Pick 4 Brisbane - Julian Dobosz

He measured in short with below average athletics but I really like the young Tasmanian. He has great goal sense and is just very clever around goals. He has never done a full preseason and there is a hell of a lot of upside in him. Get him into a professional environment and doing specialist training programs and he could blossom into a very dangerous forward option.

The Lions need some KP and I would expect them to go with the big guys in the rookie draft especially at the defensive end. Dobosz is just too much for me to resist though and its not like our key forwards are particularly strong. Dobosz would give the ressies forward line a legitimate target no matter who is in the firsts. This will help the small brigade with their development by providing a better structure than they had for too much of the time lasts year when Brown went down.

The other guy I strongly considered here was Bussey.

Was hoping to get Frost, Clarke or Nelson here, but alas.

Pick #5 Adelaide - Josh Waldhuter (183cm/Central Districts/1993)

This kids a bit of a wrecking ball. Attack on the ball and the man is superb, a real tackling machine who not only puts in the effort, he executes well with his tackling game. Really his stand out feature at this point in time.

He's got a long way to go with his polish, in particularly his decision making and execution by foot. At present he's a bit too much like uncaging a tornado on the ball, he grabs it and thumps the pants off it. He also needs to work on his ball finding ability to be a full time mid, and at present he lacks the tools to play off the HBF and the nous to play HFF. Another point of issue could be the 'man amoungst boys' theory. He's a strong lad and bullied players at the champs, which won't be as easy the next couple of levels up.

Apart from his poor endurance testing, I was plesantly surprised with his speed and agility testing, in particular his first 5 meters, which is top notch. Have to pu this lad in a classroom and teach for a while, but the efoort, teamwork and fire will not dissapoint.

Probably could have gone a more outside player here given the Crows inside, inside, inside work at the ND, but my preferances had been taken.

Pick # 8 Fremantle - Gibson Turner (178cm forward - Federal/NT)

Simply a case of best available here for Fremantle. And also as I think Fremantle need two things - height and speed, this pick definitely fills one of those needs. I rate Gibson very highly, still don't know why GWS didn't take him as a zone selection. Or why nobody took him in the national draft either - I'd have dropped a top 30 pick on him on talent alone.

As most people would know, I was a big fan of Murray Newman. He was a midfielder who could go forward, Turner is the opposite. A small forward first and foremost, but with the ability to push up the ground and run in the midfield. Is creative around goals, and has that knack of kicking goals from anywhere. A forward line of Ballantyne, Walters and Turner would cause quite a few headaches.

I also think there is a bit of Aaron Davey in him, and would be interested in seeing Turner play off half back. He has excellent speed, good vision in traffic and very good skills, Fremantle could do a lot worse than trying to replace Roger Hayden with Gibson Turner.

Thanks for the selection Chris, I had 2 players in mind for Pick 2: Manson and Clarke, but Snoop took Manson so that made Clarke the easy choice.

Pick 2: Gold Coast - Justin Clarke

I have never seen him live and only have limited reports and a bit of video to go off. Yet he looks a reasonable CHB option. Has the basic tools, yet very much untested against better opponents.

He looks a good athlete, especially agility, moves well with great closing speed. This should see him compete well in the future. He also looks to read the game very well and is reasonably strong body on body from a few reports. He has a nice mark as well for a defender and reads the ball well in flight. Defensively looks the part, from reports and the limited video I have of him. Offensively his skills are good, looked like he could get involved in rebound more. Needs to back himself more, although from limited viewing reports I could be wrong.

Edit: Also reported to be training with Brisbane

HFF can have the other player he was considering for the PSD...

Pick # 9 Western Bulldogs - Jye Bolton (183cm midfielder - Collingwood)

Collingwood rookie who was delisted after just the one season on the rookie list. From the limited vision I've seen, seems a nice player at least. Not one I've followed though.

I don't have a list from Jonts, so unless Snoop does, we'll wait a little bit before we move on.

Time to really get this thing going. Thanks to everyone who sent through lists...

Pick # 10 North Melbourne - Max Duffy (189cm forward/midfielder - East Fremantle)

I really like Duffy, was rated as a top 30 selection coming into the season too. Has had a few problems, and didn't quite come on as many would have expected. But a very talented player, and was consistent at Colts level.

Pick # 11 Essendon - Lachie Dalgleish (185cm midfielder - North Ballarat)

One of the real athletes in this draft, thought his speed might just have been enough to get him drafted in the national draft. But it wasn't to be.

Pick # 12 St Kilda - Tom Lee (194cm forward/defender - Claremont)

A very good pick up, one I would have considered for Fremantle in the second round. Bit of a jack of all trades in the WAFL, so will be interesting to see which position he is settled in to at AFL level.

Pick # 13 Sydney - Brett O'Hanlon (189cm forward - Dandenong)

I've been told I don't this guy highly enough. Generally plays up around half forward, is a very strong mark and big kick. Could probably play pretty early.

