List Records & Bests - Highest Score (ex-fp discussion)

Saw a photo of the scoreboard, seems to be legit. Apparently in Div 6. I think they have divs going down to somewhere around 10 or more. Clubs had teams wherever they fit, if they have many players they might player a sr club in a higher div and another sr one lower. Unsure if this is the...

Research Data gaps + big projects

Yes for sure, I was thinking that as I typed before. In terms of footy, the Covid epidemic was close to as big a shakeup as the wars. Some odd anomalies: the depression in some ways ADDED footy. Folks couldn't afford to travel much so tinier leagues appeared sometimes in places where there were...

The influenza epidemic and the great depression also had their effects. I'd never thought to factor in Vietnam War, and was probably forgetful about the Boer War era too. Interesting thoughts!

    List Clubs named after workplaces

Indies were using the ground in 1929 (Vic Brewery, Carlton Brewery, Havelock - 3 teams of 7) along with predominantly Port Melbourne's ground, just after all those shenanigans mentioned above, removing facilities. The comp was operating as early as 1927 so there might have been some crossover...

    List Clubs named after workplaces

Yeah I'm not sure why you keep trying to tell me where that ground is ... I said I knew it (I've watched footy there). My query is why they chose to use such a comparatively small ground when the other games were being held at larger venues. And my suspicion is that the ground must have had...

I know Citizens Park, but I'm flabbergasted Carlton played a game there in the past! I am not sure if it's meant to be the same venue as Richmond City Reserve. Unless VFA Richmond were playing there regularly. Hello old friend! :D

    List Clubs named after workplaces

Just been doing an allnighter on Trove and apparently there were two of them! A Wednesday Industrial league and a Saturday Morning Industrial league. These clubs you mentioned, at least Dunlop and Laygols, were in the Saturday comp. Both won flags. And yeah they seemed to play on serious venues...

I haven't really been able to find the personal time to maintain these lists but at least it all has somewhere to go. Maybe if can get off my lazy butt I can try to integrate the additions sometime soon. I'm redirecting a similar thread's recent inputters from Regional Leagues board to here...

Esher? Not aware of any team by that name in 1992. Tell me more! Edit: Nevermind. It was Earl's Court. Had a short-lived name change.

    Query Smallest football town

No, my Dad used to go fishing up there with his mates, sometimes I'd go with them. Had been there a few times on fishing trips, and also did a camping trip with the missus once in the same region. I came from down wimmera way at the time.

Article Fitzroy's Long Slow Death (AFL.com.au)

Yeah it does cross my mind that Fitzroy Reds, in the eyes of a fundamentalist Redders purist, actually lost their club. When it comes to footy, I respect fundamentalism, so I feel for them. However, so much of the two entities are/were running almost at a parallel already, that the upheaval...

Article Fitzroy's Long Slow Death (AFL.com.au)

The club was in D1 Grade and did not restart in D4 (promoted to C Grade at end of that season). This was most likely due to the player list being the same for Fitzroy FC (incorp. Fitzroy Reds) as it was for Fitzroy Reds FC. From memory, when Parkdale and Mentone Amateurs merged, the same...

Shut up AFL, c'arn the Roys etc etc etc ... Ok so further to the above, VAFA media actually tipped us to win B Grade this season, just a short few weeks ago on the back of our draw with (then-) first-placed Beauey. Personally I think that's possibly a little too optimistic, but I see a 3rd...

Query Where was "Railways Oval" - West Adelaide's home ground 1935-37

Nice, actually the thread shows Old Ignatians as the Railways Oval tenant. That's where I had them, too, but my grounds details isn't indexed so I didn't realise til I saw that. I think Adelaide Plains was a reference to the next league he was going to ask for help with, actually.
