Great news for the club to sign Lokan for another year. The improvement has been apparent this year and the game plan is really starting to take shape. Hopefully we can continue this current form through the remainder of this season and into next.

Great news that the Tigers have re-signed Kade for a further 12 months.
He has done a remarkable job and the help he receives off field lets him concentrate on playing on game day.

Excellent news for the Tigers, the clubs window for success appears opened and this appointment will only strengthen their position beyond 2012.

Amazing what this group has achieved thus far this season.

From 4 wins to top 2 within 12 months.

Congrats to all involved at Tigerland!

ABH, your team sure looked the goods at Henson on Saturday; I thought that Syd Uni actually went ok but they were no match.
I gather that the team is more or less the same playing group as last year, with some handy recruits, and I can see that it's quite remarkable what has been achieved this year.
They play with passion and great discipline too. When Uni brought in a bit of niggle in the third quarter, Qbn stuck to the plan and didn't get sucked in. Mitch Daniher caught my eye as a stand-out.

Possibly a couple of weak links as you all no doubt realise, and that could hurt bigtime when Qbn faces the Swans reserves in the finals. But, hey, anything might happen in finals and your guys will deserve to be there.

Great effort by The tigers! Also think a mention should go to Syd Hills also not a bad effort to go from Sydney league to state league and make finals and also knock off Ainsle and Labrador while playing away and a emphatic win over Mt Gravatt

Agree about the Hills, reckon a Canberra club outside the top 5 had themselves penciled in that spot.

They have also turned their form around after looking as if they were running out of petrol tickets.

Great effort by Sydney Hills!

Just reading some of the previews for this weeks games on the NEAFL website and the predicted margins make me laugh sometimes.. Surely southport are more then a 6 goal better team then Syd uni? No disrespect to uni, but really? Same with swans reserves v Syd hills. Swans by 16 points? More like 160 points

Tigers Remain Top

Blustery, difficult conditions welcomed Queanbeyan and Eastlake players at Dairy Farmers Park on Saturday in a game that had major significance to both clubs. With the Sydney Swans breathing down the Tigers necks only a win would do if they wanted to remain in top spot and for Eastlake who had not won since round 15 a win was desperately needed if they wanted to remain in control for the hunt for the double chance.

The Tigers had won the 2 previous meetings against the Demons but the tricky conditions would make life difficult for both sides and it would be the team that had the cleaner skills who would more than likely prevail.

The opening term was difficult for both sides due to the windy conditions but it was Queanbeyan aided with the breeze who were cleaner with the ball, more direct and had targets up forward in Quade and Kavanagh looking dangerous with every forward entry. In contrast, Eastlake, while having plenty of the football, continually chipped the ball short, lacked penetration and while they would have been happy to kick 2 goals against the breeze they would have been concerned with the way they were bringing the ball into their forward line.

1/4 Time
Qbn 5-4-34
Eastlake 2-1-13

The second term for Eastlake would have been a very frustrating one. They had numerous opportunities to apply scoreboard pressure but continually bombed the ball into their forward line giving the forwards little chance. This made things very easy for the Tiger defense who were able to clean up the Demons entries and repel wave after wave of Eastlake attacks. 2 goals apiece were scored for the term and Eastlake would have been extremely disapointed to not make more inroads given the amount of forward 50 entries they had. The Tigers staff would have been annoyed also with the way the term went and must have been relieved the scoreboard still had Qbn holding a handy 16 point lead.

Half Time
Qbn 7-5-47
Eastlake 4-7-31

Eastlake made a real game of it kicking against the breeze and 15 minutes into the quarter the margin was still the same as at half time. But little things can turn a game of football and perhaps a kick for goal from Mardling from 25 metres out directly in front that hit the post did just that. If that had of gone through the Demons would have been 10 points behind, instead the resulting kick in went quickly into the Tiger forward line and a mark and goal from Mitch Daniher from 45 metres out on a sharp angle must have dented the spirit of the Demons while lifting those of the Tigers. From that point on the Tigers slammed on another 5 majors to take a commanding 48 point lead into the last term.

3/4 Time
Qbn 13-8-86
Eastlake 5-8-38

Full credit to Eastlake as they fought out the final term kicking 3 goals while holding the Tigers goalless, however that blistering 12 minute spell from Queanbeyan in the third term ended the game as a contest.

Final Scores
Qbn 13-11-89
Eastlake 8-12-60

In tough conditions to play in the Tigers again showed their finals credentials when challenged. They were by far the more skillfull of the 2 sides and played a more direct brand of football than their opponents. They rebounded quickly and gave their forwards the opportunity to contest for the football while Eastlake struggled to find a clear winner in their forward line. This was mainly due to poor execution going in and not being predictable which made it difficult for the forwards to read what was unfolding in front of them.

Best for the Tigers were Captain Ryan Quade who's marking was a feature of the day, his workrate was exceptional and he led from front in a true Captains game. Ben King was his usual busy self, working hard in and under packs getting many important clearances for his side. James Kavanagh was excellent up forward. He marked and kicked well in tricky conditions and finished with 6 goals for the game taking his tally to 75 for the season equal with Mitch Morton from the Sydney Swans. Jarrod Atkinson was very good offensive and defensively and the smell of finals is starting to bring the best of a player who will play a crucial role come September and Kane Stevens continued his break out season winning possessions all over the ground and making good use his disposals by hand and by foot.

