Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

No no, we've already moved on from that - Burgess was going to ruin us had he stayed any longer, and he was also going to be responsible for developing the microchip that lead to the creation of Cyberdyne Systems and the rise of the machines. Fortunately, Bluelegs was sent back from the future...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Oh man. Just when I thought we were making progress. Lol ok, my arguments are shoddy but you can predict the outcome of imaginary future scenarios. Cool. Have a good one.

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Did we not have any injuries, or was Burgess just great at managing the balance? Rhetorical of course, you wouldn't know. Which makes your argument just as "shoddy".

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Read the whole comment again mate. Just for you, because despite arguments, I think you're a reasonable bloke: Goodwin likes to push players hard in terms of injuries and coming back from them. Burgess seems to be an absolute gun at balancing that philosophy. Selwyn doesn't seem to be as good...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Post the whole comments mate. You're doing it again. The first one was about Clarry, and about not managing that resilience stuff and bringing players back too soon - As I mentioned, something Burgess was great at. The second one shows you're still missing the point. Not sure how much simpler...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Kingy breaks down the game style change stuff. Worth a listen. It's gaining momentum now that our game style and midfield are the big issues this year. "You've got hard, gilt edge players trying to play the beautiful game, and it's failing them."

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Personally I blame Tom Sparrow for everything.

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

I didn't say he manages injuries better. Again, you're either not understanding what I'm saying or you're being deliberately misleading. The point is this: Pretty obviously Goodwin likes to push players. This is evidenced not only by his team selections, but by his blowup at Dr Arain...

Lol yes McAdam has really proved him wrong since then hey...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

I don't know, are they? I'm talking about the ability to manage injuries and no when and how hard to push, that's the area I personally think Burgess seems to be better at than anyone else in the league. You're not surely suggesting Selwyn has nailed it? Haven't you bemoaned our injury...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Burgess was obviously better at managing the balance though, this is why he's the most sought after fitness guy in the league. Has Selwyn been head hunted yet? Come on mate, I've already stated there's no excuses for Oliver, nowhere did I say having a bung shoulder means it's ok for him to be...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

The thing is though - We've brought in this different game style with less focus on clearance, more patience and skill required, and that is absolutely not Oliver's go so we would have been far better off getting him back to peak running ability before playing him. Agree there's a balance there...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Definitely not giving him an out, just mentioning that on top of his self-inflicted issues there was also legitimate injury stuff too and IMO the club have handled this stuff poorly since Burgess left and they're doing it again as this season rolls on. The small amount of contact hours is a big...

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Clubs only get a very very small amount of 'contact hours' these days so there would be a big difference between doing all fitness based training and doing rehab, skills, tactics etc I reckon. Plus, during the season so much more of the time would be spent of recovery, so if you don't get that...

This look a bit like a Taliban execution video to anyone else?

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Yze was very much our 'tactics guy' and had a lot more say than you would think of an assistant. I wonder if McQualter is the same and it's not working out?

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Thought it was interesting that Goody spoke about our problems going on all season. Surely that then points back at the coaching group and the game plan/style?

Player Watch #32: Tom Sparrow – in until 2026

Gawn, Oliver, Viney & Petracca smashed. Backline turn it over for 7+ goals. BF: HoW CouLd SpArRoW Do ThIs?!

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Yep, agreed on that, and history says it doesn't work if the coach isn't at least 100% on board.

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

And the point of my reply to that was to say I could very much say him doing that...

Not if it's the coach's idea or want.

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

I 100% do see Goody being that guy. With everything he's copped the last few years and seeing the type of person he is, I could totally see him planning a steady departure.

Analysis The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time...to dig into the why

Wouldn't be shocked to see the club look at a succession plan perhaps end of this season. Bring someone in as an assistant next year, then in 2026 they run game days, then full take over from 2027.

    Preview Changes/Preview – Round 13 vs. Collingwood

Might be to you perhaps, I get different people use different terms, but I personally go more with the statistical interpretation of the difference between say a 'contested possession' and a 'ground ball get'.

    Preview Changes/Preview – Round 13 vs. Collingwood

I don't think one player is responsible for us going from 4th to 11th for clearance differential. And that's before today's stats are added into the mix. He's our number 2 clearance winner, behind Gawn, this year. So he's dropped 1 spot.
  27. Lord Nev

    Preview Changes/Preview – Round 13 vs. Collingwood

We've been bad at ground balls for years. The clearance stuff is pretty clearly part of the current game style. You don't have the massive change we have had without it being a coaching directive.

    Preview Changes/Preview – Round 13 vs. Collingwood

I usually try and guess what WILL happen, but I'm rolling with what I would do this week... OUT: Hunter (inj), McAdam, Turner, Petty, Chandler IN: Howes, Sestan, Tholstrup, AMW, JVR TMac to stay forward, can do some backup ruck with JVR. Howes and AMW to try and make our backline more mobile...
