We offered him a contract which the base payments were less than his previous contract but with incentives he could have earned more. He had not really performed at a level that was commensurate with what he had been paid. He walked out Geelong offered him what he was looking for but if I recall they had to trade someone to Melbourne to satisfy us with picks. Geelong at that time had a lot of young kids there were some rumblings of discontent but in the end it all worked out for them.
The fact that we wasted those picks is a different story as well.

I'm gonna be mad if we cave in here, we've offered 37 that's fair we are in a position of power his nominated us we want him and we have the psd option, offer what's fair and don't move on it

i could see Edwards for Maric happening. Edwards has his moments but he is very unreliable and erratic - his type are a dime a dozen also
If we rate Maric as any sort of half decent ruckman, then he should be worth Edwards. If he is a ruckman that ISNT worth Edwards, then we don't want him
really we should just be pushing for the PSD or something insanely cheap because of marics contract situation - but thats not Richmonds game these days - we like to trade.

not unless he can force one of them out or they cop injuries or lack of fom this is the sort of depth/quality combined you need to be top 4. if griffiths cant get a regular game and wants to leave we trade him for a very good draft pick.
this is what its all about. on top of this id have at least another two young kpfs in early development ie rookie late nd picks.
always have cover and keep developing even if you have the bases covered with mature players.

I could see a late pick upgrade as well.
Players built like him that can do the inside work he does are not a dime a dozen, but those that eff up their kicking the way does are.... in the lower leagues anyway.
did you really think we could do much else. we have nothing of value to offer well nothing of value that we can afford to lose as players go.
the only other realistic option we had was offering up our best picks, surely noone wants to see that happen.
yet we keep on signing him up for more than a yr and cant even delist a clearly disgruntled player. its the same with mcguane and the way they have gone after maric graham cannot be highly rated either yet hes okay till 2013.
not a lot gets said about this side of things.

Apparently Edwards has been asked for but it has been stated by the club that he is a required player.
no way would I do that. Rance finally shows he is going to be what we hoped he would be and we let him go??? No way known.
why would wce even look at rance.
glass yep hes getting on but has two or three yrs at least left, mackenzie and schofield. id take all three over alex thanks. throw in mitch brown coming off a knee and a couple of rookies and they have no need for rance.
our picks arent high enough and the majority of players arent good enough.
I pretty much agree, but Geelong dont like to trade player they rate and they jump up and down a bit more like they have with gillies. Mumford and Laidler are the two that come to mind that they made strong attempts to keep them similar to Gillies

Brown and MacKenzie... maybe, although Brown still hasn't had a season as good as Rance, obviously. But Schofield, will never be as good as Rance imo Santa. Actually, he's pretty damn ordinary all up. Last year, he was atrocious, when forced to play a similar role to what Rance is doing reasonably well now.
I know you have a lot of hate for Rance, but rating Schofield over him... well that's just showing your hand (hatred)
WCE would swap a home grown Rance for say a top 20 pick, in a heartbeat
Seeing as we seem to have our hearts set on trading pick 37 for Maric, unless a player swap evolves, which I doubt... does anyone have a clue who we might have in our sights for the PSD (if anyone)?
Doesnt suprise me, I actually rate Edwards and am sure the club does as well.
Edwards has some brain farts with his decision making sometimes and rushes his disposal but with the team improvement in the coming years i can see him becoming a damaging mid/hf/winger
Still very young and will improve more but definately has talent.

Sorry for my absence, I've been very busy with other personal things.
1stly my mail on Ivan Maric being done by lunch time was incorrect and i take that, my source tells me it was all but done. But the Super deal that was scuttled by the AFL threw everything out of whack and sent crows back to the drawing board. But it was wrong and that's that.
2ndly
I'm told it will happen tomorrow but I'm not going to promise.
3rdly
Luke macguane will end up at either Suns or Lions
4thly
Thursfeild has had interest from Carlton & Sydney
5th
Goddard is almost done, 2 top in 10 picks and maybe picks 20
6)
If Goddard does not happen Foley is the next target pick 5 & 14 has been floated, foley has had a contract extention put to him a few weeks ago and has not been willing to sign at the surprise of RFC, fearing he has already been approached by GWS.
It's what I've been told so don't shoot the messenger, I like foley.
7) our efforts to secure Tim Mhor has failed.
8) solapeck & dan Stewart are still targets
9) there is a mid feilder we working on, Lucas & Stevens are still being considered the 2.
10) I'm also told that we are waiting till Monday ready to swoop on any deal that may fail with other clubs and players that clubs might need to offload cheaply just to releave cap pressure, but the club has a strict criteria on what type of player we take.
11) brock maclean has been put to us with the blues 1st pick in exchange for our 5th rounder or player with a low salary ie Connors or white, conditional we pick up his salary. We have declined there offer but would consider it if they got there pick under 20 or offered Lucas with him.ie Lucas & maclean for our pick 55 & player.