With 1 round to go the Tigers are top of the NEAFL ladder and have won the Club Championship for the 7th time. A truly remarkable transition from 12 months ago. They are quicker, more skillfull, stronger at the football and share the workload extremely well which is most pleasing to their coaching staff and their supporters. They appear to be an even team who continually work for each other and have the belief that when challenged they can kick into another gear and kick clear.

Congratulations to all involved at Tigerland........but remember, you have only almost completed the first phase of the journey.

Top report ABH. I missed the last 3 qtrs due to a wedding and appreciate the report.Tigers going well.
Tried to tune into the radio but despite a great effort by the commentary team the technical black outs every few minutes followed by a shut down in the vital last qtr ruined it. Can we get a few more peddlers to give the station more grunt? Snake charmer music replaced you guys. From what other radio listeners have said this happens a bit. Think the commentary is great so a shame to see it wasted. Keep punching!!

That is an interesting story. Good to see he is making a stand against it. Reminds me of a similar event in the ACTAFL GF years ago with a belconnen player celebrating the premiership in hospital with a broken jaw after a behind the play incident aginst Queanbeyan. I think he did the same in taking the matter to the police.

TIGERS TAKE MINOR PREMIERSHIP
The Tigers continued their fairytale season to take the minor premiership by defeating the Tuggeranong Hawks by 72 points at Greenway Oval.

After securing the Club Championship last week, the Tigers not only claimed the Minor Premiership but also the Leagues Leading Goalkicker in James Kavanagh during the Tuggeranong clash.

After a stuttering start to the game in which a ferocious Hawk outfit served it up to the Tigers to take a 6 point lead into the first change. The cream rose to the top during a 10 blitz in the 2nd term to end the game as a contest with the Tigers running out eventual 19-14-128 to 8-8-56 winners.

1st Term
Tigers had all to play for after the Sydney Swans defeated the Brisbane Lions to reclaim top spot on the NEAFL ladder but it was the Hawks who were kicking with the breeze that came out the hungrier of the two sides. Their tackling was relentless and you could have been forgiven for thinking that they were the side playing for top spot. The Tigers appeared to forget about the things that had worked for them throughout the season and the Hawks took full advantage kicking 4 of the first 5 goals to open up and handy break midway through the 1st term. A couple of late goals to the Tigers brought the margin back to 6 points at quarter time but in truth the Hawks deserved to be further in front on balance of play.

Qbn 3-2-20
Tugg 4-2-26

2nd Term
There is no doubt the Tiger players were given a stern talking to by Coach Kade Klemke during the break and his charges responded like a top side. They dominated the 2nd term slamming on 10 goals to nil in an awesome display of football to which the Hawks simply had no answer to. The Tigers worked harder, their skills were better and they ran for each other which was in stark contrast to the previous quarter. During the goal rush Tiger "Legend Team" Member, James Kavanagh, notched up the single goal required to claim the Leagues Leading Goalkicker Award as he moved to 76 goals for the season, 1 ahead of nearest rival Mitch Morton from the Sydney Swans.

Qbn 13-5-83
Tugg 4-3-27

3rd Term
Full credit to the Hawks who could have been forgiven for raising the white flag, as they came out with renewed vigour after half time. They increased their workrate and were rewarded with 3 goals for the term. Unfortunately during the term a few minor injury concerns confronted the Tigers who took precautionary measures and wrapped a few of their players in "cotton wool" with the mind set now shifting to a 2nd Semi Final in a fortnights time. The Tigers who were down a few rotations kicked 4 against the breeze to extend their half time advantage to 65 points.

Qbn 17-9-111
Tugg 7-4-46

Final Term
With the Tigers down on rotations and the Hawks down on confidence you felt both sides were keen to hear the final siren as soon as possible. The Tigers won the quarter 2 goals to 1 but the term never really reached any great heights as one team had their thoughts on a well earned week off while the other was thinking about Mad Monday.

Qbn 19-14-128
Tugg 8-8-56

Goals Qbn - Campbell 6, Fruend 4, Stevens 2, K.Klemke, Quade, Kavanagh, Franchi, Griggs, Atkinson, Heaslip 1.
Goals Tuggeranong - Johnson, Lovett 2, Litchfield, B.Cleaver, Ghiradello, D.Cleaver 1.
Best Tuggeranong - Pocock, Dragicevic, Channon, Litchfield, Lawder

Best for the Tigers were Kaine Stevens who continued his breakout season amassing 34 possessions with his ability to find space when there appeared to be none a feature, Ryan Quade continued his recent run of great form with another Captains display. He is marking everything that comes at him at the moment and he would have been relieved that he received some decent football after having most passes around his ankles during a frustrating first term. Toby Conroy shook the shackles of late with a powerfull 38 possession game. He worked extremely hard, found space and delivered well to players down field. Ben King just continues to work selflessly for the cause. His in and under work has been a feature throughout 2012 and his run and carry was also on display. Daniel Campbell put his hand up for a 2nd Semi Final birth with 6 goals as he marked strongly and kicked accurately in tricky conditions. Brett Frued also continued his fine season with 4 goals to take his tally to 43 for the year. A terrific effort from the skillful small forward.

