    County Championship 2024

An even longer day (actually days) when you consider the fact that Middlesex won the toss. Northeast, who already has a f-c quadruple century under his belt, now holds the f-c record for Lords - surpassing Gooch's 333 against India.

Shield The Final: Western Australia vs Tasmania, The WACA, 21-25 March

Well done Western Australia, far too good. I'm shattered at how poor we were, but that doesn't detract from WA's domination from the start of the game. I hope that Tasmanian cricket can one day emulate what WA cricket is currently achieving.

Calling them soft is being generous.

Shield The Final: Western Australia vs Tasmania, The WACA, 21-25 March

It was all too hard for him to show a bit of pride and spine - Shield player of the Year or not. Same with Jewell and Wade. At the very least I expected them to come out in the second innings and make WA work for the victory.

Shield The Final: Western Australia vs Tasmania, The WACA, 21-25 March

I've followed Tasmanian cricket since before the Shield days - I go back to 71-72. This is the first time that I'm genuinely embarrassed to say I support them. As good as WA have been, we've been disgraceful.

Shield The Final: Western Australia vs Tasmania, The WACA, 21-25 March

It goes back prior to the 80s. Gary Sobers played for SA in the early 60s for instance. Victoria is the only state that hasn't had an international import play for them to the best of my knowledge.

Bloody Jewell, the third ball of the day he goes for the big drive and gets caught in the slips. He is proving to be such a disappointment. Here are his scores for the Shield season. 87, 0, 0, 27, 2, 22, 6, 1, 4, DNB, 20, 4, 37, 9, 5, 227, 40, 1, 0, 11

Shield Tasmania Tigers vs South Australia Redbacks - Bellerive Oval - 11-14 March (Round 10)

6/66 - five alleged batsmen gone, plus the nightwatchperson Bell. Inept batting performance for a side which is eyeing off the Shield.

Our useless top order batting strikes again, including yet another failure for Jewell.

If he's concussed (which you would think is a distinct possibility) a sub can come in can't he?

It was a decent whack too, he took it flush on the cheek (?)? He was down for a fair while getting assistance before he eventually walked off.

Jesus no, Pucovski has been hit in the head again.

Shield Round 8: Tasmania vs Victoria, Bellerive Oval, 1-4 March

The pitch has flattened out, you would think Victoria would do it easily given this start. All they have to do is bat sensibly and take no risks.

Shield Round 8: Tasmania vs Victoria, Bellerive Oval, 1-4 March

    A bit more info on that partnership. It was only Tassie's 5th all-time century 10th wicket partnership in f-c cricket. 153 - B Webster/R Meredith - Tas v Vic - Hobart 2023/24 *122 - W Ward/N Dodds - Tas v Vic - Hobart 1898/99 120 - S Saunders/P Clough - Tas v WA - Perth 1981/82 116 - R Soule/G...

Shield Round 8: Tasmania vs Victoria, Bellerive Oval, 1-4 March

By my reckoning, this is an all-time record for a 10th wicket partnership for Tasmania in first-class cricket. Previous record was: 122 - William Ward & Norman Dodds - vs Victoria, TCA Ground, 1898/99 Taking the score from 9/262 to 384 all out. Previous Sheffield Shield record was: 120 -...

Shield Round 8: Tasmania vs Victoria, Bellerive Oval, 1-4 March

Wtf happened here? I switched off with Victoria 1-40 odd, thinking they would quietly play time to stumps. I turn it back on and it is the number of the beast.

Congrats to the Tassie girls, third WNCL title in a row. Nicola Carey with a match winning 111 not out. Fantastic run of success.

    State Tasmanian Tigers

I thought the declaration was too conservative. I wanted a declaration last night, with a crack at WA before stumps. At a guess, Tassie may have been put off by how easy it was to bat on the track.

    State Tasmanian Tigers

Tassie 4-381, leads by 293. Jewell, dropped on 0, is 202 not out, his highest f-c score by some distance. Webster is 52 not out.

Western Australian State Cricket Team: Treble Winners. Again

Funny game cricket. Jewell scored 87 in his first Shield knock of the season. If he been caught for zero yesterday, he'd have scored 137 runs total in his subsequent 14 Shield innings at a sub-10 average. And his place on the side would have had to have been in question as a result. Instead...
