I remember in the 90s the AFL would set up certain round to get the maximum crowd.
What combination of matches can smash the all time record of 371k Rnd 15 2013?
Let me know your best round - crowds must be based on historical numbers, with a small allowance for a boosted crowd (I.e Flag...
The effect of expansion to 18 teams is really starting to show in the lack of depth at most clubs and overall standard of players and play.
Take Hawthorn as an example. We are so, so much worse than last year, in terms of the quality of players in our team, yet are still on top and flag...
24 rounds.
18 with 8 games - one bye.
6 with 9 games (rnds 1, 2, Easter, Anzac, QB & 24).
The two teams that have they bye play the following Thursday night.
Will help cut down 5/6 day breaks.
8 games is enough to feel like a full weekend of footy - if you have the bye the Thursday night will...
Since the Crows entered the comp, Hawks have payed more finals v non - Victorian teams than Vic teams. Given there were 4 - 6 non Vics for most of this time and 9 Vics, this is surprising.
v Non - Vics
6 Swans - (96QF, 01EF, 11SF, 12GF, 13QF, 14GF)
3 Eagles (91QF, 91GF, 92QF)
3 Crows (93QF...
Watching The Winners Rebooted on Fox, I have been noticing lots of anomolies from the 1980s.
Last night's match was Cats v North from 1985. North had normal jumper with white shirts.
Cats hoops & navy shorts.
Most Cats players had six hoops (including one across shoulders)
Bews and a 3 - 4...
With an away final v WCE now looking likely, who is looking forward to seeing the shiny white number in the finals?
(unless WCE agree to wear their royal blue 'Wings' away jumper, we will likely be in the all white).
How do we feel about this?
Seriously, how good does our away jumper look with brown shorts.
We look tougher, meaner and it will provide a better contrast v most clubs.
It needs to be our home kit.
That way, we have a light (gold with brown) away jumper which will mean we can avoid most away clashes that currently...
Footy is all about finals.
The Norm Smith is great but there are eight other finals.
They should award the best finals player a medal.
It does not have to be a GF player, if someone is BOG in three finals they might deserve it.
Who has been the best finals player in recent seasons?
2014 -...
Got good seats just now for our four designate away games, but can;t work out how to access my free reserved seat for home game v Port (Gold member).
Any clues?
Last night Hawthorn played 24 players against the Pies who had the full 26.
As part of equalisation, they should do this in the season proper.
E.g. As Premiers, we could have three on the bench to play other top 8 sides.
Two v middles sides and one v bottom 4.
(and maybe just a sub v Carlton).

Having trouble downloading, but can report that unlike last year no home games clash with Hawthorn.
Eight home games v the old VFA clubs but only Richmond of the AFL reserves sides (no Dogs...
I don't want this to be a long argument over who should be in the team, but how do you reckon our U28 team would go in 2015 if all of Mitch, Burger, Hale, Lake, Gibbo, Hodge & Sewell retired this year?
(I know that won't happen - it is a hypothetical)
FB - Duryea Shoe Lithers
HB - Stratts Spang...
For 60 years it was black short home, white shorts away. then 40 years ago we got rid of the black shorts rule, now time to remove the white shorts rule.
Given that 10 teams have some white in their jumper, and six clubs significant white, surely white is the last colour to use for shorts and...
Given our desperate need for a key defender since Trend Croad hobbled off in the 2008 GF, it is hard to believe that we do not have a single young FB/CHB on our list.
Have we even tried? I cannot remember us drafting one since then.
Shoe was drafted as a forward, Stratts, Lithers, etc all...
IF we make it of course...
Out 'best team' is constantly changing.
Though we could post here time to time (every few weeks) our best team should everyone be fit. Will assume WhiteX still out.

At least tickets will be easy to get.
Not sure if I missed the thread elsewhere, but the four 'A Reserve' matches are Easter Monday, Anzac Day, first Pies v Blues & Dreamtime.

Prices basically doubled for these matches.
I reckon it will keep a few away - there is no GA, which will test a...
Interesting.
How good would Aussie Rules be if Sydney had gone with our game?
Qld would have followed and we would have a truly national code.
That would have double the pool of played and the standard would be awesome (assuming the game went national).
4 teams in Melb/Syd
2 in Perth/Adel/Bris...
I know the AFL wants to bring the top teams down and the bottom teams up, but why do we accept this? Surely the finals are better of the best teams have the best chance to finish high up.
Or at least en equal chance?
Is there any other sport in the world that makes it harder for the top seed?
In...
More Freo members have applied for tickets than are available, so they will fill their quote of 15K or so tickets (there are around 3K more tickets available to club members compared to WCE GFs).
AD mentioned on TF that is was not possible to transport this many people from Perth to Melbourne...
Lake, Mitch, Goo, Burger, Hodge, Sewell, Hale & Gibbo.
Ossie will retire.
Here is a team without any of them.

I remember doing this on 2006 and I knew we had a great future as the U25s was much stronger than the oldies.
Not so sure now.

1. It will help our mindset. We go better as underdog (so does everyone).Cannot handle the pressure of being expected to win big matches.
2. The Pies will finish 6 - 7 so if they can make it through to the Premil they can knock off the Cats for us.
Current record is 367,974. Round 22, 1998
Pies V Blues 78K
Hawks V Cats 85K
Lions V Suns 27K
Giants V Dogs 7K
Roos v Tiges 47K
Crows v Eagles 27K
That's over 269k already.
So...
Dockers v Saints 38K
Dons v Power 38K
Dees v Swans 23K
Breaks the record
Should be achievable.