I was looking at Lee for my next pick. Looks a lot better prospect now than when he was at Adelaide. The penny seems to have dropped for him. Interesting that his WAFL coach said that he lacked a little pace to play KPD at AFL level and then he comes out and runs a 2.92. It just goes to show how some guys can time well but not play with pace.

Usually those who are a little flat footed or don't read play well. Some are the opposite, run +3's, but are always first to the ball drop and don't get beaten on leads. Testings great, but can't be relied upon for everything.

Surely someone can pick up Michael Florio, he has plenty of AFL tools. He looked good on the wing and running forward has a decent long kick and is bloody quick.

WCE have looked at closely for a couple of years now played in wce scratch match when they needed wafl players to make up numbers.

With 4 rookie picks maybe someone we will look at.

Hadyen Busher is another in a similar boat.

Sorry HFF_07 dems da brakes...

#7. Richmond Tigers – Daniel Garside / Height: 187cm / Weight: 84kg / DOB: 08/08/92
Club: St. Bedes Mentone Tigers

Daniel Garside is a dynamic medium defender who can play tall or small and even run through the midfield. Garside has a very strong athletic background in both sprinting and endurance but make no mistake this guy is a footballer and he plays it very well.

Daniel won the VAFA rising star award that was previously awarded to Dan Nicholson the year he was rookied to the Demons. He is a very composed player who disciplined when shutting down an opponent, strong over the ball and his spoiling and second efforts are very good. With elite kicking skills, good decision-making, run and carry Garside will offer a lot offensively to his team.

Leadership qualities and character are also a strength of Daniels having captained the U19 VAFA representative team and deputy vice caption of the St.Bedes Mentone Tigers.

In my mind Garside fits Richmonds current recruiting principles perfectly, and would be a great contributor to our team as a replacement for Kelvin Moore who has massive question marks over his body being able to get right again

I wouldnt be so sure on 'offering a lot offensively', he reminds of Alan Toovey, worries about his opponent first, worries about his opponent second and if he happens to be in a good position to get the ball then he can be a real weapon offensively.

He does not get much of the ball (averaged only 11 possessions a game - from what I am told by St.Bede's people), and whilst he does play tall, he seems to be better suited to the smaller talls/smalls (such was his demolition on Carl Peterson - former Hawk, during the season).

If Essendon do recruit him, I really, really hope we can getting him with the ball in his hands more as he has a weapon kick on him, talking 50+ lazer passes.

He does have a junior record in sprinting, but not sure where you got your information (RE; endurance?).

And I think Garside will be a perfect replacement for when Deledio moves back into the midfield (where he rightfully belongs).

You definitely are the expert when it comes to all things Garside HFF thanks for the input.

I probably should not have used the words "a lot" but the point I was trying to get across is that he won't get lost in teams forward thrusts from defense compared to say a Thursfield etc as he is more than handy with ball in hand.

Well it's been over 3 hours since a pick, so lets see...

Pick # 14 Carlton - Steven Verrier (188cm midfielder - South Fremantle)

A nice prospect, good size and a nice turn of speed too. Not unlike Kane Lucas. This pick came down to him or Jordan Wilson, thought Carlton might appreciate the added size of Verrier.

Pick # 15 West Coast - Alroy Gilligan (177cm forward - Claremont)

Royal Eagle no doubt pleases a lot of West Coast supporters with this pick. The 21 year old Gilligan has been in fine form this year in the WAFL.

Pick # 16 Hawthorn - Brody Mihocek (191cm defender - Burnie)

A bargain buy really considering he was named U18 All Australian this year. Can play down back or up forward.

Pick # 17 Collingwood - Haiden Schloithe (183cm forward - South Fremantle)

Another that I don't rate as highly as others. Probably the best defensive forward in the draft pool though.

Thats ok buddy :thumbsu:

Wonder if I hadnt done the Chris25 special and put up a video and brought him to everyone's attention on here, kept it to myself and just told Adrian Dodoro (Essendon list manager) that so many other clubs are 'reportedly', 'into him'.

He certainly wont get lost, very disciplined is Daniel, as I mentioned, he could release a Deledio or a Houli into the midfield.

Like I said on the main D and T board, a Geelong supporter posted a rumor on our board back in October that the Tigers were in talks with Garside about a rookie spot and that's really what sparked my interest in him.

It's pretty cool and a bit funny in a way that you recommended him to Dodoro and now he's training with you guys. Was he interested before you spoke with him?

Chalwell do anything this year? :p:D

What about Jordan "the next Rioli" Eades? What's he been doing since his epic Youtube vid?

The way Dodoro was talking, he hadnt heard of him before, let alone seen him. I passed on some notes I had taken from his games I saw so perhaps I can claim to helping get him on the map :D

Don't worry about the Geelong poster, Snoop Dog wants in on the act, 'with the (whoever it was) connection, dont be surprised to see him at Collingwood' :D:D We love you snoop, but he is mine I tell y'all, MINE..
