I might be naive though and reckon Tex wants to enjoy his football.

I'm sure I could enjoy it for the $$$ extra he would get at GWS.

I don't know what sort of money would be on offer but surely we could add one or two $100,000s to his contract compared to what he will get here at AFC. Yes? No?

Them's a lot of dollars for a young guy setting himself up. All we have to counter with would be a solid offer and off field help from some cluey business people. I'm not sure that and promises of bigger crowds and more success will compete with the almighty dollar.

quite fraknly with spuds like Biglands in the media I've decided to ignore any details on any AFC player being linked to the GWS until there are confirmed signed backed up with announcements from the club

I didn't get to see last nights match, but from what i have heard it wasn't pretty

did Coad end up playing? I was amazed to see him as an emergency,

Watching Bock last night I am glad he is gone and Davis is our CHB.

If Walker goes it aint the end of the world. We are still going to win flags with or without him.

Would be great if he stays though.

Oh really?

how can you justify making that statement.

Forgetting about Taylor Walker, as this is nothing to do with him but we are a proven joke of a team when it comes to finals football over the last decade.

I wondered the same. Watching that piece about "Ablett talks about moving to the Gold Coast" on the AFL site - he said thathe's more of a lead by example captain. Which i great, if he has a side that will learn that way, but I don't think the GCS are that team. Watching it, you could hear Blight's frustration with the structures and basic positioning, and you could see hesitation (especially in the first quarter). They'll improve, no dubt about it, but I saw Bock doing more leading by example, and I'm not sure Gary Jr is really captain material.

I love Gaz Jnr as a player but as a captain I agree with you.

I have no idea what he is like off the field but the way he speaks just doesn't inspire confidence.

Uses a lot of phrases like "I guess", "sort of", "might", "maybe" in sentences that just don't need it.

being a joke of a team in the past doesn't mean we will be a joke of a team in the future.

Its a bit hard to beleive things will change when the system we use doesn't. Their is no reason to say, our finals record will improve. It's only going with blind faith.

And anyone who honestly believes the Gold Coast will still be crap (ala Brisbane Bears circa 1980's) are dead set kidding themselves. Next year, they will fight for a finals spot and in 3 years time will be a top 4 side. I'm sure, Gary Ablett understands that and is willing to out up with a bit of pain in the short term.

Listening to ABC radio here in the Riverland yesterday and they said the Biglands announced on radio that Walker has already signed with GWS, wonder if there's any truth in this?

Considering the chat I had a couple of weeks ago with a man very much in the know with such matters, I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on Biggles there. Walker has absolutely no intentions at this stage of moving to GWS, there has been no discussions between the two parties and assuming he gets a fair go from Craigy this year we have absolutely nothing to worry about.

i wonder if gold coasts biggest problem
isn't who they recruited more than anything else.

Wallsy wrote a brilliant article about ablett recently wondering whether he's the kinda person to thrive in that environment, combined with absolute spuds like N Krakoeur & system defenders like bock.

Yes, I was thinking exactly the same watching them last night. Whilst I think they've done the right thing picking up blokes like Ablett, Bock, Brown, Rischetelli (sp?) and Harris, they really erred in not picking up another mature 192cm+ KPD, a genuine ruckman and one or two genuine, mature KPF's.

They really looked like a team without structure, Dixon and Smith look extremely promising, however are still boys and Bock works best as a CHB, who has the backing of a genuine shut down FB. Why on earth Coad wasn't in the side is a complete mystery.

They just need a couple of experienced, bigger bodies who can hold down key positions and take the pressure off some of the youngsters. They probably should have chased down someone like James Sellar at the end of last year, someone who would come relatively cheap, but could give them someone who can man up against those 195cm + forwards, whilst letting Bock do what he does best.

I'm definitely of the opinion that Fraser was not the right player to go after, the youngster Smith already looks like a better ruckman and Gorringe will make for a great addition in a couple of years. They have definitely erred in not picking up Jonathon Giles and letting him fall to GWS though.

Oh well, I suppose they've made their bed...

And there is nothing saying it won't. So guess what? You are as blind just as much as the people who think we can turn it around.

Yikes!

Forget Biglands' comments. Now I'm worried.

I think it stems because Steven Silvagni (now their main recruitment man) has only just begun working properly for GWS.

He will be approached in due course.

Agree that in few years time they will be a finals contender. My query is how many of Gold Coasts kids are going to remain loyal when they come out of contract?
