Re: Maxwell = aaa grade!

You had 13 out. Davis, Didak, Harry O, Thomas, Pendlebury, Wood, N.Brown, Beams, Johnson, Swan, Shaw, Toovey and Leigh Brown.

We had Deledio, Cotchin, Martin, Cousins, Thomson, Foley, Moore, Nahas, Riewoldt and Newman out (that's 10), in addition to playing about 10 first or second gamers.

well i can tell u that thomson, foley, moore, nahas and riewold wouldnt get a game in our seniors and that list is laughable hahahaha

Jaxson Barham looks more composed now. One of the players who many will not take much notice of, but I liked him and the energy he gave.

Not best 22 yet, but he is getting there.

Medhurst and Sidebottom were very good today. Medhurst was without doubt the classiest player out there.

Dawes was woeful IMO.

Jaxson Barham has the old fumblitus. He is no where near the best 22. Looks lost IMO.

Agreed on all counts

on our mids I'd have barham ahead of Blair, Sinclair I really rate he'll push when he gets size

how weak did Dawes look in a marking duel against thursfield and mcguane? Just disappointing

I think he drives an electric car.

Just got back from scum park, was bloody humid and very "yucky" conditions.

I moved around throughout the match, but stayed mainly with our forward line, so I may have missed a little bit of the defensive matchups.

As we all know, we kicked terribly, especially early and in the last quarter, but at least we got our hands on the ball, and if we had of kicked straight, Richlol would have been embarrassed.

I'm open to questions, but I'll just give a run down on a few players;

* Nick Maxwell, BOG, brilliant across half back, even without Shaw, O'Brien, Toovey etc. Played on the human tiprat in Jake King, and killed him. Time and time again in the first 3 quarters he marked strongly, no problems with our captain.

* Paul Medhurst, was the creationist of the forward line, controlled everything, and set up a lot of scoring opportunities.

* John McCarthy; Our forward pocket, who can play on ball. Kicked the best 2 goals of the match, and almost kicked a snap from the pocket, which hit the post. Brilliant, skillful and poised, stay fit please.

* Jack Anthony; Was trying to take mark of the year all match, but played well, could have kicked 4, but beat a tough opponent in Thursfield.

* Ben Sinclair, Ben Johnson Jr this kid is, fast, flair, and not afraid to go into packs. Looked very good early, faded a bit late.

* Jolly and Fraser; Putting these together because they are our ruck combo, no doubts, even if Wood was fit. Both spent plenty of time up forward too, and looked good in patches.

* Chris Dawes; pretty ordinary, his best work was done when we didn't have the ball, tackling, chasing etc. Still can't or won't mark over head.

* Luke Ball, Our best mid, was very good in tight, and set up some shots from around 50 too. Progressing very well.

* Ben Reid, Played on Morton in patches, and got beat, but showed some attack out of the backline. Not a true key defender yet, but is promising.

* Prestigiacomo; Was Presti, wasn't beaten one on one all day, rest him next week, and he'll be right for Barry Hall.

Was a good performance considering the players we had out, the team took a while to get going, but once it did we dominated the 1st and 2nd quarters. The less said about the second half the better, we almost played like Richmond.

Ask me about others, I'm going on memory here, no notes.:)

good synopsis....Medders was cramping horribly in the last quarter - Sinclair got a knock to his leg early in the second half but I was very impressed with him again...

Dawes was disappointing given he needs to take these opportunities especially against this opposition

Wellingham's pre season has been excellent and jmac looked like he belonged again today...

so we do have some selection dilemmas for round one

finally, I would like to see L. Brown or Cloke at full forward. My worry with our key forwards including Jack is they are essentially flankers. Still not convinced about our forward structure.

overall we did come back to their level in the second half but who knows what game plans and changes were being tried - at the end of the day it was a practice match against a scratch side.

I think he drives an electric car.

I would have said barina or Clio or swift some small hatch with make up mirrors

Not smug enough for a hybrid

He was very disappointing to say the least.

Sinclair was very good.

Also I was sitting next to a few of the younger players and they were totally ripping on Ben Nason after his knee incident a few weeks back. It was pretty funny.

They were ripping on Jarryd Blair a lot too lol, but in the mateship way.

