Pretty happy about getting on George Wardlaw at $12, tbh. There's always a chance someone gets injured or suspended, it was crazy Reid was that short so early in the season.
Last year they were 16th and had a percentage they'd not seen since the Peter Schwab days. And this year, the highest ranked team they've beaten is in 13th.
No doubt they were into him from the start, but there was considerable uncertainty about the future of David Noble in the early months of that season, and there was uncertainty about whether we would get Clarkson right up until it was announced. Of course it "was a contributing factor".
And...
Just a guess but I think teams can still make changes to their squads for any reason, so allowing reserve players gives them an opportunity to make last-minute changes based solely on form rather than for injuries, which is what they really want them to be for.
It's less about hurting their feelings and more about the message it sends to emerging players.
In the past few years, we've delisted players - not even offered for trade, just flat-out delisted players - who were in the best 22. We've turfed club legends on short notice and without a proper...
Fun fact: Oppo supporters dropping by and saying "Hur hur, our club is shit, you'll surely win your first game against us" is a well-known meme on our board.
Saying to current players that the club thinks none of them are worthy of leadership would be one of the most damaging things we had done for many, many years.
I'm not saying don't try. But the approach you suggest is akin to a house of cards. Tell them all that all of the others are interested, and as soon as one re-signs with their existing club, the others all back out.
If we're paying big dollars to people, it should be to our existing players...
We will likely get none of those players, maybe one if we are lucky. It's not about money. It's that the vast majority of people don't want to go to a club where they are likely to lose more games than they win.
Just having Americans with an understanding that cricket exists in their country and that it is accessible to them in most of the country would be enough.
It doesn't have to be a big sport, and I don't think anyone is kidding themselves that it will even get to soccer's level.
But if a kid...
The fact that the AFL's explainer page on free agency shows a picture of Tom Lynch playing in a grand final is about all the proof you'll need that it's nothing to do with equalisation.
