Geelong haven't sacked a head coach since 1988

Interesting point is that all 4 Geelong coaches since 1989 made at least 1 Grand Final, and 3 of them made 3 Grand finals.

Who is your favourite player from a different team?

Used to be Lenny Hayes, how could one not admire this guy? Now might have to be Chad Warner. Absolute gun, and bonus that he was a Cats supporter 😁. Also like Touk Miller. Great player and very humble.

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

That 1897 is the year when Premierships started to he counted for the VFL/AFL. In reality, Premierships back until the 1870s used to be included in club's official tallies. That was until some time in the 1930s/40s, when the historical revisionists came along and changed the start date to what...

We don't even know the facts yet geez.

    News Clarko in strife again

It certainly has been. I'm sure it's not the only factor, but the racism saga seems to have affected him very deeply.

    News Clarko in strife again

Do we even know the facts yet? If he swore at an official, he should be reprimanded. But if he just swore out of frustration, I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Maybe another please explain.

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Yep, the real competition started in 1961

    Geelong have done it..

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

May be a tad of bias seeping through, but I think there is an over emphasis in AFL circles placed on the importance of teams winning multiple Premierships in a row (as opposed to winning them with gaps in between). I.e., when people say things to the effect that Geelong didn’t win back to back...

My favourite too. Like a power metal anthem.

Worst Coach your club has ever had?

Since I've been watching Gary Ayres. Blight, Thompson and Scott all extremely good. Blight my favourite of the lot. Very unfortunate not to get a flag. Just came up against some ultra tough opposition.

Scott Pendlebury - Standing in the game?

Still behind a few others like Fyfe, Danger and Dusty on pure playing ability, but if we take his entire resume into account and also consider factors such as leadership, he is right at the top in my eyes and probably even pips Selwood despite obviously having less flags. He certainly has...

Opinion Sydney Swans Academy and Rebuild

Seems weird how Nick Blakey was an academy product, when his father played over 350 games for 2 clubs. According to Wikipedia, he did AusKick and played junior football too. I thought academies were meant to be for players from non-traditional backgrounds. I.e. Did not play the game until...

Carlton are the one to watch out for - They can win The Premiership

I'm not writing them off, but they need to be careful not to drop more than 1 of their next 4 against GC, Port, Essendon and Geelong. It's a real season defining stretch, which they are right in the middle of. If they win all 4, (as I think they should), they should be well entrenched in the...

Which current president do you dislike the most?

Andrew Bassat has a whiny annoying voice so I'll go him. At least half I have absolutely no idea who they actually are.
  16. rapidfire7

Carlton - where are they at?

They are probably still the second best team in it when up and going. May be the best talentwise when they get everyone back on the park. Having said that, they can't afford to drop many more in this difficult stretch they are in.

Not underrated, but overlooked. Who and why?

Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't seem to come up as often as I think he should when discussing great midfielders of the 80s and 90s. One of my all time favourite opposition players and had the pleasure of meeting him too.. at the ice skating rink of all places. Top guy and absolute beast on...

Not underrated, but overlooked. Who and why?

    Craig Bradley and Brett Ratten.

    Most disappointing, underachieving lists ever?

Cats from '89 - '97. 4 Grand finals in 7 years without a premiership. A number of other heartbreaking finishes too. This period still haunts me. Don't think I'll ever quite get over it no matter happens in the future. Collingwood 1977 - 1981. 4 Grand Finals (5 if you count the replay in 1977...

How do you rate David Koch's tenure as Port president?

Some may laugh, but both he and Ken have provided much needed stability for a club that was on the brink before they arrived, and together, they have reignited the passion from within. Kochie may not overseen a Premiership (to date), but I don't think anyone can question his commitment to the...

Geelong and Sydney - can anyone stop them?

No way this is only a two horse race. Sydney look a level above right now, as did GWS a month ago, and to a lesser extent Geelong. So much more to unfold. I also put Collingwood, Melbourne and Carlton as other teams right in the mix who could win the flag and could 'stop" the 2 mentioned. Need...

Why did Franklin never get close to kicking 100+ again?

I've often thought of this too. As great a player as he was, he never quite recaptured his scintillating 2008 form, which had him on track of being one of the very greatest to have played. I remember thinking in 2009 that he wasn't half the player from the year before. My guess is that a...

Opinion Essendon v North? Rivalry or one sided rivalry?

I think you are right how you perceive it, and I would somewhat compare it to the Collingwood-Geelong rivalry. It's an important rivalry for Geelong (probably the biggest after the Hawks), but Collingwood have much bigger rivalries against Carlron, Essendon, Richmond and traditionally, even...

    Coach Richmond under Adem Yze

Let's face it, Richmond's reckless list strategy has backfired big tme. Add to that the enormous injury list they are dealing with, and we are just not gonna see much from them this year. Yze is on a hiding to nothing at the moment.

How scared are you of St Kilda this year?

Is that season over for the Saints? Must be just about. Will have to come back a little scarier next year, and no more cuddly Ross.

Can Port win a premiership under Ken Hinkley?

They came with a plan and executed it perfectly last night. It was pretty amazing that first half. Geelong were shell shocked. One of the most under-appreciated coaches out there. If Port sack him, mark my words he will be back at Geelong and will teach Scotty a thing or two. Whether as a senior...