Jack Carter is Way Better then Thoolen

Did not play much this afternoon but did look good. Stays on his man and great timing for Spoill and Is no Plodder.

Worth Watching down at Victoria Park;)

oh one more thing Barhams intensity and speed is first rate....again, his disposal is still frustrating...and unpredictable.

On Chris Dawes, the sevice to him was absolutely shocking and he constantly had 2-3 defenders at every contest he hit. His second efforts were outstanding, so i give him the thumbs up.
Also my man Benny SIncliar was very good but faded late which was understandable.

Anyway onto the highlight of the day, who saw the near fight after the game????

Pretty much after the brawl in which that little rat King got mauled by Cloke, he ran off to the applause of the Richmond faithful (shows how desperate they are). Anyway as he was lapping it up a fellow pie supporter called him a dog which is quite understandable lol, little did he know that King's whole bogan family was right there, this made them very very angry, tempers were rising. Anyway as the match ended words were banded around by the bloke who called King a dog and another supporter. King's dad thought he would be a hero and start on the bloke who called his son a dog. Now it gets better, sitting right there was the big fella, David Cloke. Big Cloke stuck up for this supporter copping it from King's dad, King's dad then mentioned Trav Cloke, I didn't hear exactly what he said, It was enough to make Big David go mental, he had to be restrained by 3 people or else Jake King's dad would've got his head knocked off :). A scuffle broke out but nothing serious, but bookmark this, next time we play Richmond Cloke vs King is ON!!!!

Haha, heard the noise, but I was on the other side of the ground.

You don't want to get in between David Cloke and his boys, he will literally rip your head off.

I would have been laughing if I was on that side of the ground, love when stuff like this happens at the footy, and it all blows over.

King was a little annoyance again, at one point he roughed up one of our youngsters, and it was almost on, and then he hit Trav later on after he ahd got rid of the ball, and it was almost on again.

Too bad King won't be playing next time we play the Tigers, oh wait, yes he will, they will be tanking by then.

WOW! That would have been a sight to behold. Imagine if big David just let rip, he'd knock old man King in to next year!!!

Re: Jack Carter is Way Better then Thoolen

Donald Bradman was also better than Marcus North.
That's not true, I heard North is a great Ten Pin Bowler, while DB sucked at it.:p:p

As for the Carter/Thoolen comparison, next time Dave, pick someone better to compare too, it's like comparing Dawes to Billy Morrison, oops, better not go there.

ONFIELD FOOTNOTE: The rats treatment of caff behind the play brought Clokey into a pack to defend, then following the kingrat and Cloke clash, cloke was left showing the timid emergency umpire his eye - after the game clokes eye was like a prize fighters...the little rat was taken off and gloating as he left the field. Anyway thanks for the update on the aftermath we watched from a distance.

For those who weren't there - how bad were Richmond - well, they made Corrie look like a good polished footballer - lol

I saw this from a far! i cant wait for king to get mauled. i have reserved seats to that game! :p haha king could actually find his head on the floor

oh one more thing Barhams intensity and speed is first rate....again, his disposal is still frustrating...and unpredictable.

Correct. His speed agility and attack on the ball is phenomenal. One thing that I did notice today was that he seemed to fumble the ball a fair bit. Is this something that anyone else has noticed?

As for the rest of them, Maxwell was clearly sensation and I thought ball was also brilliant in the first half particularly.

Corrie was pretty good, but still won't make it as a regular.

J-Mac just looked like a player.

I know he shanked a few kicks, but Wellingham showed why he's going to play most of the season and have a pretty good impact today. His intensity was great, he got himself in the right positions and his acceleration away from the contest after it was fed out to him by ball and the likes was sensational. he lacked the execution on a couple of occassions, but he is just the player we need.

Dawes - Didn't do a lot but was also butchered by the service he got. He got himself in to good positions a few times only to have his teammate kick it over his head, kick it with a nine iron or spray it to the side. I don't think it's fair to judge him either way from today. His tackling/defensive pressure was very good though.

Re: Jack Carter is Way Better then Thoolen

Poor old Tobias is still copping it.

Re: Maxwell = aaa grade!

Why were you surprised to beat us? We had a much less experienced side than you did, and that's saying something. The only people in the side that would have played more than 50 games were Simmonds, Tuck, McMahon and Polak.

We would have only had 4 or so more players over 50 games.