So the end of the home and away season finds the Queanbeyan Tigers Minor Premiers of the NEAFL. An amazing achievement considering where the club was at come the end of 2011. This side has showed true Tiger spirit to bounce back when many so called experts had written them off before a ball had been kicked in anger. Full credit must go to all out Tigerland for their effort to date however this is just the end of phase 1. The next phase will be more difficult and will require a greater sacrifice if they are to achieve the ultimate prize.

While the Minor Premiership is a tremendous achievement and deserves to be enjoyed in the short term, it will not be remembered by many in football circles in the years to come. The opportunity is there for this group to etch themselves into Tiger history and place themselves alongside some of the great teams of the past.

But for now they should be congratulated on the way they have conducted themselves on and off the field and enjoy what the next 4 weeks could bring them.

NEAFL Minor Round Summary

Queanbeyan Tigers - 15 wins, 3 losses
From 4 wins and 2nd last in 2011 to Minor Premiers in 2012.
A tremendous effort by all at Tigerland. They quickly turned things around and while many might have expected them to fall away, they never faultered getting stronger as the year went on. They share the workload very well and must be a nightmare for opposition coaches to plan against.

Sydney Swans - 14 wins, 4 losses
Still the side to beat. They are a professional outfit who play football for a living. A lot may depend on how far their first grade go into September however opposition teams have showed that they are beatable. They are just as vulnerable to persistent pressure as anyone and can be scored against continually. However, they have the ability and skill to put scoreboard pressure on in a hurry and you must play 4 quarters against them to be in with a shot.

Ainslie - 12 wins, 6 losses
A dangerous side when allowed to play the game on their terms. I mentioned midway through the season when they were losing games that they should not be taken lightly and they truly delivered in the 2nd half of the season. One to watch and they may not be at their best yet. Time will tell if they can reach their best before seasons end, but they will give it a shake.

Eastlake - 11 wins, 7 losses
Lost their way after a promising start to the season. Would have been relieved to get their first win since round 15 against the Hills Eagles today. May need to change their game plan if they are to push deep into September and will require some big efforts from a few players who have under performed in the big games this season.

Hills Eagles - 10 wins, 8 losses
Terrific achievement in their first season of NEAFL. Pretty sure they wanted to be competitive and would have been proud of what they have done this season. The wheels looked to fall off midway through the year but they picked themselves up and find themselves in a knock out final. Well done to all involved.

Belconnen - 6 wins, 11 losses, 1 draw
They must be disappointed with only 6 wins. A lot of talk about finals before the start of the season and while they finished the season with some good wins which will provide some optimism for 2013, in truth, when it mattered most they struggled to match it with the better sides of the competition. They have some much needed stability with the resigning of Lokan and it will be interesting to see how things develop during the off season player wise.

UWS Giants - 5 wins, 13 losses
Was always going to be tough season for what is essentially now the GWS Reserves side. There player depth was stretched and they struggled to come to terms with the physical nature of the NEAFL. Improvement will come fast and I expect them to be a big improver in 2013.

Sydney Uni - 3 wins, 15 losses
Massive step up in class and a huge learning curve for this club. They will benefit from the experience and now have a true understanding of where they are at and what is required to be competitive at this level.

Tuggeranong - 1 win, 16 losses, 1 draw
A season full of turmoil out Greenway and one that will want to be forgotten. They just did have have the resources to compete week in week out and while many will say they have a young list, the amount of games that some of these youngsters have play would indicate that they should have done better. From 5 wins in 2011 to 1 win and a draw in 2012 this would be bitterly disappointing to all involved.

Good report and year summary ABH. Know you will be tempted to go and try to help Man U out after their shocker overnight but stay here as this site is pretty dead without your input. Guess everyone is hibernating.
Someone may like to let me know if the home final approach works through all finals until the GF. Certainly operating this week but does it operate in the coming weeks? Will Tigers play at Mary Poppins Park therefore next week?

Ha, never heard of DFP called that but it has been a nightmare for most clubs this year.
No, the second semi wont be at DFP it will be at Manuka. I think its more that the final will be played in the teams area not at their actual home groud. Pretty sure that BISP is not the Swans home ground but it is in Sydney.

Thanks One 4. Thought that might be the go but someone at the game last week raised it so I was just checking.Good canteen at MDO though, for a footy fat attack.

Field umpire flattened off the ball in the first quarter. He was down for a couple of minutes and play was obviously stopped. Came off with an icepack to the side of the head.
The other umpires did nothing but wait for him to leave the field and it looked to me like no-one saw anything - I sure didn't.

Good to see the advance party from Queanbeyan in the stands...they would have been nervous at what they saw from the Swans. Not my favourite team but, wow, they will take some beating based on today's performance.
