday night

Christ I hope we win the flag this year so I can **** off this organisation and go back to local footy.

This article and the bastardisation of what happened tonight is just the latest example of how they've ****ed the game.

pretty much what i'm planning on doing... except im not going to local footy.

once we win a flag i'm hoping to wane my attendances to 12-15 games a year.

footy just ain't what it used to be - but i just need to see that damn flag.

If St Kilda win the premiership this year I can fulfil my childhood dream and f**k this sport off forever. Soccer and Rugby is better anyway. They're also international something gAyFL will never be.

And pushing the time back an hour would affect country fans who love to go by train, they now would have to stay overnight, when normally they'll go back to their towns in the one day. Affects a lot of things.

More time at the ROyal? Maybe catch two shows instead of one?
Seriously, Saturday arvo footy is the last bastion of tribalism at its best. My hatred for this organisation knows no bounds. Shame AFL, shame.

This is what happens when you tie big parts of the CEO's salary to the headline figure in the broadcast rights deal. Demetriou really wants those nine zeroes.

its probably not a reliable source, since the writer has not alot of ideas in the deal/media rights.

"New multi-channels on free-to-air TV will allow the Monday night game to go live around Australia, with the broadcaster able to show it on its secondary channel, for example on Channel 7Two or Ten HD."

The Govt still does not allow live sports to be played on 7two or 1hd if its not shown on the main channel. Both Lib & Lab don't want Foxtel/Murdoch to get angry or they will hijack their party with fake proproganda stories about their parties

Pricks. Though it may make it easier for me to go after my kids footy it just shits me the way they are changing everything to suit the broadcasters.

Still, as long as enough people continue to go and to watch on tv they'll keep doing what they're doing.

This is a good point, though the anti-siphoning rules are under review so it may end up turning out as the article states. It does reflect poorly on the journo to make that argument without also mentioning the politics behind it.

what the ****, easily the best timeslot for footy
who the **** cares about monday night footy??? it will be a shit game every week as well
cant believe the AFL are this stupid

How are they going to show it on Ten HD when it no longer exists?

That rule has to go by the wayside when the analogue plug is pulled, otherwise it's bureaucratic idiocy at its best.
