Ashes 3rd test @ The WACA

Nah there's another one different than that. Keeps going and going. Got it stuck in my head  If there's a member of the Barmy Army here, please put me out of my misery!

    The Nightwatchman Debate

The nightwatchman phenomenon has been around for ever. And my hypothesis is that it came about because of uncovered pitches and a desire to protect a batsmen overnight in the hope the pitch would get better the next day. I don't see a need for it in the modern game.

    Khawaja v Marsh

I just think Clarke is our best batsman at the moment and therefore should come in at 3. I'd have more confidence in our top order if he were there and I reckon the collapses would decrease. The reason I said he lacked balls to go there is because of the albeit unconfirmed reports that he...

    Khawaja v Marsh

I voted 'other'. I'd like Clarke to grow some balls and bat at 3, enabling Khawahja to be eased into test cricket down the order a bit. I'm not convinced on Marsh as a test cricketer. Watson preferably at 5 or 6 as a genuine all rounder. I certainly wouldn't put Watson in the same class as...

Ponting, Haddin, Johnson – time to go?

I too was thinking about these same three guys while watching last night. Johnson is there for his bowling and it's been woeful. Haddin offers no more than Paine IMO. And Punter is on the precipice - whether he falls into form or into the abyss I can't quite tell. I pretty much agree with...

    Another captains knock from Clarke

Certainly not his best innings, but he did contribute to win in some way by hanging around and ensuring wickets in hand. A greater criticsim of his innings IMO would be the decision to take the batting powerplay when he did. I would have kept it up the sleeve a little longer.

Time to review our policy of always batting first?

When we were crap in the 80s the general feeling was that because we couldn't take 20 wickets, we may as well bowl first to give us the best chance of doing just that. I can't remember if we put that into action or not, but I believe it has some merit. With our current bowling set up being...

    Wasted Talent

Ahhhhh so that's where he is then. I hope he does well.

    Wasted Talent

Yes. It is.:( Another is Theo Doropoulos. Made crazy amounts of runs (and wickets) at a young age, but just couldn't put it together nor find any consistency at senior level. Dropped a catch as a substitute fieldsman in last Summer's Perth test. Now doesn't even have a playing contract for...

    Another captains knock from Clarke

Does anyone here think Clarke could open? Just throwing it out there.... Watson has to go down the order (No. 4) so we can utilise his bowling more effectively. This will give him a chance to relax and thus turn those 50s into 100s. Clarke opening will make him concentrate a bit...

hey so it turns out MJ was rested not dropped.

Good point. Maybe there's someone playing Women's cricket who can bowl a bit of decent spin? A woman playing for Australia. Would that be bigger than a Warnie comeback?

    best 'part time' bowler

Agreed.:thumbsu: I spose it just depends on your definition of "part-timer". I was thinking of someone who could regularly bowl 7-10 overs in a one-dayer, not someone who is simply a partnership-breaker. North, Clarke, D Hussey are all batsmen who could all be relied upon to tidily bowl...

    best 'part time' bowler

I always thought of Carl Hooper as a part timer. But his stats would have to suggest he was a genuine all rounder. Lehmann was more consistent than M Waugh I reckon. A bit like his batting, Waugh had a tendency to fall asleep and dish up some crap in his usual laconic style, where Boof could...

    what a joke!

I went to all five days of the match and the one thing I will always remember about this match was Chris Gayle's innings. Sure, Ponting's injury and the Watson shenanigans was a standout, but that Chris Gayle innings was simply awesome and well deserving of MOTM honours. IMHO...
